New Captain
S03E01 Episode aired 27 September 2015
- An earlier episode established that Amy was a certain way depending on how many drinks she's had. "Four drink Amy" was considered a pervert. On her date with Jake he says "Could you please bring us four Kamikaze shots" and Amy says "And four for me as well" and it then cuts to them in bed post sex.
- The first official "title of 'our' sex tape!" after Jake initially says "Hope it wasn't a mistake, title of your sex tape," immediately after Jake & Amy have sex at the end of their first date which earlier they agreed not to do right away. Jake had previously had a Freudian slip of saying "our" instead of "your" in relation to a sex tape title.
- Jake and Amy go to a restaurant called Bouche Manger, which translates to Mouth Eat.
- Bill Hader and Andy Samberg previously worked together on the comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live (1975).
- Both Bill Hader and Andy Samberg have worked together before in the 'Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatball' series. Hader gave a voice over for the protagonist Flint Lockwood while Samberg gave voice over for his bully-turned-friend Baby Brent.
- Bill Hader (Captain Dozerman) and Jo Lo Truglio (Charles Boyle) previously played law enforcement partners in Paul (2011). Funnily enough, in this episode, Captain Holt ends up naming the pigeon mascot "Paulie"
- Bill Hader was selected to play the role of the new precinct captain.

Halloween III
S03E05 Episode aired 25 October 2015
- As explained in previous Halloween episodes, Amy Santiago doesn't enjoy the costume aspect of the holiday. So when the team is dressed up to prank Boyle, she is dressed as Santa's elf. It's fair to assume she is far more enthusiastic about Christmas than Halloween, therefore it's likely the elf getup was the closest thing to a Halloween costume she had on hand.
- Gina is dressed as a bullfighter. Earlier in the season, she said that was her dream job.
- At the start of the episode, everyone except Charles and Captain Holt are wearing Halloween costumes: Terry is dressed as Popeye, Jake as a samurai, Amy as a Christmas elf, Gina as a matador, Rosa as Little Bo Peep, and Hitchcock and Scully (who clearly suffered some miscommunication with each other) are both dressed as bottles of mustard.
- After the Captain says Boyle's costume is Elvis Stoyko the Canadian figure skater, Boyle does a pirouette. Like a figure skater might do.
- For the heist, Captain Holt's code name is "The Golden Sparrow".
- For the heist, Rosa's code name is "The Scorpion".
- For the heist, Captain Holt's team code name is Alpha Team.
- (Spoiler for Season 6) As cockroaches cover the floor, Gina shouts her desire for someone to make her tweets into a book in the event that she dies. In the Season 6 episode "Four Movements," Amy does that very thing.
- It is well documented that Amy dislikes both Halloween and wearing costumes, while Charles loves both. Not only does the episode start with Amy in costume and Charles not, she ultimately dons an unprecedented second disguise for the heist: a janitor's uniform, complete with fake mustache.
Into the Woods
S03E06 Episode aired 8 November 2015
- Jake talks about having an app on his phone that makes him sound like T-Pain. Andy Samberg actually did a song with T-Pain as The Lonely Island, called "I'm on a Boat".

- At around 02:40, Terry mentions that Rosa used to do ballet. This was first revealed in S1E6 'Halloween', in which Rosa reveals that she left Catholic school because she got into the American Ballet Academy. She was later kicked out after "beating the crap out of ballerinas".
- In the mattress store, the following dialogue occurs -"I love this mattress" -"And it loves having you in it" -"God?" -"It's Brian"This is most likely a reference to the movie "Monty Python's Life of Brian"
- In this episode, Amy tells Holt that she and Jake have never had a fight, and "our only close call was when Jake didn't know who Will Shortz was." Holt responds incredulously, "Really? You've never heard of the Puzzle Master?" Will Shortz later guest-starred in the season 5 episode titled "The Puzzle Master."
Ava
S03E08 Episode aired 22 November 2015
- Nick Offerman, who plays Frederick, is also the voice that says "Fremulon", the name of the show's television production company, at the end of each episode.

- Dressed as a turkey, Boyle twice says "gobble, gobble" even though it was established during Boyle Bingo that he insists on saying gobble three times.
- The hospital where Sharon gives birth is Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, the same hospital where Charles gets taken after being shot in the behind in Christmas.
- Gina mentions clicking a link saying that "'Balloon Boy' grew up hot", likely referring to the Balloon boy hoax from 2009.
- Gina refuses to do any pregnancy-related favors for Jake regarding Terry's wife, saying "that crap is nasty.... dress it up however you want, that's some disgusting animal kingdom nonsense." Later, in season 5, Gina will become pregnant (written in to the show to coincide with Chelsea Peretti's real-life pregnancy). Also, during THIS season, Melissa Fumero became pregnant, though the pregnancy is covered using camera tricks and conveniently placed set pieces and props, as her character, Amy Santiago, is NOT pregnant.
- Captain Holt's ex boyfriend Frederick (Nick Offerman) comments that the precinct is a terrible place to have a baby, and that Sharon should go to the hospital to give birth. Amy later ends up having to give birth to Jake's son in the precinct.

The Cruise
S03E13 Episode aired 26 January 2016
- Melissa Fumero (Amy Santiago) is visibly pregnant. In an attempt to obscure her pregnancy, she carries the same bag in nearly every scene.
- Even though the cruise that Jake and Amy take is shown to be underway and out on the open water, the scenes set on the cruise ship were actually filmed on location on the Queen Mary, a 1930s Cunard-White Star ocean liner that is permanently moored at a dock in Long Beach Harbor as a tourist attraction featuring restaurants, historical displays, event spaces, and a hotel. Its proximity to Los Angeles makes it a common filming location for movies and TV shows that have scenes set on period ships; TV shows such as Castle (2009), Entourage (2004), The X-Files (1993), Murder, She Wrote (1984), CSI: Miami (2002), and NCIS: Los Angeles (2009) have all used the Queen Mary to serve as a ship location.

Karen Peralta
S03E14 Episode aired 2 February 2016
- Captain Holt's "Escape the Room" challenge takes place in a space made to look like a 1950s-era fallout shelter. Without any apparent reason or explanation, the American flag on the wall is the 45-star version, which was introduced in 1896 when Utah became a state. It was the official flag until 1908, after Oklahoma became a state when Theodore Roosevelt was president.
- The poster on the wall in Jake's childhood room was previously featured in Brooklyn Nine-Nine: USPIS (2014) on a suspect's wall. It is for the band Saves the Day. This was from a show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, on their 2006 tour with openers Circa Survive, Moneen, and Pistolita. It was designed by renowned poster artists Dkng Studios early on in their career.
- The poster on the door in Jakes childhood room says hot rod on it. Andy Samberg starred in the movie Hot Rod.
- While talking to Jake about his father cheating with multiple women, she mentions that he also cheated on her with Bonnie, who wore a wig. This might be a reference to Friends, where Ross was dating a girl named Bonnie who used to be bald.

- The phone store which Jake and Adrian investigate after it has been broken into has the same layout as the one from the show's pilot episode.
- The organization that Holt submits a grant request for funds to improve the office is the M. C. Guffin Foundation. In film parlance, a "McGuffin" is a plot device in the form of some goal, desired object, or another motivator that the protagonist pursues, often with little or no narrative explanation. Therefore, the M. C. Guffin Foundation is a literal McGuffin.
- During the filming of this episode, Melissa Fumero was in the late stages of her pregnancy. The show runners covered it using classic tactics; putting her in loose-fitting clothing and having her either sit behind a desk or stand holding files in front of her belly.
- At the beginning of the episode when Adrian grabs Jake, Terry says "Don't be a dumb dumb." 'Dumb dumb' is a phrase Jason Mantzoukas, who plays Adrian, often says.
- There actually is a grocery store at the corner of Atlantic and Clinton in Brooklyn. It's a Key Foods.
- Jason Mantzoukas (Adrian Pimento) and Michael Schur also worked together on The Good Place (2016) as Derek and on Parks and Recreation as Dennis Feinstein. Michael Schur created Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Good Place and Parks and Recreation.

Maximum Security
S03E21 Episode aired 5 April 2016
- Melissa Fumero (Amy) was in the late stages of her real-life pregnancy at the time of filming. Amy and Jake's conversation ("Do I really look pregnant?"/"Uh, I GUESS I can see it") is poking fun at the sitcom trope of poorly employing obvious camera, prop, and wardrobe tricks to hide an actor's pregnancy. Over the past several episodes, Fumero has been shown in loose-fitting clothing, sitting at her desk behind piles of paperwork, standing behind chairs, holding files over her belly, and being masked behind large (and sometimes sparkly) set pieces or props.
- Once again, Gina makes use of the nickname "ScarJo," short for actress Scarlett Johansson, with whom Gina seems to be obsessed.
- In this episode they use the fact that Melissa Fumero (Amy Santiago) is pregnant.
- Aida Turturro plays the sister a mobster this episode, she also played the sister of mobster Tony Soprano in The Sopranos.
Bureau
S03E22 Episode aired 12 April 2016
- As the team leave the FBI offices they walk in a line reenacting the opening credits to The Unit (2006). Dennis Haysbert played Jonas Blain in The Unit
- Captain Holt refers to Pimento's case as Operation 225641441636324. He mentions assigning a number to each letter of Pimento's name and squared it. This means the numbers assigned to each letter are as follows: P = 15, I = 8, M = 12, E = 4, N = 6, T = 18. It seems like the letter O was not assigned a number. Whether it was assigned a 0 value and left out on purpose or left out by mistake is unclear.
- Jake is unable to do a pull-up in this episode. He previously did several in the season two episode "Stakeout."
- Santiago asks Maura's (Turturro) character what she did in New York. This is a reference to Aida Turturro's previous role as Janice Soprano in the hit HBO show 'The Sopranos'.
- When Charles is running through his alias' backstory he says his best friend is "Yacob Peralberg", a Jewish take on "Jake Peralta".
- Dennis Haysbert and Dean Winters (recurring guest star who plays the Vulture) are both known as spokesmen for Allstate Insurance in the US.
- During the FBI heist, the show uses split screens to show what Rosa, Jake & Holt are doing in real time. This same technique is used in 24 (2001) in which guest star Dennis Haysbert (Agent Bob Anderson) is a star of.
- Dennis Haysbert and Mary Lynn Rajskub previously starred alongside each other in 24 (2001), though they share no scenes in this episode.
- Charles tells Amy that Jake made his alias Jewish and when he is reviewing his character's backstory he says that he shares everything with his best friend "Yacob Peralberg", a Jewish take on Jake Peralta as well as a combination of Jake and Andy's last names.
- Joe Lo Truglio and Dennis Haysbert both voiced Hero's Duty characters in the Walt Disney movie Wreck-It Ralph (2012).
- When Captain Holt is assigning a numerical name for the case he messes up. P is the 16th letter in the alphabet. 16 squared is 256. Captain Holt states the first three numbers of the case as 225. The fourth number of the case is 6 (2256). Captain Holt added an extra 2 at the beginning of the case name.
- Apollo Bars, a candy featured in Lost (2004) are the "celebration candy" which Jake hands out to Rosa, Holt, and Bob Annderson after they successfully arrest the FBI agent.
Greg and Larry
S03E23 Episode aired 19 April 2016
- When disguising as doctors, Captain Holt says: "This brings back memories". In reality, actor Andre Braugher played the role of Dr. Ben Gideon in the TV show Gideon's Crossing. He was also nominated for a Golden Globe for that role.
- The apartment where Rosa was staying at has the same look of the apartment Charles and Rosa were applying and competing for in "The Cruise".
- Captain Holt says "not all adults have a lake house" - the actor Andre Baugher appears in 'The Mist' as the man who owns the lake house next door to the main protagonist.
- Amy and Charles watch 27 Dresses (2008) on the plane, while Terry tells Jake that he watches a lot of Grey's Anatomy (2005). Both star Katherine Heigl.
- Peralta makes references to Florida and a "road trip." This foreshadows the ending where Peralta and Holt are living in Orlando under Witness Protection.
- In order to escape the hospital, Capt. Holt pretends to be a psychiatrist escorting two mental patients. Andre Braugher also played a psychiatrist, Dr. Darryl Nolan, who works in a mental hospital, on the TV show House M.D. (2004).
