- The exterior shots of the bar were filmed on the corner of Pine Street and Peck Street in Providence, Rhode Island. The building shown is Hanley's Ale House.
- Bear hunt : At 21:58 Coach sings "there's bears in my house"
- After this episode, Damon Wayans Jr. (Coach) does not return until season 3 episode 7 "New Girl: Coach (2013)." Wayans Jr. signed on to this show at the time his other show, Happy Endings (2011), hadn't been renewed or canceled for a second season. By the time filming for the pilot episode of New Girl completed, Happy Endings (2011) had officially been renewed. That show's renewal caused Wayans Jr. to temporarily depart from this show and return working there.

- Nick refers to himself, Schmidt, and Coach as being "Reverse Mormons" in the restaurant when they go to get Jess after she's been stood up. Although this is just poking fun, Mormons (LDS Members) do not practice polygamy. There are offshoot branches of the LDS church that do practice polygamy, but the LDS church does not associate with or support them.

- First time Schmidt's past weight problem is referenced.
- Schmidt at one point references "Sid and Nancy" to Brooke, the girl he likes from high school. Max Greenfield's costar Zooey Deschanel stars in 500 Days of Summer (2009) and her character Summer also makes this exact same reference.
- The song played at the end of the wedding, A Groovy Kind of Love by Phil Collins, is also played at Nick & Jess' wedding.

- The mural of the "sexually-charged zero-G tea ceremony" in the closet, which is signed by a "Gian Carlo" whom Schmidt also identifies as the painter, is in real life entitled "Digital Space Girl". It was actually created by Los Angeles-based artist David Larks, who also produced many T-shirts, book covers, paintings and murals for the show.
- Jeff Kober (Remy) and Gillian Vegman (Kim) have both guest starred on Supernatural (2005). Kober was in season 2 episode 19, Folsom Prison Blues, and Vegman was in season 10 episode 6, Ask Jeeves.

- Though they don't appear in any scene together, Ryan Kwanten (Oliver) and Lizzy Caplan (Julia) both guest star in this episode. Ryan Kwanten and Lizzy Caplan were in True Blood together in which their characters were in a relationship.
- Schmidt mentions the first season of The Vampire Diaries, Stephen Amell was in the first season of The Vampire Diaries as a werewolf called Brady
- In this episode, Ryan Kwanten's character is named Oliver. Stephen Amell guest stars in this episode as Kyle. Stephen Amell is the star of the CW show Arrow where he plays the DC character Oliver Queen. Ryan Kwanten and Stephen Amell appear in the same scene in this episode.
- Jake Johnson appeared in Clark Duke's series Clark and Micheal as an audition director.

Fancyman Part 2

Damon Wayans Jr., who played Coach in the pilot episode, left 'New Girl' for a co-starring role in the show Happy Endings (2011), where he is the only black character.
- Paul says "I messed up big time" to Jess. Earlier in the season Jess pretends she made a play called "Big Time" to cover up her being heard by everyone talking to Nick saying "I wanna sleep with him (Paul) big time!"
- Jess wonders to herself if she is secretly a cylon. This is a reference to Battlestar Galactica where robots can look exactly like humans, five characters of which have no idea they are robots living among humans.

In real life, the mural was actually created by Los Angeles-based artist David Larks, who also produced many T-shirts, book covers, paintings and murals for the show.
- White Fang is never sent away for his own good in the book, only in the movie. This implies that Schmidt may have the book on his kindle, but has only ever seen the movie.
