WandaVision

TV Mini-Series (2021)

Season 1

Table of Contents

Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience

S01E01 Episode aired 15 January 2021
  1. Paul Bettany was painted blue as opposed to his normal red because the blue worked better on the black and white filters used.
  2. Vision not knowing what the company actually does is a reference to the many undefined jobs sitcom (and, again, radio show) husbands had for decades.
  3. The interior set for the house is inspired by the set from The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961). Vision nearly tripping over the chair while carrying Wanda is an homage to the opening credits of that show where "Rob" trips over the ottoman.
  4. Not only was "the boss is coming to dinner" a standard plot in sitcoms until the 1960s, it was also a plot of comedy radio shows before television. The wife not knowing was almost always a part of the set-up as well.
  5. The suit and wedding dress worn by Vision and Wanda in the opening titles were specifically tailored for the series, with the dress created as an homage to Audrey Hepburn.
  6. The wine served at dinner is called "Maison du Mépris" which, translated from French to English, means "House of Contempt." There is also a large M on the neck of the wine bottle, which may refer to "House of M," a major Marvel Comics' story arc for Wanda, which influenced the development of WandaVision.
  7. Filmed at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in front of a live studio audience.
  8. This episode is an homage to the homey "American Dream" style sitcoms of the 1950s, including I Love Lucy (1951), I Married Joan (1952), and The Honeymooners (1955).
  9. Wanda offers Vision breakfast with a line nearly identical to one spoken by Amanda Plummer in "So I Married an Axe Murderer," referencing silver-dollar pancakes, crispy hash browns, bacon, freshly squeezed orange juice, and coffee. The line is similar enough to be an obscure homage.
  10. The Toast Mate 2000 is a GE Toaster (model 25T83) from the 1950s.
  11. This episode is described as being set "in the 50s," with a calendar on the wall giving the date of Tuesday August 1. August 1 was a Tuesday in the year 1950, but only that year of that decade. However, August 1 was a Tuesday in 1961, the year that The Dick Van Dyke Show debuted.
  12. The episode takes place on August 23 (23/08). In Marvel Comics' Avengers #238 (December 1983), Vision was revived after a period of hibernation.
  13. This episode actually WAS filmed before a live studio audience.
  14. Although this episode is set in the 1950s era, there is one interior decor in the Vision residence's living room that did not exist in that time period: a malm fireplace, which was created in the 1960s.
  15. The Stark toaster makes the same sound as when the Iron Man suit powers down.
  16. Shot entirely in black and white except for a small detail in the "commercial break." The light on the Toast Mate 2000 is blinking red.
  17. The hints of a traumatic reality trying to push through the sitcom veneer are there from the first scene, where Wanda accidentally beans Vision with a plate and quips about "My husband and his indestructible head." In Avengers: Infinity War (2018) she was forced to use her powers to destroy the Infinity Stone in Vision's forehead, killing him.
  18. The black and white sitcom "episode" ends with scrolling credits (as the camera pulls back from the vintage TV to show the real, modern world in color in around it). The sitcom credits list Abe Brown as director. There is another character in the MCU with this name, one of Peter Parker's classmates in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), portrayed by Abraham Attah.
  19. The "Sokovian greeting" Wanda gives to Mr. Hart, putting her hands in front of his eyes, is similar to the gesture she made to Tony Stark in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) to make him hallucinate. Wanda uses her abilities to create the sitcom reality herself.
  20. The Toast Mate 2000 that appears in the commercial is made by Stark Industries, which manufactured the bombs that killed Wanda's parents when she was a child. The second bomb, which did not explode, trapped her and her brother in the rubble. The toaster's countdown creates a similar tension. This trauma set her on a path to obtaining superpowers and holding Tony Stark personally responsible, as seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Don't Touch That Dial

S01E02 Episode aired 15 January 2021
  1. The stage names used by the Vision and Wanda in their magic show are "Illusion" and "Glamor." Illusion and Glamor were the stage names used by the stage magician couple Ilya and Glynis Zarkov, who were neighbors of Wanda and the Vision in the comic "The Vision and the Scarlet Witch."
  2. The animated title sequence contains references to Wanda and Vision's comic and movie history: The title sequence starts with six stars twinkling in a circle, referring to the Infinity Stones that gave Wanda and the Vision their powers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When the Vision gets ready for work, the helmet of the Grim Reaper (a comic-book enemy to the Vision and Scarlet Witch) can be spotted in the bedroom floor, alongside some bones. When Wanda is shopping, there is an advertisement for Bova Milk. In the comics, Bova was a sentient cow who raised Wanda and her brother Pietro in their childhood. Another advertisement is for Auntie A's Cat Litter. This refers to Agatha Harkness and her cat Ebony, who was an ally to Wanda in the comics; the title of Auntie Agatha comes from the comic "New Avengers 26" (January 2007). At Wanda and Vision's house there is a statuette of the Whizzer on a table. In the comics, the Whizzer was a super fast superhero thought to be Wanda's father in the comics for several years, and was killed off in "The Vision and the Scarlet Witch" comic.
  3. The house Wanda and Vision are in is the same house used for National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. The house next door was the Murtaugh house in Lethal Weapon. Both houses are on the Warner Bros Ranch, which is where the Bewitched house is also located. The opening and interior design for this episode are based on Bewitched. All exteriors for this episode were filmed at the Ranch.
  4. The interior set is designed similar to the house in Bewitched (1964).
  5. The Strucker watch is set at 2:42. The Avengers comic, Issue #242 (December 1983), had the Vision appear with a newly repaired body.
  6. Big Red gum, that "gums up" Vision in this episode, is another item in the series Incorporating the color red. The toy red helicopter; Dottie's red blood; and the red light on the Stark brand toaster from the first episode advertisement. Big Red gum is a bit of an anachronism as the product first appeared on the market in 1975 in the USA and later in other countries. If this pocket reality is based on Wanda's concept of an ideal life from watching TV show reruns in her youth, then Big Red gum might also be a fondly remembered USA product from her childhood.
  7. This episode is based on the sitcom Bewitched. The set of Wanda and Vision's home is nearly identical to the Steven's home from Bewitched, but it is mirrored with their staircase to the right rather than the left side like the Steven's, their living room to the left instead of the right.
  8. The toy helicopter that Wanda finds in a bush is consistent with the '50s and '60s as it resembles a Sikorsky H-19, which first entered military service in 1950 and became known for its use during the Korean War.
  9. This episode is set in the 1960s.
  10. Westview could be a reference to Kevin Feige's hometown of Westfield, New Jersey, which is similar to the type of suburban town depicted in this episode.
  11. During the Talent Show scene, where Wanda and Vision shows a trick with a box, the audience chants, "What's in the box?" several times. This could be an in-joke reference to the famous line "What's in the box?" during the climactic scene of Se7en (1995). That film starred Gwyneth Paltrow, who also appeared in the MCU several times as Virginia "Pepper" Potts.
  12. The helicopter found in the bushes is the color of Iron Man's armor. It features the sword inside a circle logo of the S.W.O.R.D. organization.
  13. The S.W.O.R.D. logo appears (reference to Agents of S.W.O.R.D.) twice in this episode, once in the colored helicopter toy that Wanda saw, and another on the back of the beekeeper's outfit who came out of the sewer.
  14. The talent show is being held "for the children," which becomes a repeated phrase, yet there is not a single child to be seen in all of Westview.
  15. The trophy Wanda and Vision receive for winning the inaugural comedy section of the talent competition is exactly the same as the trophy Scott Lang had received from his daughter titled 'World's Greatest Grandma' in Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018).
  16. Wanda turning her and Vision's two single beds into a double refers to the network practices and standards of the 1960s and earlier, where a married couple was not allowed to share the same bed.
  17. Among the nods to Bewitched (1964), e.g., the opening credits and discreetly using magic to save the day, there's also a subtle reference in the switch from black and white to color before the episode is over. Like many TV shows that started before the mid-60s, "Bewitched" started in black and white but ended in color.
  18. The two "commercials" appearing in this and the previous episode are for products made by Tony Stark and Baron von Strücker creators.
  19. The television ad displays a Strücker watch bearing the Hydra name and logo on its face. Baron von Strücker is behind Hydra and he experimented on Wanda and her brother.
  20. In the cabinet Wanda and Vision use for their magic trick, there is a shape identical to one of the Infinity Stones, likely the Mind Stone.
  21. The voice heard on the radio speaking to Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) is that of Randall Park, who played FBI agent Jimmy Woo in Ant Man and the Wasp and who apparently now works with S.W.O.R.D.
  22. Agnes has a pet rabbit named "Señor Scratch." In the comics, Agnes the character has a son named Nicholas Scratch.

Now in Color

S01E03 Episode aired 22 January 2021
  1. Wanda and Vision debate over what name to call their son: Wanda wants Tommy, while Vision wants Billy. In the comics, the couple had twins named Tommy and Billy, who went on to be the superheroes Speed and Wiccan (Tommy with super-speed, and Wiccan with magical powers).Wanda tries to end the debate with wanting a girl. This is a reference to Viv Vision, the Vision's daughter with a fellow android.
  2. The Hydra Soak commercial is reminiscent of the "Calgon, Take Me Away" bath powder commercials. Hydra is the name of the terrorist organization in the Marvel universe.
  3. The doll Vision uses to practice diaper changes is Kitty Carryall from The Brady Bunch.
  4. In the title sequence, the pictures are presented in hexagons. In Scarlet Witch's early comic years, her powers were stated to be "hex powers" that could cause random and unlikely events to take place. This enabled creative freedom to the writers, as it actually meant that her powers could be used for any purpose required by the plot.
  5. The HYDRA Soap commercial is very similar to the blue soap Coulson mentions in the Agents of SHIELD episode "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Identity and Change (2017)." HYDRA forces them to use in order to brainwash them in the Framework.
  6. The intro to this episode is heavily inspired by the intro of "The Brady Bunch (1969)," including the cheery tune, title font, and split screen.
  7. Exterior shots, such as when Vision speaks with the doctor and his neighbor for the first time, are filmed as if they were indoors on a closed set, similar in fashion to shows of the era like The Brady Bunch (1969), which is the primary influence of this episode. The matte background is clearly visible through the screen doors heading to the studio lit back yard.
  8. The house interior is modeled after the house in The Brady Bunch (1969), including an identical staircase and brick floor pattern.
  9. "Daydream Believer" by The Monkees is played at the end. Singer Davy Jones was Marcia Brady's favorite pop star in The Brady Bunch: Getting Davy Jones (1971).
  10. It is established that Phil and Dottie are a married couple. In the animated opening sequence of WandaVision: Don't Touch That Dial (2021), they were seen standing next to each other in front of a house. That sequence also featured Herb cutting his hedges and Agnes standing on the other side of them, as they do in this installment.
  11. The paint Wanda uses in the nursery are from a brand named "Simser," named after series storyboard artist Jeremy Simser.
  12. Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez wrote and performed the theme song "We Got Something Cooking." The duo previously wrote the Oscar and Grammy winning Disney song "Let It Go."
  13. The manner in which Wanda attempts to hide her visible pregnancy from Geraldine, with baggy clothes (the oversized coat) and by holding obstructive objects (the fruit bowl), may be a reference to the common practice in television, wherein a pregnant actress whose character is not pregnant hides visible signs of the pregnancy, using similar methods.
  14. Episode 3 marks the first mention of Wanda's twin brother Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver since his death at the hands of Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). It also marks a brief return of Wanda's Sokovian accent.
  15. Moving into the final scene, the video changes aspect ratio from 4:3 to what looks like 2.35:1.
  16. Geraldine wears a necklace that has a pendant. Wanda notices this as Geraldine mentions Ultron killing Pietro, Wanda's brother. The pendant is the logo for S.W.O.R.D., the Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Department.

We Interrupt This Program

S01E04 Episode aired 29 January 2021
  1. The first five minutes take place in the middle of Avengers: Endgame (2019). When Hulk snaps his fingers in that movie, restoring half the world's population, Monica Rambeau materializes in the hospital in the first scene of this episode. The rest of the episode takes place three weeks later.
  2. The barely intelligible words at the beginning of the episode while Monica is coming back from the blip are pieces of dialogue from Captain Marvel (2019), where Monica was just a child. It's like her mind is recomposing itself by experiencing again every memory in Monica's life.
  3. First episode to not feature a customized theme song intro, nor a fake commercial break.
  4. Kat Dennings reprises her role of Dr. Darcy Lewis from Thor (2011) and Thor: The Dark World (2013). Randall Park reprises his role of Agent Jimmy Woo from Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018).
  5. One of the local cops calls Agent Woo a "G-Man," slang for FBI Agent. In the Marvel comic books, Jimmy Woo was a member of the superhero team "G-Men," also known as "Department Zero," later renamed "Agents of Atlas."
  6. This episode displays the S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient Weapon Observation Response Division) Headquarters.
  7. The drone helicopter that Monica deploys just outside Westview is painted in Captain Marvel's signature blue, red, and yellow color scheme.
  8. The episode, which pauses Wanda and Vision's story to show the perspective from outside Westview, is aptly titled "We Interrupt This Program."
  9. In the opening, people reappearing resemble prisms and cubes forming. This visual comes from the "House of M" comic, where the Scarlet Witch altered reality.
  10. One of the books on Wanda's bookcase is about modern artist Marc Chagall. Chagall composed his images based on emotional and poetic associations, rather than on any rules of pictorial logic, the same way Wanda reshapes reality based on her emotions and views.
  11. There is of course no actual Westview in New Jersey, but there also is no New Jersey Route 2 as shown on the highway exit sign when Monica Rambeau is driving to Westview. New Jersey Route 2 did exist between 1927 and 1942, but then in 1942 it was re-numbered as Route 17.
  12. Chronologically speaking, the series takes place in 2023, three weeks after the blip was undone in Avengers: Endgame (2019). This places WandaVision between Endgame (2023) and Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019) (2024) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.
  13. Kevin Feige responded to a question regarding everyone reappearing from the original BLIP. For example; if people were mid-air during the BLIP, would they would just fall when they came back. Feige has since responded saying that Professor Hulk would account for this and make sure each person would return safely. This would account for someone rematerializing in a safe environment and not dropping from the sky or even exactly where someone is standing, sitting, etc. In the beginning of the episode, each person seems to be returning just out of everyone's way, more or less.
  14. The whiteboard Jimmy Woo writes on says the field around Westview has a five mile radius. He suggests "Skrulls" as a possible cause and asks "Audience?" in addition to "Commercials?" and "Are they aware?"
  15. Agent Jimmy Woo demonstrates "close-up magic" when producing his card for Captain Rambeau. He learned this after being mesmerized by Scott Lang doing the same thing in Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), as Lang had taught himself close-up magic while under FBI house arrest, supervised by Woo. Indeed, later in that film, Woo is interrupted while struggling to learn a similar card trick while watching a magic tutorial video on his computer; it would seem he ultimately succeeded.
  16. First reference of Maria and Monica Rambeau since 2019's Captain Marvel. This is set 28 years later as Monica is now with S.W.O.R.D., which her mother founded. There is also homage paid to Maria at the facility with her nickname "Photon" on a plaque.
  17. Darcy finds TV waves superimposed to cosmic microwave background radiation (CMBR): the radiations from the Big Bang still reverberating throughout the universe and creates TV static. It helps to ground the physics of what's happening into quasi-reality, as it's thought the Infinity Stones were created during the Big Bang and Wanda got her powers from one, it makes sense that they would have a similar signature.
  18. After the release of Captain Marvel (2019), it was speculated that the relationship between Maria Rambeau and Carol Danvers would be explained in depth in the sequel. But as Maria was killed off in this episode, it is now unknown how the relationship will be explored in Captain Marvel 2 (2022).

On a Very Special Episode...

S01E05 Episode aired 5 February 2021
  1. This episodes commercial is for Lagos brand paper towels. The city of Lagos, Nigeria is where Wanda accidentally blew up a building at the beginning of Captain America: Civil War (2016).
  2. Sparky the dog comes from the "Visions" comic that inspired the show. However, in the comics it was an android dog, while in this episode it is a normal dog.
  3. The sudden growth of the twin sons, Tommy and Billy, is a reference to how sitcoms often portrayed infants growing up at an unrealistic rate. A notable example would be from Growing Pains (1985), which featured an infant (Chrissy Seaver) who in the course of just two seasons was old enough to attend school.
  4. During the S.W.O.R.D. briefing, news footage (taken from previous MCU films) is attributed to WHiH World News, the fictional news network in the Marvel Cinematic Universe which has been used to promote some of the films in its own web series WHIH News Front (2015) and was previously featured in various TV series set in the MCU.
  5. At the beginning of the episode it's revealed Wanda was born in early 1989, Elizabeth Olsen who portrays her was also born that same year.
  6. Reference to Full House (1987) in the opening theme when the family is running towards the camera, and at the end of it where Wanda, Vision, and their sons Billy and Tommy sit to have lunch like it's a picnic on some grass. Elizabeth Olsen's sisters, Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen, starred in that show as Michelle Tanner.
  7. The theme song for this episode ("Making It Up As We Go Along") is a thematic, vocal, and instrumental homage to "Believe It Or Not," the theme song from "The Greatest American Hero," a 1981 comedy TV series about an ordinary man struggling to control superpowers he was unexpectedly granted by powerful extraterrestrials.
  8. Jimmy Woo states Wanda Maximoff violated Section 36-B of the Sokovia Accords when she resurrected Vision. The creation and activation of artificially intelligent androids being in violation of the Accords was first mentioned in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013) episode "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Ghost Rider: The Laws of Inferno Dynamics (2016)."
  9. The episode title "On A Very Special Episode" refers to specific 1980s sitcom episodes that dealt with controversial social issues like racism, sexism, abuse, teenage pregnancy, and death (some of which appear in this episode).
  10. Darcy Lewis refers to the anomaly as "the hex" after the hexagonal patterns that were noted in the previous episode. In the comics, Wanda's powers are often referred to as "hex bolts." She could also produce "hex spheres" and the town seems to be enveloped in a large one here.
  11. The episode repeatedly references the sitcom "Full House." Twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen starred in that series, and are the older sisters of Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda.
  12. Several of the newspaper articles detailing the Novi Grad Bombings feature real-life photographs of the Siege of Sarajevo, an almost-four-year siege that started the Bosnian War and claimed the lives of more than 13,000 civilians.
  13. Vision's computer at the office is a Commodore 64, the most popular computer used in the 1980s.
  14. The opening theme of the WandaVision 1980s version is very much like that of Family Ties, as is the set.
  15. The opening credits for the "episode" are based on the opening credits for Family Ties (1982), one of the most popular 80's sitcoms starring Michael J. Fox. This includes the painting of the characters, while the montage of baby photos is a reference to another popular 80's sitcom, Growing Pains (1985).
  16. All exteriors are filmed at the Warner Bros Ranch. Some of the familiar homes from the Blondie Street set are the Griswolds (opening), the Hecks (after the commercial), and Bewitched (where the dog is found). The gazebo is from the Midwest set.
  17. The building address of Computational Services, Inc is 103. Avengers issue 103 dealt with conspiracy theories behind the kidnapping of Scarlet Witch and unexplained absence of her brother, Quicksilver.
  18. Evan Peters' return as Quicksilver in this episode is also a reference to his first appearance in the film X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), which took place in the late 1970s. Also, this episode is influenced by the late 1970s to the early 1980s sitcom tropes.
  19. Evan Peters appears as Pietro after playing Quicksilver in the 20th Century Fox's (now Studios) X-Men film series. Both Marvel Studios and 20th Century made an agreement to use both Pietro and Wanda since both were X-Men and Avengers, but condition that they could not make reference to the other studio's properties. Fox films could not mention them as members of the Avengers, while the Marvel films could not mention them as mutants or children of Magneto. Since Disney acquired 20th Century in 2019, this agreement no longer stands.
  20. First official crossover between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Fox owned properties with the appearance of Pietro Maximoff, played by Evan Peters.
  21. The Vision's remains being dismantled in a lab, and later rescued by Wanda, are taken from the "Vision Quest" arc in the Marvel comics. The reference suggests how Vision could be fully restored to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: in that arc, Vision is rebuilt and reactivated, but in a pure white form with his emotions purged, including his feelings for Wanda, for some time until he was later completely restored.
  22. The appearance of Pietro Maximoff at the end is a dig at multiple established tropes: Pietro being "recast" (Evan Peters instead of Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is a reference to several sitcoms of the time in which characters were re-cast, such as the character of Becky from the sitcom Roseanne (1988). Pietro's appearance following the rolling of the TV show credits is a reference to Marvel films including a bonus post-credit scene.
  23. This episode marks the first appearance of Wanda's battle outfit and Wanda speaking in her Sokovian accent since Avengers: Endgame (2019).
  24. Wanda and Vision's son Billy says "Sit, Sparky, sit. Good dog" to their dog Sparky. This is a reference to the line "Sit, Ubu, sit. Good dog" used in the closing tag for Ubu Productions, which produced Family Ties, a show this episode parodies.
  25. The source of the video footage of Wanda recovering Vision's body is Satellite 348. Avengers issue #348 in part deals with a restored Vision trying to re-establish his former complete identity.

All-New Halloween Spooktacular!

S01E06 Episode aired 12 February 2021
  1. While filming Age of Ultron, Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda) began to refer to the red magic that comes out of her character's hands as "wiggly whoos." In this episode, Pietro calls them by this name.
  2. Tommy responds to Quicksilver's suggestion of creating mischief on Halloween by saying "kick-ass," which Wanda then repeats. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Evan Peters, who have both played Quicksilver in Marvel movies, also co-starred in the 2010 superhero movie 'Kick-Ass.'
  3. Vision speaking Spanish, and Wanda being turned on by it, pays homage to the sitcom The Addams Family (1964) when Morticia would do the same thing in French and arouse her husband, Gomez.
  4. The first episode in the show not to have a laugh track.
  5. This episode's title sequence and storyline mimics that of 2000s sitcom "Malcolm In The Middle." This reveals that stylistically, WandaVision is getting closer to the modern era of television.
  6. Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) warns her boys not to cross Ellis Avenue. In the MCU, President Ellis (played by William Sadler) was in office when the Sokovia Accords were signed, setting restrictive boundaries on superpowered people like the Avengers.
  7. Billy's Halloween costume uses the same colours as his comic book counterpart, Wiccan. It also is evocative of Doctor Strange's classic comic book outfit, who is also a user of magic.
  8. When Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) blasts Pietro (Evan Peters) through the Halloween decorations, the name on one of the fake headstones is Janell Sammelman. She's the first assistant director for this episode.
  9. The Halloween costumes Billy and Tommy wear are reminiscent of their comic book costumes.
  10. Pietro and the twins each drink from a can of Kane Cola, named after series production manager Mary Kane.
  11. The episode reveals the twins' future superhero powers, Billy (Wiccan) grows to have powers similar to his mom Wanda and Tommy (Speed) has similar powers to his Uncle Pietro. They are part of the Young Avengers superhero team.
  12. Late in the episode when Wanda is concerned about Vision, Pietro says, "It's not like your dead husband can die twice!" This is exactly what happened in Avengers: Infinity War.
  13. The Coronet Theatre in Westview is showing The Incredibles (2004) and The Parent Trap (1998). Both are Disney properties, with plots which mirror aspects of the WandaVision experience, i.e. a "secret" superhero family with a child speedster and twins.
  14. Vision, Wanda, and Pietro all wear their classic comic books costumes.
  15. This is the first time that there were no "show-within-a-show" credits featured as part of the sitcom segment.
  16. Pietro Maximoff's Halloween costume resembles the character's looks in the original Marvel comic books.

Breaking the Fourth Wall

S01E07 Episode aired 19 February 2021
  1. This episode is an homage to the mockumentary sitcoms The Office (2005), Modern Family (2009), and Arrested Development (2003).
  2. The radio playing in the background in Wanda's kitchen is station W.N.D.A.
  3. The strongman who confronts Vision and Darcy at the circus (formerly the S.W.O.R.D. base) is agent Monti who did not help Darcy with her equipment or give her any coffee in WandaVision: We Interrupt This Program (2021).
  4. The agents of S.W.O.R.D. that have been changed into circus performers have a new logo on their car doors and the acronym has been changed to "Spectacular World Of Rapturous Diversions."
  5. The opening credits music sounds a lot like The Office (2005) but the repeating words look like the intro of Happy Endings (2011).
  6. Wanda's bedsheet features a hexagonal pattern on it.
  7. Despite prominent billing, Debra Jo Rupp only appears for a brief second as the camera pans across her, towards the end of the episode.
  8. The 'registration number' on the WANDA license plate, 122822, is Stan Lee's birthday. December 28, 1922. Stan Lee co-created many of the characters being used in the MCU and related shows.
  9. When Wanda says "zero, zip, zilch, nada, niente" this is a direct quote of Kevin Kline's character Otto from A Fish Called Wanda (1988).
  10. This is the first episode of the show to contain a mid-credits scene
  11. First episode in the series in which Wanda and Vision share no scenes.
  12. The soldier fixing Monica Rambeau's space helmet is Tony Almaraz, the specialty costumer of the show.
  13. Darcy drives a vehicle with a hula girl on its dashboard, just like Skye used to do on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013).
  14. Wanda has cans of Kane Cola in her fridge, named after series production manager Mary Kane.
  15. The cinematography, music, and editing style is heavily based on Modern Family.
  16. The children's puppet show that Wanda sees on Agnes' TV is the live action/puppet/musical/educational children's show Yo Gabba Gabba! (2007).
  17. The last episode of the show to have a sitcom trope.
  18. The interviewer who speaks to Wanda is voiced by a pitch-shifted Kathryn Hahn.
  19. The Nexus pharmaceutical ad ties to the Marvel comics. Nexus beings are individual entities unique to all multiverse and can affect probability and thus the future, thereby altering the flow of the Universal Time Stream. Wanda Maximoff is a nexus being in the comics.
  20. Dialogue from Captain Marvel (2019) is used during the scene where Monica Rambeau is breaking through the Hex. The dialogue used features lines spoken by Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch), and a young Monica Rambeau (Akira Akbar).
  21. Kathryn Hahn sings the "Agatha All Along" theme.
  22. Agnes's house is the same as Samantha Stephens' in Bewitched (1964) at Warner Bros. Ranch, a subtle nod to Agnes's true self. Also, the strange mole Agnes asks to have checked could be a reference to a witch's mark. The name Agnes is a combination of the first and last parts of her actual name, Agatha Harkness, but as she lives in the house from Bewitched, it could also be a subtle nod to Agnes Morehead, who played Samantha's mother Endora. Additionally, just as Agatha has been interfering in things, Endora often used her magic to interfere in Samantha and Darrin's life.
  23. First episode in the series where Wanda and Vision share no scenes or dialogue with each other. Even the opening credits showcase title cards with just Wanda's name on them. It isn't until the final title card where Wanda and Vision's name appear together in order to display the series name "WandaVision."
  24. The title of this episode, "Breaking the Fourth Wall," references how the characters are regularly speaking directly to the camera and how Monica Rambeau attempts to break through the wall of the hex.
  25. The theme song style and screen title graphics of "Agatha All Along" is a nod to "The Munsters."
  26. Agnes/Agatha's evil cackle about Sparky at the end of the "Agatha All Along" sequence is a nod to the Wicked Witch of the West's line, "And your little dog, too!" from The Wizard of Oz (1939)
  27. In the comics Agatha Harkness is a powerful witch, portrayed as a sinister heroine and teacher of Wanda Maximoff, as well as being the mother of Nicholas Scratch. Agatha has been depicted as one of the original witches from the Salem witch trials. She survived and later became a significant figure in Marvel continuity, protecting Franklin Richards as his nanny and later mentoring Wanda Maximoff in real magic.
  28. The song featured at the end of the episode is literally titled "It Was ______ All Along." The blank space is part of the title.
  29. Agatha Harkness in the Marvel Comics was a mentor for Wanda Maximoff in the training of her mutant powers. Agatha was also a nanny for The Fantastic Four family.
  30. Agnes has a rabbit named Senor Scratchy. This appears to be a reference to Nicolas Scratch, the son of witch Agatha Harkness from the comics.
  31. Aftter going through the barrier a third time. Monica becomes Photon, her comic book hero alias.
  32. Agatha Harkness' pseudonym Agnes is a portmanteau. 'Ag' is taken from 'Agatha' and 'Nes' is an excerpt of 'Harkness'.
  33. Agatha's house looks like Samantha Stephen's house from Bewitched, further hinting to her true nature.

Previously On

S01E08 Episode aired 26 February 2021
  1. Wanda's Favorite episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961) S2E21 "It May Look Like a Walnut" in the episode Robert Petrie is having a nightmare and wants to wake up in the episode.
  2. In keeping with the theme, the title uses a term frequently used in tv series and it actually deals with the incidents that happened before WandaVision.
  3. When Vision phases through the wall into Wanda's room, this is apparently the first time he has done this. We see later on in Captain America: Civil War (2016), that he has done this before when Wanda says "Vis! We talked about this".
  4. The second episode since Episode 4: "We Interrupt This Program" not to have a traditional sitcom trope.
  5. Wanda watches Malcolm in the Middle (2000) in a flashback. The sitcom also had a story about mischievous boys just like Wanda's two children.
  6. In episode 6: "All New Halloween Spooktacular!", Billy and Tommy accidentally run into Agnes' jeans which read 'Naughty' in the title sequence. Agnes is now revealed to be Agatha Harkness, the antagonist of the show.
  7. Agatha's mother Evanora at the coven resembles Pietro (as in the X-Men).
  8. Toward the end, Wanda finds herself on the sitcom set while Agnes begins slow-clapping from the theater seats. Then Agnes cries out "Bravo!" Many fine arts purists insist that "bravo," being an Italian word with a masculine ending, should only be said to a male performer, while female performers should be lauded with "Brava!" which is the feminine form. They also prescribe "bravi" for multiple male performers and "brave" for multiple female performers. Some opera etiquette guides support this rule. Other people, however, regard "bravo" as an English word borrowed from Italian, not subject to Italian rules of inflection, and therefore proper in all instances. But the general consensus among those "in the know" favors the purists' position.
  9. This is the first time in the MCU that Wanda is referred to by her comic book name "The Scarlet Witch".
  10. In the flashback to the Hydra compound, Wanda is watching The Brady Bunch: Kitty Karry-All Is Missing (1969), where a doll goes missing. That doll actually appears in WandaVision: Now in Color (2021), where Vision is using it to practice putting diapers on children.
  11. It is revealed in this episode that the Maximoff family was watching sitcoms when the bomb attacked their home. This is contradictory with Pietro's (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) reminiscence in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), where he says to Ultron that their family was having dinner. Their parents went to check if there were any survivors in the debris, but were killed in another bomb attack. But in this episode, they presumably died instantly after the first strike.
  12. The Vision is revived with an all-white color. This is similar to what happened to him in the comics, specifically the "Vision Quest" arc of West Coast Avengers #42-45.
  13. The flashback to Sokovia reveals that the blinking red light and beeping tone on the toaster in the WandaVision: Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience (2021) commercial is a callback to the Stark Industries rocket that killed Wanda's parents.
  14. It is implied that Wanda was a witch her whole life as Agatha states that young Wanda used a probability hex to see if the bomb would go off. Agatha also called young Wanda "baby witch" and states that the infinity stone "amplified what, otherwise, would've died on the vine" (her powers possibly fading away had she not used them). This gives more details as to Wanda's origin story told in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where it is explained that Pietro and Wanda got their powers from experiments with the Mind Stone. Now, it is revealed that the Stone awakened and boosted Wanda's natural abilities, and that Pietro's speed was possibly something he had already possessed, too.
  15. Evanora Harkness bears the comic hairstyle of her daughter Agatha.
  16. It is revealed that Wanda did not steal Vision's body as Hayward previously claimed in episode 5. Instead, Wanda recreated Vision with her powers to live inside Westview. This explains why Vision cannot leave Westview and why he doesn't remember his life before it as he is not only dead, but this Vision does not exist outside of Westview. This also explains why the Mind Stone didn't disappear when he attempted to leave Westview back in episode 6.
  17. The classic Avengers theme can be heard playing in the background as Wanda and Agatha enter Wanda's room at the Avengers compound.
  18. This signifies another merging of the Marvel and Fox cinematic universes. Due to the original agreement MCU characters, such as "the twins", had to be created and could not be born with super powers. The combination of the universes now allows Wanda to be a mutant, and to be called The Scarlet Witch.
  19. Second episode with a mid-credits scene.
  20. Different child actors are used to play Wanda and Pietro in this episode than in the flashback scene in episode 6. This implies that fake Pietro (or "Fietro") did, in fact, make up the story about Wanda and Pietro's childhood Halloween. This also explain why Wanda doesn't remember it happening as it never did.
  21. When Wanda & Agatha go through each memory, they take place throughout various points in the MCU timeline. The first memory with young Wanda & Pietro is set before the events of Iron Man (2008) as Stark Industries is still making weapons for the military. The second memory where Wanda is being experimented on with the Mind Stone is set before Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), as in the mid-credits scene in that film, she already has her abilities. The third memory take place after Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) as she & Vision are beginning to become closer & Vision enters her room through the wall for the first time. The final memory takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019) in the year 2023, as Wanda goes to the S.W.O.R.D. Headquarters to retrieve Vision & bury him.
  22. At the end of the episode when Wanda runs into the street to confront Agatha, the house directly behind her is the Heck's home from "The Middle".
  23. The second episode to start with a flashback sequence. The first being in Episode 4 "We Interrupt This Program".
  24. This is the first episode to not feature the "Please Stand By" screen at the start of the credits.
  25. It is revealed that Wanda was obsessed with sitcoms all along. However, this was never hinted in the previous MCU films.
  26. Agatha has dubbed the fake Pietro as "Fietro."
  27. The story of young Pietro & Wanda is a visible representation of when they described their history to Ultron in Avengers Age of Ultron

The Series Finale

S01E09 Episode aired 5 March 2021
  1. The movie showing at the modern-day Westview Theater is 'Tannhauser Gate'. Tannhauser Gate is mentioned by replica Roy Batty in his 'Tears in the Rain' monologue in the movie 'Blade Runner'.
  2. The logo on the back of the delivery truck is "Presto". In the comics, Prestor John is a Sokovian crusader teleported from the 15th century to the 21st.
  3. After Wanda launches the car at Agnes/Agatha, the shot of Agatha's shoes sticking out from beneath the car is an homage to the scene in Wizard of Oz where Dorothy discovers her house has crushed the Wicked Witch of the East.
  4. After featuring a nod to Wanda's classic costume from the comic earlier in the series, this episode introduces a contemporized version of that ensemble in the final scenes.
  5. Second episode to not feature the "Please Stand By" screen. This is also the longest episode in the series and only episode to have a mid-credit and end-credit scene. And the only episode to have multiple end-credit scenes.
  6. First appearance of Wanda Maximoff wearing the MCU Scarlet Witch costume.
