1. Early in the episode, Schmidt and his boss Kim are riding the elevator. While doing so, Schmidt says they are the "unbreakable Kim and Schmidt," an obvious reference to the Netflix series, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
2. In the previous episode "Where the Road Goes", Sam comments on how Winston wears bird shirts and Winston responds with "I wear fish shirts now." In this episode Winston is wearing a bird shirt.
3. Bear Hunt: Nick brings Ruth a huge teddy bear.

1. The jacket Winston wears in the episode is the same "8 Ball" jacket worn by David Puddy in Season 9, episode 12 of Seinfeld, "The Reverse Peephole".
2. Nick finally proposes to Jess in this episode.

The Curse of the Pirate Bride

1. Groovy Kind of Love, which is played at the wedding, is the first song Nick, Jess, and the rest of the gang dance to at their first wedding together in season one.
2. Bear Hunt: Nick's publisher asks, "who's that bear over there?"
3. Final appearance of Tran, this also marks the final appearance of Russell
4. Jake Johnson actually broke his left hand while filming the fight scene with Dermot Mulroney (Russell). This was the first, and only, injury on the New Girl set. The writers had to change part of the ending to include Nick getting a cast on at the hospital so that they didn't have to explain Nick suddenly in a cast for the finale.
5. This episode marks the second time Tran speaks throughout the series. The first was in season two, episode seven, "Menzies".

1. The show's series finale.
2. Nick is seen wearing a cast on his hand during this episode, as well as at the end of the previous episode. This is due to Jake Johnson having accidentally broken his hand during his on screen fight with Russell in The Pirate Bride.
3. A major plot point of this episode is that Schmidt feels betrayed when he discovers Nick hasn't ever used the foot lotion Schmidt has got him for Christmas every year since college. In order to make up with Schmidt, Nick uses the lotion and tells Schmidt he loves him, much to the shock and amazement of their friends because they say he's never said it before. This is false because Nick has said "I love you" to Schmidt numerous times throughout the series.
