This is seemingly based on the famous photo of Evelyn McHale's 1947 suicide, known as "The Most Beautiful Suicide."The main character, Dex Parios, suffers from PTSD following her five combat tours in Afghanistan.Jake Johnson previously starred in New Girl (2011). His love interest on that series, Jess (Zooey Deschanel), hailed from Portland, Oregon.In the Season One episode, "All Quiet On the Dextern Front," Dex states in a flashback from her time in Afghanistan that she holds the rank of Chief Warrant Officer in the Marine Corps during an interrogation with a terrorist suspect.Cobie Smulders and Jake Johnson have previously co-starred alongside multiple well-known actors. Smulders appeared with Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016); Keegan-Michael Key in Friends from College (2017); and Chris Pratt in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), the latter also featuring Natalie Portman. Meanwhile, Johnson appeared with Portman in No Strings Attached (2011); Pratt in Jurassic World (2015); Key in Win It All (2017); and Cruise in The Mummy (2017).
