1. The ship's crew members speak Swedish and Finnish. When Sister Evangelina climbs on the ship you can hear the crew members say in Finnish "varovasti" multilple times which means "careful". The man who gives the daughter a cross around her neck says in Finnish: "Pidä itsestäs huolta siellä ja koita olla rohkee." Which translates to English as "Take care of yourself in there and try to be brave." However, the English captions, on Netflix at least, claim the man is speaking in Swedish.

1. A reference is made to the "Bunty". This was a British comic magazine for girls, published weekly from 1958 to 2001. It was a collection of many short comic-strip stories, as well as letters, competitions, featured readers, puzzle pages, promotions, next-week previews and advertisements. The back page initially featured a cut-out doll and paper clothes. Unlike earlier and contemporary comics, it was aimed primarily at working-class readers under the age of 14.

1. When Sister Monica Joan is due to take a holiday, Sister Evangelina says that she'll be "at the seafront with a 99". A "99" is an ice cream cone with chocolate flakes on top.

1. Dr. Turner makes a reference to the "triple treatment" for tuberculosis. This therapy was developed in 1952; it consists of streptomycin, para-aminosalicylic acid and isoniazid.

1. A reference is made to Flanagan and Allen and "Underneath the Arches". Flanagan and Allen were a popular singing and comedy duo; "Underneath the Arches", one of their best-known songs, is about a railroad bridge under which homeless people took shelter.
