Season 1

Our Cup Runneth Over

1. Eugene Levy (Johnny) works on the show with his real-life son and daughter. Dan Levy plays David, Johnny's son, and Sarah Levy plays Twyla, a waitress at the town diner.
2. Both Eugene Levy (Johnny Rose) and Catherine O'Hara (Moira Rose) were members of the Second City Comedy Troupe in Toronto and were cast on SCTV (1976), Second City Television. Levy was always insisting on never exposing his children, Dan Levy and Sarah Levy, to life in Hollywood, and that they would be raised as "normally" as possible.
3. In the show's unaired pilot, the role of Alexis Rose was originally played by Abby Elliott, daughter of comedian Chris Elliott, who plays Roland Schitt. Unfortunately, she was unavailable when the show was picked up for production, so the role went to Annie Murphy.

5. Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara previously starred as a couple of porcupines in the animated movie Over the Hedge (2006) and as husband and wife in Best in Show (2000). They also play singing partners with a rich history in the movie A Mighty Wind (2003).
6. The final scene is a direct homage to The Waltons (which aired 1972 - 1981) sign-off, famous for a shot outside the Walton home as the family members say goodnight to each other. Another parallel between the two shows: The Waltons followed a family during the 1930s depression and through WWII, following the family as the kids grow up and mature into responsible adults. On Schitt's Creek, both Alexis and David grow up and embrace new challenges and opportunities in life during their own financial hard times.
7. Catherine O'Hara's character "Moira Rose" frequently wears black and white stripes as a nod to her role as Delia Deetz in "Beetlejuice".
8. The fictional town of Schitt's Creek is located at Pinewood Studios, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
9. The Rose Mansion in the opening scenes is located in Beverly Hills. The 17,000-square-foot house was owned by Lisa Vanderpump, British restauranteur and actress, known from The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills and Dancing With The Stars.

The Drip

1. Eugene Levy (Johnny Rose) has an obsession about his hair and no one may touch it, because of this, his son, Dan Levy (David Rose) wrote the scene where Johnny's hair is drenched from "brown sewage water" being dripped from above.
2. Chris Elliott, who also starred in Scary Movie 2 (2001), had a scene where his character also stuck his hand in the food for the guest and fondled it.
3. Jennifer Robertson (Jocelyn) and Chris Elliott (Roland), who play wife and husband, are both children of members of a comedy duo: Double Exposure and Bob & Ray, respectively.
4. Both Catherine O'Hara (Moira Rose) and Tim Rozon (Mutt Schitt) have starred in projects about Wyatt Earp: Catherine O'Hara starred in the movie Wyatt Earp (1994), playing the character of Allie Earp; Tim Rozon starred in the TV show Wynonna Earp (2016), playing the character of Doc Holliday.

Bad Parents

1. Alexis' middle name is Claire (Ted proposes to her using her full name in S1 Ep13).
2. Mutt is revealed to be Jocelyn's son. The real age gap between actors Jennifer Robertson and Tim Rozon is less than five years.

The Cabin

1. David is reading "A Rare Sophistication", a book Dan Levy created/made up. It describes him perfectly, is overly pretentious with minimalist type in greyscale, and he doesn't finish the book in the episode!
2. Schitt asks Johnny Rose if his suitcase is a tickle trunk. Possibly a reference to one of Canada's favorite children's shows Mr. Dressup. He had a large trunk named the "Tickle Trunk".

1. When the handyman, Grant, refere to needing the "right marette" this should have been a give away that the the show is set in Canada. In the USA marettes are called wire nuts.
