TV Series (2009–2015)

Season 2

Table of Contents

Anthropology 101

S02E01 Episode aired 23 September 2010
  1. In addition to being a reference to "The Toy", Troy's Spider-Man pajamas are also an inside joke about actor Donald Glover's 2010 online campaign to be cast as Spider-Man.
  2. The scene of Troy (Donald Glover) waking up in Spider-Man pajamas was used in the movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). Glover also appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017).
  3. Abed's explanation of why he likes TV is a common reason why many on the Autism Spectrum prefer fantasy and scripting cinema to conversations with people.
  4. Dean Pelton's name can be seen on Professor Bauer's blackboard listed in the "Knuckle Walking" group of "Locomotor Types". Monkeys are the only other member of this group.
  5. The cover of "Linger" (with new lyrics by Abed) was not sung by Cranberries lead singer Dolores O'Riordan as has been speculated, but by a performer named Kasey Truman, who goes by the stage name "Deerheart."
  6. The folded paper fortune teller used in the credits has added numbers on the outside surfaces beginning in this episode for the rest of the series run.

Accounting for Lawyers

S02E02 Episode aired 30 September 2010
  1. Jeff's middle name is revealed as Tobias in the letter to the state bar.
  2. Guest star Rob Corddry is the fraternity brother of Joel McHale; they both are brothers of Theta Chi, although Joel was only a member for three months at University of Washington. Corddry is an alumnus of Theta Chapter at UMass.
  3. After Jeff sees the email Alan sent that told the State Bar he didn't go to college, he was not wrong to say that Alan was a great lawyer. According to the Professional Rules of Responsibility, lawyers have a legal and ethical responsibility to report to their state bar if they know another lawyer has violated these rules, like lying about an undergraduate degree to get into law school. So really, Alan was following the professional ethical rules all lawyers must follow. That being said, it's a mystery why he hasn't been disbarred for the various professional rules he's broken.

The Psychology of Letting Go

S02E03 Episode aired 7 October 2010
  1. The girl that Jeff says "Hey, gorgeous" to, in the Medical Lab, is reading an STD pamphlet.
  2. In the car to get ice cream, Pierce says he is going to put some Loggins in the CD player. Chevy Chase was in "Caddyshack" (1980) which featured a hit song by Kenny Loggins.
  3. Throughout various scenes, Abed can be seen in the background involved in an independent story line. In it: 0:00:20 - He is seen outside the study room talking to a woman in the late stages of pregnancy, and he puts his ear to her belly, then he leaves her to go to the study group. 0:05:45 - He is seen outside with the woman and a man who appears to be her boyfriend. The man confronts Abed and tries to attack him, but Abed runs away and the man is seen chasing after him. 0:13:20 - They are seen in the cafeteria where the woman goes into labor and Abed and the man attempt to help her. 0:17:35 - They are seen outside, where the woman is in the back of a van and Abed is helping her give birth. 0:19:50 - Finally, as Shirley asks Abed what he's been up to, he is looking over her shoulder at the happy couple and baby. This is referenced later in S02E17 in which Troy asks him if he is "just constantly having your own side adventures" and Abed confirms that he does, as well as in S02E22 when Abed mentions that he had helped deliver a baby earlier in the year. In addition, this takes place roughly ten months after "The Politics of Human Sexuality" in which students are given faulty condoms and told not to use them if they have sex. A couple similar in appearance to the man and pregnant woman can be seen sitting in the background at the STD Fair.

Basic Rocket Science

S02E04 Episode aired 14 October 2010
  1. The City College program is called City College Cosmic Pioneer and the picture of their simulator pod has the initials CCCP on the outside. CCCP is also the acronym for the USSR in its native Cyrillic alphabet, so it's likely they got their simulator from a Russian program. (More likely it was a reference to actual Soviet spacecraft, which were similarly marked.)
  2. The first appearance of the Greendale Community College flag.
  3. The motto on Greendale's flag, "E Pluribus Anus" (latin for "of many assholes"), is a mockery of the original motto "E pluribus unum" ("Out of many, one") which appears on the Great Seal of the United States.
  4. This episode references not only the space race during the Cold War between the US and the Soviet Union but also space related movies like Apollo 13, The Right Stuff, and Armageddon.
  5. At the end of the episode Abed's ship has 1.21 gigawatts written on the back, a reference to the DeLorean from Back to the Future (1985).

Messianic Myths and Ancient Peoples

S02E05 Episode aired 21 October 2010
  1. When Abed reveals to the Dean that his character's name in his movie is "Abed," the Dean replies that he loves Charlie Kaufman. Charlie Kaufman is a screenwriter and director whose movies often explore questions of identity; one of them, Being John Malkovich (1999), famously features the eponymous actor John Malkovich playing himself, similarly to Abed's role in his film. Kaufman's films Adaptation. (2002) and Synecdoche, New York (2008) are also meta-narratives similar to Abed's film.
  2. When the group of students around Pierce and Leonard is caught playing poker by the dean, Pierce fakes an Alzheimer's affliction. He looks at a card and murmurs "Veronica". "Veronica" is the title of a 1989 song by Elvis Costello and Paul McCartney about an old lady suffering from Alzheimer's.

Epidemiology

S02E06 Episode aired 28 October 2010
  1. The cat in the dark basement is ginger; an homage to Jones the cat in Alien (1979), a film this episode make numerous references to.
  2. Wilhelm Scream: Heard after Troy punches someone in a wizard costume after reentering the building in his construction mech costume.
  3. The tombstone Rich sits on to check the bite on his ankle bears the name of producer Sean Veder.
  4. The opening credits of the intro are Halloween-themed.
  5. This episode aired October 28th 2010. Three days later, October 31st, 2010, AMC's The Walking Dead premiered.
  6. When Troy is escaping through the window he says to Abed "I love you" and Abed replies "I know" before being bitten and taken down by the zombies. This is an homage to Star Wars when Han Solo is being placed into the carbon freeze Leia says, "I love you," and Han replies, "I know."
  7. The "zombification" of the characters occurs in this order: Pierce (eats the "taco meat"), Star-Burns (bitten by Pierce), Rich (bitten at some point prior to the study group's quarantine), Britta (same as Rich), Annie (dragged away by zombies after Chang breaks a window), Chang and Shirley (bitten after having sex in the bathroom), Jeff (gets surrounded by zombies after opening a door, letting them in the room), Abed (sacrifices himself to allow Troy to escape), Troy (bitten by Abed).

Aerodynamics of Gender

S02E07 Episode aired 4 November 2010
  1. Under the heading "Current Synopsis", Abed's first brief Robovision states: "Britta, Shirley, and Annie make Abed into one of the girls, with zero repercussions; Jeff, Pierce, and Troy learn a lesson about either basketball or remote toys." Later in the episode the second "Current Synopsis" reads "Britta, Shirley, and Annie make Abed into one of the girls, which backfires; Jeff and Troy discover a relaxation secret that confuses and frustrates Pierce."
  2. From Abed's Robovision it shows a projected cycle for Shirley on 11/4/2010. It is fair to assume that this would be the beginning of the cycle. The episode aired on 11/4/2010 so it is also fair to assume that the show's calendar is very close to the real world calendar and in show-time, it is 11/4/2010 as Shirley's cycle hasn't passed, yet.Earlier, Abed's Robovision showed that Troy's birthday is coming up in 14 days, making Troy's birthday 11/18.
  3. In addition to hints of upcoming storylines, Abed's robovision also includes projection data on Annie, Britta, and Shirley's monthly cycles. The following program revealed that he had been graphing these--quite accurately--for some time.
  4. Some of Abed's "robovision" included references and synopses of the episode up to that point. There were also references to possible future events such as "AM interview with Starburns," "Sell study group on paintball sequel," and so on.
  5. In one of Abed's Robovision screens, one of his memos is 'Build blanket fort'; this forms part of the storyline in 2 episodes' time.

Cooperative Calligraphy

S02E08 Episode aired 11 November 2010
  1. The repeated statement "bottle episode" refers to the term used in episodic television for episodes which are produced using the least money, and restricted in their scope to use as few or no non-regular cast members, effects, and sets as possible.
  2. The second time that "Beetlejuice" is said, in reference to Jeff's underwear.
  3. If you look closely, you can actually see the pen as it's being stolen off the desk in the scene where the dean drops by.
  4. The white board in the library contains a paragraph about evolution and mentions monkeys several times - in a sense, giving the answer to how the pen disappeared.
  5. The reason for Troy's wide eyed response to Abed saying Shirley would have been ovulating on Halloween is that he realised, if Shirley were pregnant, the baby would more than likely be Señor Chang's, as Chang confessed to Troy that he 'did it' with Shirley in the Halloween episode.
  6. Abed says that it's impossible for Shirley to have conceived during Labor Day weekend because she would've been ovulating on Halloween. However, Labor Day is the first Monday of September and Halloween is on the last day of October so it's entirely possible that she could've gotten pregnant before Halloween.
  7. The individual who stole Annie's pen, is seen at the beginning of the episode. It is Annie's Boobs.

Conspiracy Theories and Interior Design

S02E09 Episode aired 18 November 2010
  1. Pierce doesn't have a single line of dialogue in the episode.
  2. When the group chases Garrity through the blanket fort, they get held up by a Latvian Independence Day parade. The original air date was November 18, 2010 which actually was Latvian Independence Day.
  3. In "Basic Rocket Science," Britta mentions that Greendale has a course in Theoretical Phys Ed. Here, the class turns up on Garrity's list of fake courses.
  4. Two episodes ago, in Abed's Robovision, one of his memos was "build blanket fort"
  5. In this episode, when Jeff asks Annie why she has a real gun, she says, "I live in a terrible neighborhood." In the next episode, Season 2 episode 10, 'Mixology Certification,' when they drop Annie off at her apartment, Jeff and Britta say that she lives in a sketchy part of town. In season 3 episode 4, 'Remedial Chaos Theory,' Troy finds a real gun in her bag and it is discovered that Annie does in fact live in a dangerous neighborhood.
  6. "Fat Neil" is first mentioned in this episode. He later becomes the featured character of "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons."

Mixology Certification

S02E10 Episode aired 2 December 2010
  1. The study group gets a cake reading: "Hello during a random dessert. The month and day of which coincide numerically with your expulsion from a uterus." for Troy citing his being raised a Jehovah's Witness since they do not celebrate holidays or birthdays as part of their faith. Donald Glover was raised as a Jehovah's Witness.
  2. In the opening scene Pierce says, "We only sang the last two words. What happened to the "happy birthday" part?". At the time this episode was made Warner/Chappell Music claimed copyright to the happy birthday song and collected royalties every time the song was used in a movie or TV show, taking in about $2,000,000 a year. Writers and directors got creative in implying "Happy Birthday To You" without actually using it. In 2016 the song was declared public domain.
  3. Both Paul F Tompkins and Alison Brie are in this episode. They later appear as husband and wife in the Netflix series BoJack Horseman (2014).
  4. Donald Glover's character is turning 21 in this episode while in reality he was 27
  5. 3 episodes ago, during one of Abed's Robovision screens, one of the memos read: Troy's birthday in 2 weeks

Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas

S02E11 Episode aired 9 December 2010
  1. The episode won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual in Animation - character animation.
  2. Dan Harmon explained in an interview why Abed chose the particular toys to represent his friends: 'Abed sees Jeff as a big talking head with limited practical functionality, and he sees Pierce as maybe deserving of more love than he gets, and sees Troy as a soldier, and sees Britta as a malfunctioning device, and sees Annie as a creature of grace, and sees Shirley as a big baby who feels entitled to the Christmas of her choosing."
  3. Abed's mom's Christmas card ends with the phrase "Wash your dupa". "Dupa" is the Polish word for "ass".
  4. "Community" is supposedly set in the fictional suburb of Greendale, Colorado, but this is seldom mentioned on the show. There is a subtle visual reference to the show's location in this episode. When Abed dances in the parking lot during the opening song, all of the cars have Colorado license plates.
  5. When the group is in Winter Wonderland and Abed is warning them about the tests being dark, a snowman (presumably snowman Chang) can be seen watching them from behind a tree, then sneak back behind it.
  6. The method of teleportation employed by Duncan and Troy is a reference to British children's TV show Rentaghost (1976).
  7. When you see the cast's reflection in the TV screen at the end of the episode, it's the real actors again, not their stop-motion versions.
  8. The four "speed" settings on Abed's train are Aloof, Detached, Distant, and Bjork. The needle is initially on aloof, reflecting that Abed simply comes off as aloof to others, as opposed to detached or distant. However, he pushes ahead to Bjork, representing that he is completely detached from reality and his emotions.

Asian Population Studies

S02E12 Episode aired 20 January 2011
  1. When Jeff says 'Nice sweater' to Andre he says 'My dad gave it to me'. The sweater he's wearing is in the same style of what Bill Cosby used to wear as Cliff Huxtable on The Cosby Show (1984). Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who plays Andre, is best known for his role as Theo Huxtable, the son of Cliff Huxtable on that show.
  2. Second mention of Fat Neil, and first time we see him.
  3. Andre jokingly tells Pierce (Chevy Chase) that he looks like he has two good years left after Pierce assumes Andre is a waiter and tells him he's finished with his food. Chase, as it so happened, was only on the show for two more years after the second season.

Celebrity Pharmacology 212

S02E13 Episode aired 27 January 2011
  1. On the commentary track for this episode Chevy Chase reveals two things about the character of Pierce:Pierce miss-pronounces Abed's name wrong so that it phonetically resembles "Arab" which Chase says was his own choice and credits it to Pierce's integrated racism. Chase himself pronounces the name correctly on all commentaries.Pierce's glasses change to match the color of his outfit in the episode. This is a nod from the costume department to Pierce's fortune, and none of the other actors or writers present on the track was aware of this until he pointed it out.
  2. Abed asks if bees eat their own honey. They do. In fact, that's the purpose of honey: food for themselves and their larvae.
  3. The check that Pierce makes out to Annie is for $5,000.
  4. The episode was produced as the 12th episode of the second season. It is evident from the title "Celebrity Pharmacology 212"(where 212 is 2.12).
  5. In this episode Chang asks Shirley if she's ignoring him because he's Korean to which Shirley says "You're Chinese." In reality, Ken Jeong, the actor who plays Chang, is American but is of Korean decent.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons

S02E14 Episode aired 3 February 2011
  1. Hector was the greatest hero of Troy, so Abed's decision to make that character for Troy didn't come out of nowhere.
  2. In the episode, the study group runs through a campaign called Caverns of Draconis. In reality, it is not an actual trademarked D and D story. However, several enthusiasts on the website Reddit have plotted out a campaign for players to use if they wish.
  3. Although Abed claims to be completely impartial, he allows Pierce to make use of information that is obviously obtained from reading the adventure. This goes against specific rules regarding "player knowledge" ; there are in fact rules in Dungeons and Dragons that determine what a character does and doesn't know in the game.
  4. The narration over the episode bears a strong resemblance to Cate Blanchett's narration as Galadriel in the "Lord of the Rings" films. "The Lord of the Rings" literature was a major influence on Gary Gygax, the man who created Dungeons and Dragons.
  5. The opening credits and music were changed to establish a mythic fantasy setting. Each title card on the finger game has an appropriate D&D character for the main characters: Joel McHale - treasure chest troll, Gillian Jacobs - fire phoenix, Danny Pudi - wizard, Yvette Nicole Brown - sword & dagger, Alison Brie - unicorn, Donald Glover - elf, Ken Jeong - knight, and Chevy Chase - ogre; show title Community is on a flag instead of its normal rectangle block.
  6. Even though this episode was taken off Netflix in Australia (and possibly other countries), it is still available on the streaming service Stan.
  7. This episode is not available on Netflix in Australia, the USA, nor Sweden. It has likely been removed in support of the black lives matter movement, as it happened around the same time. A number of other episodes that depict black-face have also been removed including some from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
  8. This episode was removed from Netflix Canada in June 2020, reportedly due to Ken Jeong's appearance in black make-up. In the episode, Jeong's character wears the make-up and a wig during a game of Dungeons & Dragons to more closely resemble the dark elf Brutalitops the Magician, a character he portrays in the D&D. The episode was removed from the streaming service regardless.
  9. Shows rulebooks from both 1st Edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons and 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons.
  10. As of January 2021, this show is still available to stream on Amazon Prime!
  11. In Neil's map from evil high school to Greendale at the beginning of the episode, you can see the "Good Frozen Yogurt" shop next to Greendale. In Season 4 Episode 12, Abed dives into the group's origins. It turns out each member of the study group decided to go to Greendale in a Good Frozen Yogurt shop when Chang was distributing flyers about the school.

Early 21st Century Romanticism

S02E15 Episode aired 10 February 2011
  1. Shirley is only in the first and last scene of the episode. She's the only character that doesn't branch away from the study group to have her own storyline.
  2. First appearance of Magnitude.
  3. When Chang calls Star-Burns about the party at Jeff's, we see that his sideburns have been shaved into hearts. As in heart-burns.
  4. When Chang flashes Jeff's driver's license, Jeff Winger's date of birth is Nov 20, 1971, which also happens to be Joel McHale's actual birthday.
  5. Pierce is shown abusing his pain medication throughout the episode. Chevy Chase had a bad addiction to pain killers in the 1980's. In 1986, his addiction would lead him to seek treatment at the Betty Ford Center.
  6. John Oliver, who plays Professer Ian Duncan, is a genuine fan of Liverpool FC.
  7. Chang shows up to Jeff's apartment dressed in red and white when Jeff and Ian Duncan are watching a soccer match between Manchester United and Liverpool. Ian says to let Chang in since he's "wearing the right colors". However, both Manchester United's and Liverpool's home uniforms were red and white at the time the episode aired.
  8. This episode takes shots at Barenaked Ladies, who wrote and perform the theme song to The Big Bang Theory (2007). The producers of Community have been rivals of TBBT which shares the same competing time slot as their show. According to the creator, this connection was unintentional.
  9. Troy says that there are 8 movies in the Saw (2004) franchise. When this episode was aired, there were only 7. The 8th movie would be released in 2017.
  10. Information off of Jeff Winger's drivers license: 10202 Thalberg Drive Greendale 80022 DL: 73628360G Class: C Sex: M Eyes: Blue Hair: Blond DOB: 11-20-1971 EXP: 11-20-2016
  11. Chang shows up at Jeff's apartment wearing Red and White as a way to initially display an interest in Liverpool FC. However, it is also a subtle reference to the children's book Where's Waldo, as he attempts to move into Jeff's apartment unnoticed.

Intermediate Documentary Filmmaking

S02E16 Episode aired 17 February 2011
  1. Originally last line was 'More fish for LeVar.' but LeVar Burton improvised 'More fish for Kunta.'
  2. Kunta Kinte is a character LeVar Burton played on the miniseries Roots (1977).
  3. When Troy is having his freak out after meeting LeVar, a poster featuring a young Amy Poehler can be seen on the wall behind him.
  4. Jeff makes a "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" reference in a heated exchange between him and Pierce in the hospital. This reference is further extended with Pierce imitating Jeff's father in a similar way that Cameron imitates Sloane's father in Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986). Furthermore, the bath robe that Pierce is wearing in the car is very similar to the robe worn by Ferris Bueller in the post credit scene of that film.
  5. While Pierce and Jeff are conversing in the hospital, Pierce mentions that he thought Jeff would be the one in the hospital bed and Pierce would be a hologram. Chevy Chase's final appearance on the show would be as a hologram in Season 5 Episode 1.

Intro to Political Science

S02E17 Episode aired 24 February 2011
  1. Towards the end, in the news banner there's the title "Reports Continue of Mysterious 'Air Vent Monster'." This is a reference to the previous episode "Cooperative Calligraphy" (208), where it is revealed that a monkey is stealing items and living in the air vents.
  2. WILHELM SCREAM: Heard as Abed watches "Kickpuncher".
  3. Towards the end of the episode, Joe Biden ( played by John J. Reiner ) says to Agent Vohlers "I just had a dream that I was a regular president." On November 7, 2020, the "dream" came true when Biden was voted to become 46th President of the United States by a landslide. President Biden was officially sworn in to office on January 20, 2021.
  4. Agent Vohler's eyes are hidden the entire episode.
  5. When Annie finds Jeff in the closet, a chalkboard can be seen with the picture of a sun. This is the same chalkboard and sun used on the episode "Aerodynamics of Gender" from season 2 at the credits scene when Garrett gives his "It's still sunny" line.
  6. Annie briefly mentions the need to bring the Ass Crack Bandit to justice. In season 5, there is an entire episode dedicated to finding the ACB.
  7. The Greendale Closed-Circuit TV channel crawl at the bottom of the screen mentions various previous and future episodes, including that Professor Slater from season 1 is still missing. Also mentioned on the crawl is that there will be no paint balls at the school, and that the spring picnic will be Western themed, a reference to the two-part finale at the end of the season.

Custody Law and Eastern European Diplomacy

  1. The t-shirt Abed gives to Britta says 'it's all down hill from here'.
  2. WILHELM SCREAM: Heard as Abed, Lukka, and Troy play their video game.
  3. At the baby shower Annie waves two flags: the red one is for The People's Republic of China, the green-yellow-red-purple one is for Zimbabwe.
  4. One of the rare episodes that do not end with just Troy and Abed on the couch - instead it is a silent pan around the study table of all the principal cast.

Critical Film Studies

S02E19 Episode aired 24 March 2011

    Competitive Wine Tasting

    S02E20 Episode aired 14 April 2011
    1. Abed says to Professor Sheffield "There's a path you take and a path not taken. The choice is up to you, my friend." These are lyrics from the theme song for "Who's The Boss?" The music that directly follows is the tune of the theme.
    2. The label on the bottle of wine Pierce gives Jeff says "You're even more beautiful with every bottle" in Italian.
    3. "Caddyshack" (1980) reference. When Jeff says to Pierce, "don't sell yourself short...." it is a reference to a line uttered by Chase's character.
    4. Troy mentions Pierce's "special gym" which is filled with swings and saddles. This "special gym" can later be seen in season 4, episode 2 "Paranormal Parentage."

    Paradigms of Human Memory

    S02E21 Episode aired 21 April 2011
    1. The episode parodies "clip shows" which used to appear occasionally on older shows. To save money, the episode would consist mainly of reused footage from earlier episodes amid a small amount of new footage used as a framing device. In this episode, the joke is that all of the "clips" consist of completely new scenes which were filmed especially for the episode, thus undermining the money saving purpose of a clip show.
    2. This is the first time we hear the joke about "Six seasons and a movie" and it's said by Abed.
    3. The group diorama includes a figure of Chang, standing outside and looking through the window. It can be seen in the final scene with Chang, in which he wears the same shirt as his miniature.
    4. Ken Jeong co-starred with Crystal the Monkey in The Hangover Part II (2011).
    5. The t-shirt Abed is wearing is an artist's rendition of the true story of Pac Man, entitled "The Madness of Mission 6".
    6. When the whole gang is asked to take a step forward to claim responsibility for burning down the house, Winger and Britta pretend to, thus tricking the rest of the group into accepting blame. This parodies "Stripes" where John Winger does the same thing to his friend.
    7. Chevy Chase's "caw-caw" (as he steals fries) is a reference to "The Three Amigos" in which he stared with Steve Martin and Martin Short (as in "caw-caw . . . Look up here, look up here . . . Whoo-whoo, you two").
    8. The scene tha had Jeff/Annie montage, was a homage to a video montage that was posted to YouTube on 15 November 2009 by a fan of the show.
    9. Abed and Troy are watching the premiere of "The Cape" (2011) when Britta barges in and demands to watch footage of riots in Tunisia. Later, Abed is seen dressed up as Vince Faraday in various clips throughout the episode. Legendary actor and voice over artist Keith David was on "The Cape" and played Faraday's nemesis: Max Malini. David would later go on to narrate in the season three episode "Pillows and Blankets" on Community. David then returned to Community as a full time cast member in season six as the VR scientist Elroy Patashnic.

    Applied Anthropology and Culinary Arts

    S02E22 Episode aired 28 April 2011
    1. In the classroom the fire alarm has been pulled, but it doesn't work. In the final scene, Troy and Abed pull a different fire alarm and it also doesn't work.
    2. In many of the background shots, the "Anus flag" can be seen that the main characters created to be the school flag earlier in the season.
    3. At 10:30, Abed is showing his knowledge of childbirth. He then explains that he knows this because, "I delivered a baby, earlier in the year, in the back of my SUV."Watching the background instead of the main and sub-plots of Community: The Psychology of Letting Go (2010), you can see Abed go through this process.
    4. After Duncan runs to "get the exam", we don't see him again until Season 5.
    5. If Shirley had conceived this baby with her husband over labor day weekend, she would be 2 months further along than if she had conceived the baby with Chang. She should have known whose baby it was based on her ob appointments.

    A Fistful of Paintballs

    S02E23 Episode aired 5 May 2011
    1. Troy is introduced into this episode when he comes out of a bin. This is a call back to the original paintball episode 'Modern Warfare' in which Annie is hiding in the bin.
    2. Abed refers to the Black Rider (Josh Holloway) as "network TV good-looking." Josh Holloway starred on the network television series Lost (2004) prior to the filming of this episode.
    3. Second time the chatterbox/fortune teller was not featured in the opening titles.
    4. Nearly all of the episodes have titles which refer both to the plot of the episode, as well as a type of college course (Spanish 101, Advanced Criminal Law, etc). Some of them even refer to their specific episode number (ex: season 1, episode 9 was Debate 109). The exceptions are Community: Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas (2010), Community: A Fistful of Paintballs (2011), and Community: For a Few Paintballs More (2011).
    5. Guest-star Anthony Michael Hall played cast-member Chevy Chase's son in National Lampoon's Vacation (1983).
    6. The title and title cards are a parody of "A Fistful of Dollars" (1964).
    7. It is revealed that the group took a vote on whether to let Pierce back into the group for the next year through the use of cards: a red card meaning he could come back, a black card for against. The names of cards (Ace of Spades, King of Spades etc) were used to introduce some of the main cast this episode, the card names presumably corresponding to their vote. Annie was the only red card, Ace of Hearts, Jeff - King of Spades, Britta-Queen of Spades, Abed - Jack of Clubs, Troy - King of Clubs, Shirley - Ace of Clubs.
    8. At the end of the episode "Red 5, standing by." is heard, alluding to the oncoming Star Wars theme of the part two follow up.

    For a Few Paintballs More

    S02E24 Episode aired 12 May 2011
    1. Busy Philipps and Dan Byrd from the TBS show Cougar Town (2009) make a quick cameo after the paintball war is over. This cameo is in reference to Abed's love for "Cougar Town" and his appearance in the background of an episode of the show.
    2. Show creator Dan Harmon can be seen on the Greendale poster used by the group as a decoy.
    3. As Winger counts down for the mass assault on the gatling gun, Vickie prematurely rushes out, yelling her name and alerting the enemy. This is a reference to the 'Leroy Jenkins' event from World of Warcraft.
    4. This episode shifts its homage from sole western to Star Wars. Troy and Abed organize a "Rebel Alliance" with their classmates. Actor Donald Glover (Troy Barnes) would later go on to portray Lando Calrissian in the 2018 Star Wars anthology film Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018).
