I'm Leslie Knope

S04E01 Episode aired 22 September 2011
  1. In the scene where Leslie and Anne are talking in Anne's office the computer bag that was a gift from Mark in season 2 is visible on the desk.
  2. Chris Pratt, who plays Andy, keeps a box labeled "The Awesome Album" at his shoe shine stand. Three years later, he would go on to play Star Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), a character who always carries a cassette tape full of music labeled "Awesome Mix Vol. 1".

Ron & Tammys

  1. The only episode where Ron Swanson has his moustache shaved.
  2. Tammy One was mentioned to have been a candy striper who helped deliver Ron Swanson and to have been the Sunday school teacher of Ron Swanson and Tammy Two. In real life, Patricia Clarkson (Tammy One) is one year younger than Megan Mullally (Tammy Two) and eleven years older than Nick Offerman.
  3. When introduced to Ben, Jean-Ralphio asks if that's his real name and declares Ben needs a better name (Angelo, then Jello Shot, then J Shot). The actor who plays Jean-Ralphio is named Ben Schwartz.

Born & Raised

S04E03 Episode aired 6 October 2011
  1. The book "Pawnee: The Greatest Town in America" written by Leslie Knope was made into a real paperback book available for purchase. It highlights some of the town's more ridiculous historical moments.
  2. The lyrics sung by the Afro-Norwegian funk-duo "Nefertiti's Fjord" are actually the first two lines from the national anthem of Norway.
  3. The briefcase that Andy grabs around 15 mins into the episode has a smiley face on one side. its a bit hard to notice as its just indented into the leather as if someone drew a face on paper while leaning on the case.
  4. It is a common mistake that Alexandra Daddario was one of Joan Callamezzo's "Gotcha Dancers" in this episode.
  5. Andy breaking the computer monitor when he jumped over the counter at the county records office was actually an accident. The look of shock from Amy Poehler was real, and they decided to use that take.

    End of the World

    S04E06 Episode aired 3 November 2011
    1. One of the items on Andy's Bucket List is to become an action star. Chris Pratt would go on to start in multiple action films, most notably the "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Jurassic World" franchises.
    2. Early in the episode Leslie mentions how April and Jerry would never hang out, but later Jerry is shown hanging out with Andy, April, and April's sister, Natalie.

    The Treaty

    1. Leslie emulates Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev's infamous 1960 shoe banging incident at the UN.
    2. In this episode Kelly Washington plays Cassidy, the student delegate for France. Kelly returns to the show in a later episode (season 6, episode 18, "Prom"), this time playing the role of a promising student internship candidate named Allison Gliffert.

    1. When Chris holds up the Parks and Recreation logo sign to Tom and Jerry to assign them to redesign the logo, the logo on the sign is actually the show's logo.

    The Trial of Leslie Knope

    S04E09 Episode aired 1 December 2011
    1. Leslie mentions having a picture of Bella Abzug on her desk. A picture of Abzug is also visible on the wall of her house in episode 14 of season 2.
    2. The portrait on the wall of the Pawnee hearing room of the man whose face was scarred by an explosion is actually a retouched 1859 self-portrait of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, a French painter (1780 - 1867).

    Citizen Knope

    1. Both of Ben's job interviews were with characters who had previously appeared: Barney first appeared in season 2 as a Rec Center instructor, then was on the telethon; Dennis Feinstein is the man Tom tried to sell his scent to in season 3.
    2. When Leslie is given her ID back, the ID shows that she is an essential employee as previously seen when the government shut down and she was raised from non-essential.

    1. Gary gives his social security number over the phone during the phone campaign. He starts with "210," which means that he was born in Pennsylvania. Indiana's social security numbers start with 303-317.

    1. April mentions that Andy bought novelty cookie cutters instead of gas and now everything they eat is shaped like dinosaurs. Chris Pratt, who plays Andy, later went on to star in Jurassic World, a movie about dinosaurs
    2. Adam Scott and Martin Starr both acted on tv show Party Down.
    3. while on the scavenger hunt, Ben goes to the snow globe museum. Leslie hid a clue there; however she said in a previous episode that she had been banned from the snow globe museum due to shaking the snow globes. Ben also picks up many of the snow globes to look for the clue.

      1. Chris (Rob Lowe) has taught Champion the dog commands in German and tries to teach Andy (Chris Pratt) how to speak them to the dog. Andy attempts but just speaks gibberish. In real life, Chris Pratt is fluent in German.
      2. Chris Traeger (Rob Lowe) does an impression of John F. Kennedy when talking about Champion the dog. Rob Lowe played John F. Kennedy in Killing Kennedy (2013).
      3. The season (4) and episode (16) numbers coincide with Jerry's leap year birthday, with his birthday landing on leap day every 4 years and this episode cerebrates his "16th" birthday
      4. Leslie unknowingly has a lollipop stuck to the back of her sweater. In an episode of Arrested Development Will Arnett, Amy Poehler's husband at the time, also unknowingly has pieces of candy stuck to the back of his clothes.
      5. Andy asks Leslie for her signature by saying he needs her Herbie Hancock. This is a reference to a line from "Tommy Boy". Rob Lowe was in "Tommy Boy".

      1. The news paper in Arabic head bulletin reads: Washington sales Saudi Arabia F15 Jet planes in the mist of World war 3 within the gulf region, Israel and Palestin to held peace talks in Jordan with Qatar monitoring.
      2. Kathryn Hahn and Adam Scott previously appeared together in the film Step Brothers.
      3. Kathryn Hahn and Nick Offerman would later appear together in We're the Millers (2013).

      Lucky

      1. Eddie Pepitone auditioned for the role of an airport worker but was unhappy with the part and turned it down.

      Live Ammo

      S04E19 Episode aired 19 April 2012
      1. Bradley Whitford plays a town councilman - in his office is a framed cocktail napkin with "Pillner for Pawnee". This is a nod to Whitford's former character Josh Lyman in The West Wing (1999), where a cocktail napkin with "Bartlet for America" was a key plot device.
      2. Both Rob Lowe and Bradley Whitford had leading roles in another show about the government, The West Wing.
      3. Ben is seen in this episode holding a copy of the "Journal and Courier" newspaper. This is a salute to the real life Lafayette, Indiana newspaper upon which the often cited "Pawnee Journal" is based.
      4. Councilman Pilner (Bradley Whitford) says the line, "We play with live ammo around here.". This is a line directly from The West Wing (a show in which Whitford and Lowe stared together) said by Rob Lowe's character, Sam Seaborn. The episode also draws its title, 'Live Ammo,' from this line.
      5. Chelsea Peretti who plays Zelda in this episode also co-wrote this episode and is credited as story editor on the series.

      The Debate

      1. While preparing for the debate, Leslie is nervous. Ben then measures the podium, informing her that it is 4ft. Exactly the same size as her podium at city hall. A reference to another Indiana film, "Hoosiers".
      2. As Ron climbs the telephone pole, he sings 'Wichita Lineman,' a song inspired by telephone pole maintenance crew (linemen).
      3. The first scene Andy describes is a fight scene between Patrick Swayze (Dalton) and Marshall Teague (Jimmy) from Road House (1989). The last scenes he describes are scenes between Sylvester Stallone (Rambo) and some missionaries from Rambo (2008)

      Bus Tour

      S04E21 Episode aired 3 May 2012
      1. When the press asks for her response to the death of Bobby Newport's dad, she replies, "Bummer." This is a reference to the response that Paul McCartney gave the press when asked for his reaction to the death of John Lennon.
      2. The mansion used for the Nick Newport residence is the same mansion portrayed as the Clampett home in "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1993).

      Win, Lose, or Draw

      S04E22 Episode aired 10 May 2012
      1. Other candidates on the ballot are Phon Du (fondue), Martin Lockheed and Tina Nabisco.
      2. Leslie's ballot is the infamous butterfly ballot that was used in Palm Beach County in 2000.
      3. When adult film star Brandi Maxxxx gets an early lead in the election, Leslie Knope comments "What is this, Italy?", this is a reference to Ilona Staller, a Hungarian-Italian porn star who was elected to the Italian parliament in 1987.
      4. After Ann asks him to get back together, Tom calls himself "Nastrathomas". This is a reference to rapper Nas's album "Nastradamus"
