- Mark Proksch (Dan) and Angela Kinsey (Rose) previously starred together on The Office (2005).
- In the start of the episode, after Nick tries to fix Jess' hair, her hair changes positions in-between shots.
- When Jess's new boss finds her and Nick outside in his back yard and invites them into his new jacuzzi, he puts on some music. The song he plays is "I Don't Wanna Wait" by Paula Cole, which was also the theme song for the show Dawson's Creek. This episode of New Girl features Dreama Walker as one of the teachers Jess is trying to impress. Walker starred in the sitcom Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23 alongside James Van der Beek, who rose to fame as the star of Dawson's Creek.

So Jess' Halloween costume combines King's first name and the character's name that she plays in the movie, even though Jess is actually referencing musician Joey Ramone.
- When Schmidt hurls the broom, it accidentally sticks in the wall and reveals the fake bricks of the set.

- This marks the first appearance of Damon Wayans Jr. as Coach since the show's pilot episode. His previous show, Happy Endings (2011), had been canceled after three seasons, allowing Wayans Jr. to come back to this show.

- Throughout the show they say Nick dropped out of law school, however in this episode he says he not only finished but took the California bar.

Prince

- The episode is the sole television acting role of Prince, as well as his sole acting role outside of his own film projects. Prince had been known for regularly turning down all acting requests. This episode was conceived after Prince reached out to the producers and offered to guest star, being a fan of the show.
- Prior to his guest appearance, Prince told Zooey Deschanel that New Girl was the only television show he watched.
- By far the most watched episode of the series with 26.3 million viewers, drawn from being the lead-out program of Super Bowl XLVIII.
- A minor plot point bears a striking resemblance to an episode of The Cosby Show wherein Stevie Wonder's limo hits Denise's car, so he invites the whole family to a recording session as an apology.
- In the episode Prince asked and feeds Jessica pancakes. In season 2 episode 5 of Chapelle Show, Charlie Murphy recalled a story about playing basketball with Prince after which he offers and serves Charlie and his guest pancakes. Prince didn't appear in the episode, Dave Chapelle portrayed Prince in the reenactment.
- When Cece and Jess almost got hit by Prince's car, you can notice there is a Minnesota license plate on the vehicle. Prince lived in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
- Khloe Kardashian and Kris Jenner filmed a cameo for this episode, but the scene was cut because Prince refused to be in the same episode as them.
- A flashback to Nick's youth reveals that he dressed up and performed a Prince song in his high school days, where he wore eyeshadow. In the beginning and majority of the episode, you can see eyeshadow remnants around Jake Johnson's (Nick's) eyes from where the removed the makeup.

Jeremy Renner, who starred in Hurt Locker, played Clint Barton (Hawkeye) in the Avengers franchise. Linda Cardellini, who plays Jess's sister Abby Day, also plays Renner's wife Laura Barton.
- For a brief moment during the dinner scene, Nick's mouth and the audio do not align correctly.

Three other actors who spent time on The Office have also been on this show: Nelson Franklin (Robbie), Mark Proksch (Dan, the teacher) and Clark Duke (Cliff, Nick's girlfriend's law clerk).
