Show Trivia
The series shows that Phil Coulson's personal car, Lola, can fly. In the S.H.I.E.L.D. comics, flying cars supplied by Stark Industries have been standard vehicles for the organization since 1967.Several episodes from the first season establish the origins of several long-running Marvel characters. For example, Franklin Hall introduced in episode three, "The Asset", who becomes the supervillain, Graviton, and Donnie Gill in episode twelve, "Seeds", who becomes Blizzard, one of the foes of Iron Man.The information given about San Juan, Puerto Rico, is accurate. Even the legend regarding "La Garita del Diablo" (The Devil's Sentry Box) is correct. Still today, no one dares to get inside of it, although it's closed to the public anyway. Also, the place marks one of the vertices of the Bermuda Triangle. At first, Chloe Bennet had thought that her character would become She-Hulk.Chloe Bennet fractured her elbow in two places while performing a one-take fight scene in season two. She had to film the rest of the season with a broken arm.The character of Scorch is actually a mutant in Marvel comics, but since Twentieth Century Fox, at the time, owned the rights to use the term mutants in Marvel properties, his status was alluded to slyly by using the slang terms used for mutants in the comics like "gifted" and "special".After the series wrapped, Chloe Bennet got a tattoo of a daisy on her arm to honor her character of Daisy Johnson. The relationship between Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) is based on the relationship between Series Creators, Executive Producers, and Writers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen.S.H.I.E.L.D. stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. The people who are ignored are the people I've been writing as my heroes from day one." The term "Zeppo" is a reference to Zeppo Marx, one of the Marx Brothers who frequently appeared in their movies. His role was to appear as a "normal" character to contrast their own ridiculous antics and as a foil for them to bounce jokes off of.The call-sign number for Agent Coulson's personal plane "The Bus" is "616", which in Marvel comic continuity is a recurring motif that is used to designate the universe which mainstream Marvel comic continuity takes place. While this is a continuation of Coulson's first appearance (film or otherwise), this is actually the second television series in which Clark Gregg played the character. He also voiced the character on Ultimate Spider-Man (2012).In season three, Powers Boothe reprised his role as Gideon Malick, a corrupt member of the World Security Council from The Avengers (2012).There is a signpost in "The Hub" base that points to the H.A.M.M.E.R. hangar, a nod to the Spider-Man antagonist, Norman Osborn, who, for a while, was in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D. and re-branded the agency as H.A.M.M.E.R.Season four introduced Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes), played by Gabriel Luna, who is the fifth Ghost Rider in the comics, and only had a twelve issue series in 2013.Deathlok, introduced in season one, is one of the lesser known heroes of Marvel, first appearing in 1974. His only other known appearance was in the "Black Panther" animated series.Throughout the series, certain episodes are tied into, or reference, the latest movie released under the "Marvel Cinematic Universe" banner. Unlike other series that might have a movie tie-in, viewing the movie is not necessary for the viewer to understand the events of the episode, but it does provide for a richer viewing experience. This was by design, by Marvel. On Monday, May 14, 2018, ABC announced they will renew the show for a sixth season consisting of thirteen episodes. The season five finale was written in a manner that would give a conclusion feeling of a series finale, but allowed for the possibility of a next season.Inhumans, introduced in season two, is one of the least known properties of Marvel Comics and have been around for sixty years (in 2015) without any live-action adaptation. This is the first property of Marvel Comics to be introduced in live-action television first, before movie adaptation."The Bus" is based on the U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III transport plane. The real C-17 does not have the rear wings and engines of The Bus, though. If The Bus was real, it would have some severe design flaws. The rear engines would suck in exhaust gases from the front engines, and the rear wings would not generate much lift due to being in the wake of the front wings. All the chronicoms in season 6 are named after Old Testament people (Enoch, Boaz, Isheah, Atara, Malachi..)Adrianne Palicki and Brian Patrick Wade auditioned for Gamora and Drax respectively, in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).Before season 7 started filming, Jeff Ward broke his toe and for three weeks whenever he was off camera, he had to wear running shoes with the authentic 1930's antique clothing.Adrian Pasdar (Glenn Talbot) is no stranger to working on superhero-based projects. He is also known for playing Nathan Petrelli on Heroes (2006), and has been the voice of Tony Stark (Iron Man) on many projects such as Avengers Assemble (2012), Ultimate Spider-Man (2012), Lego Marvel Super Heroes (2013), and Phineas and Ferb (2007) season four, episode twenty-two, "Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel".The Museum of Natural History in Muncie Indiana, featured in season 6 episode 1, is the same building as the Pawnee City Hall in the TV show Parks and Recreation. In Son of Origins, a book showcasing origin stories of various Marvel comic book features, Stan Lee admitted that the original Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. comic book feature was inspired by the popular television spy series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (1964). H.Y.D.R.A. was inspired by T.H.R.U.S.H. (itself inspired by S.P.E.C.T.R.E., of the James Bond movies) and in the second story, S.H.I.E.L.D. was given a New York City headquarters, with a secret entrance. In The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1964), agents entered U.N.C.L.E. headquarters through Delfloria's Tailor Shop. In the S.H.I.E.L.D. comics, the entrance to S.H.I.E.L.D. was through a barbershop, where the barber chair was lowered through the floor. The S.H.I.E.L.D. comics and appearances would lead to use of the agency in the Marvel movies and the launch of the television spy series, bringing the concept full circle. This show was supposed to set up a Ghost Rider TV series starring Gabriel Luna as Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider. The series was supposed to air on Hulu and was to be produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. Though he showed up in Captain Marvel (2019), that film was set in 1995, before any of the events of The Avengers. In the season 4 episode "Let Me Stand Next to Your Fire", JT James (aka. Hellfire), the explosive Inhuman drops references to the first-person shooter Overwatch with his lines, most notably fellow Australian explosives-obsessed Jamison Fawkes (aka. Junkrat). The lines include: "stop me if you've heard this one before", "this bomb's for you", "it's a perfect night for some mayhem" and "well that's a nice how-do-ya-do". The exception is Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), where the Avengers find out Strücker's hideout and experiments, which is directly tied to the events of the TV series. But no Phase Three film of the Infinity Saga has any relation whatsoever with the events of the TV series. The MCU canonicity of the series has been debated for years, with various statements by company executives and creatives contradicting each other. The Bus's official call sign is the CXD-23 Airborne Mobile Command Station.
