Unquiet Mind

1. Based on the Walt Longmire Mystery "Hell is Empty"
2. After falling in the creek Walt sees an owl. This was revealed in season 1 to be the Cheyenne symbol of death.

Carcasses

1. Brendan Fehr (Greg Collette) was on a show called Roswell (1999-2002) set in Roswell, New Mexico but filmed in California. Longmire is set in Wyoming but filmed in New Mexico.

Death Came in Like Thunder

1. The prior warrant to search the motel room for Rosa had to be limited in time and scope. It did not extend carte blanch authority to the police power. It was proper, therefore, and good police work, to seek a second warrant with the specificity to search for poison and secure potential evidence that would not be excludable at trial.
2. Henri Lubatti (who played Costa Vayas), Brad William Henke (who played Sal Vayas), and Monique Gabriela Curnen (who played Amaya Vayas) all had small roles in various episodes of CSI: Miami.
3. 'Hemlock' is repeatedly mentioned as the plant that poisons the well water. However, the plant pieces that are pulled from the wells are not poison hemlock. Deputy Moretti notes that hemlock was the plant that killed Socrates. In the case of Socrates, the plant was poison hemlock (Conium maculatum), one of several species in the carrot family known to be highly poisonous. The plant parts that were pulled from the wells had oval or rounded leaves. The poisonous carrot family plants have highly dissected leaves.

The Road to Hell

1. W. Earl Brown (R.J. Watts) has several westerns under his belt including Longmire. Some of his other credits include: The Cherokee Kid, The Alamo, Deadwood, Justified, The Last Rites of Ransom Pride, Longmire, The Lone Ranger, and Deadwood: The Movie.
2. At 0:24:49 Walt mentions that the activist group E.L.F. "sabotaged a fracking operation." Fracking is the process of drilling down into the earth before a high-pressure water mixture is directed at the rock to release the gas inside. Water, sand and chemicals are injected into the rock at high pressure which allows the gas to flow out to the head of the well. Fracking is also a common curse word in the t.v. series Battlestar Galactica. Katie Saccoff (Vic) formerly played the character Starbuck on that show.
3. Alma Sisneros (Shadow Young S02 E04) and Amber Midthunder (Lilly Stillwater S01 E01 and S03 E03) didn't work together on Longmire but, have multiple projects in common: Longmire, The Originals, Hell or High Water, and Roswell, New Mexico.

Party's Over

1. Gina Rodriguez (Lorna Dove) was the star of the award winning movie Filly Brown in which Lou Diamond Phillips played her father.
2. Katee Sackhoff and Gina Rodriguez have both lent their voices to characters on Robot Chicken.
3. Katee Sackhoff, Madchen Amick, Gina Rodriguez all had guest appearances on Law & Order.
4. Lou Diamond Phillips and Gina Rodriguez are both voice actors on Disney cartoon Elena of Avalor Season 2.

Tell It Slant

1. The title of this episode comes from a poem by Emily Dickinson that opens with the line "Tell all the truth but tell it slant...." The poem suggests that the complete and full truth may be so bright and dazzling that it would strike a person blind if you encountered it all at once. Instead, you might have to edge up to the truth, circle around it, to be able to take it in.
2. Heyoka is the Lakota word for the sacred clown; it is odd that an appropriate Cheyenne word for this type of person was not used.
3. Cassandra is the name of the psychic in this episode, it's also the name of a psychic in Greek mythology. Cassandra was cursed by the gods: every prophecy she was told was true but no one believed her.
4. Gary Farmer (the Contrary Warrior) was in The Dark Wind with Lou Diamond Phillips in 1991. He played "Cowboy" Albert Dashee, a Hopi sheriff's deputy.
5. Katee Sackhoff and Christopher Cousins (Calvin Cowley) have in common the fact they both worked on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Sound and Fury

1. There is a director's cut of this episode which runs about 9 minutes longer than the broadcast version. It's available on the Blu-ray and DVD for the second season as an extra.
2. Andrea Roth (Diane Highsmith) and Lee Turgesen (Ed Gorski) both make guest appearances on this episode. They previously worked together on Rescue Me Season 2.
3. Katee Sackhoff previously worked with John Hensley (Zip), on Nip Tuck (2009).
4. Cassidy Freeman (Cady Longmire), Adam Bartley (The Ferg), and Lee Tergesen (Ed Gorski) were all on TV show Doubt(2017).

The Great Spirit

1. Cassidy Freeman (Cady Longmire) played Tess Luther on Smallville, where Ryan Kennedy (Paul) guest starred on 2 episodes during season 8.

Tuscan Red

1. Doc Bloomfield introduces himself as half Japanese and part Jewish, then jokes, "You thought I'd be Korean?" Actor Kenneth Choi is of Korean ancestry.
2. Katee Sackhoff and Raoul Max Trujillo (Grady Littlefoot) were both in the movie Riddick (2013).
3. Kenneth Choi (Dr. Bloomfield) was on Sons if Anarchy. Raoul Max Trujillo (Grady Littlefoot) was on Mayans M.C., which was a spinoff of Sons of Anarchy.
4. Eric Schweig (Dolan Lone Elk) and Raoul Max Trujillo (Grady Littlefoot) both worked on miniseries Into the West (2005).

Election Day

1. Aaron Shivers (Billy Barnes) and David Midthunder (bartender in opening scene) were both involved in the miniseries Into the West (2005).

Natural Order

1. At the beginning of the episode, Ruby (Louanne Stephens) is reading Cowboys & Indians Magazine. In October 2017, the magazine did a cover story on Longmire.
2. At the beginning of the episode Lee Risky (Jim Beaver) says that there's not a lot of business during the summer. Later, Branch asks Henry for advice, over Henry's shoulder is a tap for Samuel Adam's Winter Lager, only available during the winter.

A Good Death Is Hard to Find

1. The Ferg drives a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
2. Cory Tucker (Hank Thompson) and Brad Carter (Riley Manning) were both previously on two of the same shows, Harry's Law and True Blood.
3. This is the second appearance of Peter Weller (Lucian Connally). The first time he appeared, his head was completely shaved. In this episode he has hair.

Bad Medicine

1. This is the only season the finale is episode 13. Every other season only has 10 episodes.
2. Just before Walt talks to Branch outside the Sheriff's Office Branch there is a shot of a Movie Theatre showing two made up films called A Serpent's Tooth and Minden 2. This is a possible foreshadow of what is to come in season 3; A Serpent's tooth is a quote from Shakespeare's King Lear, with the full quote being "How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless child!" Literal meaning - it is especially painful to raise an ungrateful child. A possible reference to Barlow and Branch's upcoming relationship. And Minden was a battle during the 7 years war (1759), suggesting a battle that is to come for Branch.
3. "Dedicated to the Granite Mountain Hotshots and all the firefighters who saved the historic buildings in the Valles Caldera National Preserve"
4. Charles S. Dutton (Detective Fales) and Lee Tergesen (Ed Gorski) were both on OZ. Even though they both have recurring roles, this is the first episode they are both on Longmire at the same time.
