- Bobbi Morse is wearing a Star Wars T-shirt while informing her colleagues about the Attack on the United Nations. Both Marvel and Star Wars are Disney properties.

- A Crossfire-Maximum Paintball arcade game is present in the SHIELD base. This game was released by Team Play in 2005 and is considered hard to find by collectors.
- During their training session, Skye asks May if she wants her to go full "Mortal Kombat" on her. Ming-Na Wen actually played fighting game character Chun-Li in the live action movie Street Fighter (1994). The Street Fighter video game is similar to - and came out around the same time as - the original Mortal Kombat game.

- Skye says she has ended up on the "DL" and has to explain that this means "disabled list". At the time of the first broadcast, this term was used by Major League Baseball for players who were injured and temporarily removed from the roster. It was unique to MLB, in that all other sports leagues used the term "injured list", and MLB changed to using that term in 2019. To know this term and use the common shorthand abbreviation "DL" indicates that Skye is more than a casual fan of baseball in the US.
- "Love in the Time of Hydra" originally aired on ABC on March 24, 2015, and according to Nielsen Media Research, was watched by 4.29 million viewers.
- Kirk Acevedo plays Agent Calderon, who works for Robert Gonzalez, played by Edward James Olmos. Olmos played Lt. Castillo on Miami Vice (1984). In that series, the original villain was named Calderone, but that was before the arrival of Castillo.

Part 1 (2015), Ward uses the term "honey bunny," which is the name of Amanda Plummer's character. Ward and Agent 33 pull their guns at the same time and start yelling like the couple in Pulp Fiction. When they corner the doctor, he pulls out his wallet and offers it to them. In the film, Pumpkin and Honey Bunny go around collecting all the diner patrons' wallets, including Jules Winnfield's (Samuel L. Jackson's) "Bad Mother Fucker" billfold. In the MCU, Samuel L. Jackson plays Nick Fury, former director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
One Door Closes
S02E15 Episode aired Mar 31, 2015
- The safe-house Skye is held in was built by Bruce Banner. A hole can be seen punched in a wall. Steve Rogers also stayed there after being de-frosted. However, it is not the same cabin that Banner was seen in at the very end of The Incredible Hulk (2008) as at that time he was still on the run and not in a position to design protective walls with help from S.H.I.E.L.D.
- This episode contains several flashbacks to the day S.H.I.E.L.D. fell, making them take place during the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Turn, Turn, Turn (2014).
- One of the lockers in the locker room has the name Mimikakis written on tape on it. Lanie Mimikakis worked in the art department on the series.
- Lucy Lawless and Edward James Olmos previously appeared together as enemies and later as allies in Battlestar Galactica.
- This is the fourth episode in which Agent Weaver makes an appearance in the series. It is the second time in Season 2 of the show, her first time being in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Seeds (2014).
- "One Door Closes" originally aired on ABC on March 31, 2015, and according to Nielsen Media Research, was watched by 4.26 million viewers.
- Despite Bobbi telling the agents to only use icers when they land at the safe house, none of the weapons shown have the distinctive barrel that are used to identify the non-lethal ammunition that they contain. In addition, regular gun sound effects are heard when the weapons are fired instead of the distinctive "icer" sound effect. This indicates that Bobbi was the only one who believed that capture was the intent of the mission.
- In a flashback to the day S.H.I.E.L.D. fell, Hartley mentions that "Vic [is] going to hold the Hub." Viewers of the first season know that Victoria Hand secured the Hub with the capture of John Garrett and elimination of the Hydra agents.
Afterlife
S02E16 Episode aired Apr 7, 2015
- In Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: The Things We Bury (2014), Cal told Whitehall that he wanted to reunite with his family in the "Afterlife". This episode revealed that he was talking about the Inhuman's sanctuary in China and not the life after death, literally.

- Fury's toolbox has an outer layer of vibranium, the same material Captain America's shield is made of.
- The license plate on the jeep that Hunter and Coulson stole was from South Carolina. This was a nod from writer/producer Craig Titley to the state, where his best friend works as a professor at Lander University. Titley travels to South Carolina every year for the Lander University Film Festival where he acts as a judge and guest speaker.
- Before the siege on the cabin, Coulson pulls a deck of cards from an old Howlers kit. This is likely a reference to Robert 'Rebel' Ralston, one of Nick Fury's Howling Commandos in the comics, who never loses at poker.
- Coulson mentions he had Deathlok keep tabs on Doctor List in the last 6 months. This places that assignment in between episodes 3 and 4 of this season.

- "Afterlife" originally aired on ABC on April 7, 2015, and according to Nielsen Media Research, was watched by 4.24 million viewers.
- This episode features the return of Mike Peterson/Deathlok.
- Lincoln is introduced in this episode.
Melinda
S02E17 Episode aired Apr 14, 2015
- In the first flashback, which takes place around 2008, Agent May mentions that S.H.I.E.L.D. is putting every dime into the construction of the Triskelion, as seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014). However, at the beginning of Ant-Man (2015), the Triskelion was already under construction, and that sequence took place in 1989, so she was probably referring to the addition of the underground hangars and the three Helicarriers for Project Insight (also seen in The Winter Soldier).
- Skye's birthday is revealed to be July 2, 1988. At this, Skye realizes that she's 26, setting this episode in late 2014 or early 2015 (likely early 2015, given the airdate). Chloe Bennet was four days shy of 23 when the episode premiered.
- "Melinda" originally aired on ABC on April 14, 2015, and according to Nielsen Media Research, was watched by 4.04 million viewers.
- This episode reveals that Raina ( Ruth Negga ) has precognitive, clairvoyant dreams. This is fitting since she spent most of season one hoping to meet The Clairvoyant so she could find out what she would become after terrigenesis.
- Coulson is technically not in this episode until the very last scene. The rest of his appearances are only in flashbacks.
Frenemy of My Enemy
S02E18 Episode aired Apr 21, 2015
- This episode along with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: The Dirty Half Dozen (2015) takes place before the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).
- The title is a play on the phrase "The enemy of my enemy is my friend", meaning that people can set aside their differences and work together when they are fighting a common enemy. In this case, the "enemy" is HYDRA, and the "frenemy" is Ward, since he used to be HYDRA but is now at odds with them.
- "The Frenemy of My Enemy" originally aired on ABC on April 21, 2015, and according to Nielsen Media Research, was watched by 4.45 million viewers.

- Along with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Frenemy of My Enemy (2015), takes place before the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).

Their names are Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, known as Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch respectively.
- The scene where Skye takes out a room of Hydra agents was all done in one shot by Chloe Bennet with no stunt doubles. She fractured her elbow in two places during the take.
- It is mentioned that the "Theta Protocol" concerns The Avengers. In the opening scene of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Scars (2015), it is revealed that the Theta Protocol is actually the building of a new helicarrier to support the Avengers, which is eventually used in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).
- In the rescue mission, Coulson had the hidden mission of gathering Hydra intelligence. This mirrors the opening scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), where Black Widow was to gather intelligence while the rest of the team was rescuing hostages. The intelligence that Coulson gathers reveals the location of Loki's scepter in Sokovia, and lead directly into the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). Raina also has a vision concerning the events of the movie, including the scepter.

- The final exchange between Gonzalez and Jiaying illustrates two competing philosophies- government control for perceived safety as espoused by Gonzalez vs individual freedom from intrusive government as espoused by Jiaying. In the Marvel universe, a similar discussion was seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) when Captain America told Director Fury the helicarriers were like holding a gun at everyone on Earth and calling it protection and that it wasn't freedom, but instead fear. While he exists in a different universe, a similar scenario was seen near the end of Man of Steel (2013) when Superman destroyed a government surveillance drone.
- Alicia Vela-Bailey plays the Inhuman called Alisha. She has also served as Adrianne Palicki's stunt double since Palicki joined the cast.
- The post-it on Sam Koenig's mirror says: "CALL YOUR SISTER!!!"
- This episode takes place after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).

- Sam and Billy Koenig briefly reference Call of Duty at the beginning of the episode when they mention "spawn kills" and "Black Ops".
- Sam is seen sleeping in Star Wars sheets. Sam is played by Patton Oswalt, who is the narrator of The Goldbergs (2013), voicing the character of Adam, who sleeps in Star Wars sheets.
- "Scars" originally aired on ABC on May 5, 2015, and according to Nielsen Media Research, was watched by 4.45 million viewers.
