TV Series (2013– )

Season 6

Table of Contents

Honeymoon

S06E01 Episode aired 10 January 2019
  1. Fox did not renew Brooklyn Nine-Nine for a 6th season but after the huge uproar on social media, NBC commissioned a new season just one day after the show had been cancelled.
  2. Starting this season (coinciding with the move from Fox to NBC), Brooklyn Nine-Nine starts using stronger language in certain circumstances, in which the offensive language is bleeped out for comic effect. The first instance takes place here.
  3. Between Amy, Jake, and Holt, the word "hoot" (or a version of it, i.e. hoots, hootless, etc.) is uttered 15 times.
  4. When Jake is trying to get Holt to leave the room he says "thank you for teaching me the importance of a tie in the workplace", which was a huge part of the plot in the pilot episode.
  5. In a frantic attempt to unlock Holt's computer, Terry destroys it, then unsuccessfully attempts to put it back together. In real life, Terry Crews and his son attempted to assemble a computer from scratch with no prior know-how, as a father-son bonding experience. In Crews' own words: "It was the best time. Let me tell you, we got so close!"

Hitchcock & Scully

S06E02 Episode aired 17 January 2019
  1. Begins with a flashback to 1986, and the overall 80s noir-style of the scene, including the sultry jazz saxophone underscoring, is highly reminiscent of the Lethal Weapon (1987) franchise.
  2. When Jake accuses Hitchcock and Scully, they respond with the phrases "witch hunt" "fake news" and "sad!" which Jake sarcastically describes as "the language of the innocent." All three phrases have been used by Donald Trump in response to allegations of wrongdoings.

The Tattler

S06E03 Episode aired 24 January 2019

    Four Movements

    S06E04 Episode aired 31 January 2019
    1. In Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Halloween III (2015), a panicking Gina shouted her desire for someone to make her tweets into a book. Amy presents her with that very book.
    2. Mario Lopez guest stars. In season one, Gina mentions that she bought a lock of Lopez's hair at auction. He calls Jake "preppie," which was his go-to nickname for classmate, Zach Morris, when he played A.C. Slater on Saved by the Bell (1989).
    3. Second time Hitchcock mentions his favorite adult film actor Leroy Pipe. He first inappropriately mentioned the name in Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The Negotiation (2018).

    A Tale of Two Bandits

    S06E05 Episode aired 7 February 2019
    1. The slow motion "cop walk" at the end of the opening credits had been altered following the departure of Chelsea Peretti. Instead of completely re-filming the shot without her, the original shot is used with Peretti digitally removed. Joe Lo Truglio, who is originally on her left at the end of the row, has been digitally moved over into her place next to Andre Braugher. Additionally, Dirk Blocker and Joel McKinnon Miller have now been officially credited as series regulars.
    2. When Jake and Doug are told they look like Milli Vanilli, Jake "calls" Vanilli, saying "he's the best one," to which Doug replies: "You know it's true." German pop duo Milli Vanilli's biggest hit was called "Girl, You Know It's True."

    The Crime Scene

    S06E06 Episode aired 14 February 2019
    1. Franco McCoy (Michael Mosley) is a walking parody of all of the shows in the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2000) universe; most notable in his arsenal is a hamfisted use of overdramatic, punny wordplay and exaggerated sunglasses choreography, the infamous trademark of actor David Caruso as Horatio Caine on CSI: Miami (2002).
    2. Jake does his best David Caruso impression, taking off his sunglasses while speaking and then putting them back on afterwards. He even does the signature screaming, in an imitation of the opening of almost every CSI: Miami (2002). The scream comes from The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again," which serves as the show's theme song.
    3. Michael Mosley (Franco McCoy) previously starred on Sirens (2014) as a wisecracking Chicago EMT whose girlfriend/fiancée is a cop and whose best friend/partner is a gay black man with a deep, booming voice. Jake Peralta is a wisecracking NYC police detective whose girlfriend/wife is a cop and whose boss/mentor is a gay black man with a deep, booming voice.
    4. Rosa sports 13 different hairstyles.
    5. Holt mentions the two best detectives he's ever worked with, Montez and Dillman. Dillman is later (Season 7 Episode 9) introduced in an episode about him. Dillman is portrayed by J. K. Simmons in said episode.

        S06E12 Episode aired 11 April 2019
        1. When Holt and Kevin tell Jake their debate moderator license numbers, they use the NATO phonetic alphabet. The NYPD actually uses Police Phonetic Alphabet.

        The Bimbo

        S06E13 Episode aired 18 April 2019
        1. The writing on Kevin's blackboard is in modern Greek and they contain quotes from mythological persons. The one behind Peralta on the left of the screen reads "Nothing forces us to know that which we do not want to know." said by Clytaemnestra, and the ones behind Kevin on the right of the screen read "Not one day of anarchy, or one lifetime of enslavement to tyrants no, do not worship any of them." said by the Furies, "Enforce balance to everything, for everything, and god will give you strength." said by Athena. Surprisingly enough, there is no single grammatical or spelling error, and the writing makes sense - even though in American shows foreign languages are often misused or don't even make sense at all, and they only serve a decorative purpose if written.

        Ticking Clocks

        S06E14 Episode aired 25 April 2019
        1. After Fox cancelled the series, Sean Astin (Knox) was one of many high-profile people who started the Twitter campaign "Defenders of the 99" to get the show renewed.
        2. The episode begins with Scully and Hitchcock setting the microwave timer to twenty-one minutes and thirty seconds. This is the approximate length of a half-hour television show (minus commercials).
        3. Charles wonders if the hacker is disguised as a rock. Sean Astin, who plays the hacker, used an elvish cloak to disguise himself as a rock in one of the 'Lord of the Rings' movies.

        Return of the King

        S06E15 Episode aired 2 May 2019
        1. Boyle mentions that his cousin Susan didn't know she could sing until her 40s. This hints that his cousin is Susan Boyle who rose to fame as a runner up of Britain's Got Talent (2007) in 2008 when she was 48.
        2. Directorial debut of Melissa Fumero (Amy Santiago).
        3. The lowest rated episode of the series to date.
        4. The exterior of Gina's apartment was shot in Dublin, Ireland. The red light stands from the Bord Gais Energy Theatre are visible.
        5. The episode title refers to The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (2003). The previous episode featured Sam Astin, who plays Samwise Gamgee in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

        Cinco de Mayo

        S06E16 Episode aired 9 May 2019
        1. Winners of the Halloween Heist/Cinco De Mayo Heists are now as such; Jake Peralta - 1, Capt. Raymond Holt - 1, Amy Santiago - 1, Gina Linetti - 1, Terry Jeffords - 1. The 5th heist didn't officially have a winner. Jake could claim that he won, because everything went according to his plan, Amy could argue that she was holding the fake cummerbund, Holt found the real cummerbund but after midnight and there's no way to prove that Bill had the cummerbund at midnight.

        Sicko

          1. One of very few instances in which the cold opening relates to the larger plot.
          2. The two detectives The Vulture (Dean Winters) assigns to the missing persons case are named Kimble and Gerard. These are the names of the lead characters in the movie "The Fugitive", as well as the two television series of the same name.
          3. The Vulture (Dean Winters) regards Jake's pager idea with disdain. In 30 Rock (2006), he played a pager salesman.
          4. All the titles of the season finales follow the same format. A 3-word title with the word "and" in the middle. For example "Crime and Punishment", "Greg and Larry", "Jake and Amy" etc. This season 6 finale is the first to not have a title format like the previous 5, being titled "Suicide Squad".
          5. When Wuntch meets with Commissioner Kelly, she initially puts her hand on the side of Kelly's arm, while she watches Terry and Rosa, Wuntch's hand is seen on top of Kelly's shoulder. In the next scene, Wuntch's hand is again at the side of Kelly's arm.
