Never Meet Your Heroes
S01E01 Episode aired Nov 24, 2021
- In the comics, Jack Duquesne is known as the Swordsman and knew Hawkeye when he was a youth. The character was a villain in the early days of The Avengers comics. In the comics, the Swordsman was also romantically involved with Mantis.
- The stage musical, "Rogers," is a reference to an actual aborted 1980s project for a Captain America stage musical.
- The first time in the MCU that reference is made to Clint Barton being hard of hearing.
- Ant-Man being in the Avengers-themed musical (despite not being involved in the Battle of New York) is probably a reference to the fact that original Ant-Man, Hank Pym, was a founding member of the Avengers in the comics. Unlike, ironically, Captain America, who wasn't saved from the ice until after the group was formed.
- The bell tower that Kate targets is named Stane Tower, which is a tribute to Iron Man villain Obadiah Stane.
- The apartments Kate is shown entering are named Stane, possibly for Obadiah Stane, the villain in Iron Man (2008).
- The music for "Rogers: The Musical" was composed by Marc Shaiman with lyrics by Scott Whitman, the same team who wrote the songs for 'Hairspray' and 'Mary Poppins Returns.'
- The charity auction location is in the Palace Hotel, also used for the filming of Gossip Girl.
- In Angels in America, Simon Callow plays another character, Pryor Walter #2, who also takes pride in being a man in a long line of men with the same name.
- This episode starts during the events of the Chitauri invasion of New York, lead by Loki in 'Avengers Assemble' (2012). It then continues after the events of 'Avengers: Endgame' (2019) and, we can assume, the end credits scene of 'Black Widow' (2021) and concurrently with 'The Falcon And The Winter Soldier' (2021), 'Loki' (2021) and 'WandaVision' (2021). There is also a brief flashback when Hawkeye watches the news and he recalls his time as "Ronin" during "The Blip" that occurred after Thanos snapped his fingers, wiping out the rest of the Barton family in 'Avengers: Infinity War' (2018). The scene is taken from Endgame, when Black Widow recruits him to help change things back*. We can understand from this flashback and the news report that he was acting as "Ronin" to bring a number of underworld criminals to justice and that this story is likely to cover the repercussions of his actions. *That is why his sword and Ronin outfit could be found in the rubble of the Avengers base to be sold at auction. He had changed back in to his 'Hawkeye' gear for the final fight in Endgame. It was never acknowledged vocally that he was Ronin during that time until this episode.
Hide and Seek
S01E02 Episode aired Nov 24, 2021
- Kate's aunt is named Moira Brandon. In the comics, Brandon is an aged former film actress who sold her home to the Avengers for use as their west coast headquarters. After helping Hawkeye and Mockingbird on a case she is made an honorary Avenger. The large film posters in the apartment are for fake movies Brandon starred in.
- Kate's aunt's apartment has a mezuzah on the door, meaning she's jewish.
- First appearing in Hawkeye (Vol. 4) #14, Detective Caudle was a detective for the Santa Monica Police Department portrayed as a bald white male. Kate Bishop constantly bothered him when she was trying to bring Flynt Ward to justice. At one point in the investigation, Caudle threatened to arrest her because of her persistent meddling. Ward was eventually arrested but Caudle had a sinking feeling that their "charmingly antagonistic relationship" would not end after that case.
- Kate's aunt's place ten blocks away is the same building that Natalie Portman's character, Mathilda, lived in with her family in Léon: The Professional (1994). Kate's aunt's apartment door is Mathilda's family apartment door. The interior of the apartment building is the Hotel Chelsea, the hotel where Jean Reno's character Leon lived. Kate points out and even pushes the ringer button for Leon's apartment, 6D, in her random button pushing to get someone to unlock the outer door while pretending to be a pizza delivery. The small grocery store attached to the building where Leon bought milk is now a hardware store in Hawkeye.
- Hawkeye and Kate Bishop encounter a street performer dressed as Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games (2012). Hailee Steinfeld (Kate) was a top contender for the role of Katniss in the film adaptation.
- The heads and silver robot in the poster for fictitious movie "Creature of the Dark Galaxy" are taken from the cover of February 1953 "Space Science Fiction" magazine.
- Kate makes a reference to Clint's heart shrinking three sizes, a reference to the Grinch in The Grinch Who Stole Christmas or How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
- Kate mentions the Earl of Sandwich, the Earl of Sandwich is a noble title in the Peerage of England, nominally associated with Sandwich, Kent, England and created in 1660 for naval commander Admiral Sir Edward Montagu. The hand meal 'sandwich' is named after its supposed inventor, John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich. (He wanted to eat while playing cards. Slices of beef between bread prevented greasy fingers).

S01E03 Episode aired Dec 1, 2021
- A substantial excerpt of the car chase scene was previewed in Marvel Studios' 2021 Disney+ Day Special (2021). At the start, when Clint and Kate are arguing about which one of them will do the driving, at one point Kate's dialogue is muffled to indicate Clint's hearing problem. In the preview version, this dialogue was audible and her words are: "No, you... you drive, I shoot."
- Hawkeye uses an arrow labeled Pym to grow another arrow to gigantic proportions. In the comics, for a while Hawkeye gave up being an archer to become Goliath. He drank Pym's formula to change size.
- Darnell Besaw (young Maya Lopez) and Alaqua Cox (Maya Lopez/Echo) are cousins in real life. While Alaqua is deaf, Darnell isn't, but she learned ASL for the show.
- When Kate draws a new costume for Clint, it's his original purple costume, worn when he first appeared as a villain for Iron-Man in "Tales of Suspense." Kate also mentions a hood, which might be a wink at Green Arrow (DC's archer, preceding Hawkeye by decades), or it may be an allusion to the Ronin suit (as a way of inducing Clint to spill more information about Ronin's true identity).
- In the comics, Maya Lopez was first introduced in Daredevil #9, Dec. 1999. Her father was killed by Wilson Fisk in the comics, rather than Ronin as shown here. She is raised by Fisk who honors his promise to her father, which is not shown in the episode.
- The music that plays during the car chase scene is "Mad Russians Christmas" by Trans Siberian Orchestra.
- The USB arrow has appeared twice. The first time was in The Avengers (2012) when Clint used a USB arrow to hack and disable the computers on the SHIELD helicarrier. More recently it appeared in an episode of What If...? (2021).
- Kate has a conversation with one of the Tracksuit Mafia goons about the music group Imagine Dragons. They sing the main theme for the animated series Arcane (2021) in which Hailee Steinfeld voices the character of Vi.
- Maya's "Uncle" in the karate academy could be the long-rumored entry of Kingpin (a.k.a Wilson Fisk) into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Kingpin previously appeared in the Marvel Netlfix show Daredevil (2015) and was portrayed by Vincent D'Onofrio. If these rumors are true, Kingpin would be the first Marvel Netflix character to crossover into the main Marvel universe. While Marvel Netflix show-runners have confirmed that all Marvel Netlfix series take place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many fans have debated this due to the lack of interaction and acknowledgment between the Marvel Netflix shows and the main Marvel universe. If Kingpin is introduced, it would confirm that the Marvel Netflix shows are canon to the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. It also would add credence the rumor that Charlie Cox will be appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) as Matt Murdock/Daredevil.
- As per the previous trivia, the "uncle" pinching Maya cheek is The Kingpin, that is Vincent D'Onofrio laugh that we can hear.
Partners, Am I Right?
S01E04 Episode aired Dec 8, 2021
- The song playing in the background when Kate is being fitted for an outfit by the Larpers is "Bells, Bells, Bells" from the 1980 Star Wars Christmas Album "Christmas in the Stars", performed by Anthony Daniels in character as C-3PO.
- The musical theme of Natasha Romanoff's death scene from Avengers: Endgame (2019) can be heard twice. First when Clint tells Kate about his best shot, and later when he wants to pull Kate up after she fell from the roof.
- Clint is seen drinking out of a coffee mug that says "Thanos was right". That same phrase appeared as graffiti on a urinal in the first episode.
- On the morning after the "ugly sweater party", when Clint tells Kate to go see the LARPers, she's wearing a white shirt commemorating the first living being to orbit Earth (and die there), the dog Laika on the Soviet spacecraft Sputnik 2. On her shirt, there's a stylized picture of a dog in a spacecraft. The inscription is "Laika" in Cyrillic script.
- Yelena Belova's theme from Black Widow (2021) is played when she takes off her mask.
- Florence Pugh returns as Yelena Belova. This is her first appearance since her introduction in Black Widow (2021).
- Black Widow's (Scarlett Johansson) death scene is shown from Avengers: Endgame (2019). (Time Stamp: 19:08)
Ronin
S01E05 Episode aired Dec 15, 2021
- Yelena makes her favorite childhood dish of Mac N' Cheese from Black Widow (2021) for herself and Kate.
- Series is confirmed to take place in December 2024 in the episode about a year after the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019) which was 2023.
- As the Track Suit Mafia goons are driving the fake moving truck, they are jamming to "Christmas in Hollis" by Run-DMC, similar to the film Die Hard, which also featured bad guys driving a fake moving truck.
- The Sacrifice theme from Avengers: Endgame (2019) is heard when Clint looks at the memorial and speaks to Natasha. Yelena Belova's theme from Black Widow (2021) is also heard throughout the episode.
- This episode marks the first crossover appearance of an actor from one of the Netflix Marvel series to appear on a Disney Plus series. It reveals Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin and was released on Charlie Cox's birthday who played Matt Murdock/Daredevil opposite D'Onofrio's Kingpin on the Netflix show.
- Vincent D'Onofrio reprises his role as Kingpin (a.k.a Wilson Fisk) from Marvel Netflix's Daredevil (2015). Kingpin is the first Marvel Netflix character to appear in the main Marvel universe. (To avoid spoilers for other Marvel properties, the second Marvel Netflix character to appear in the main Marvel universe will not be mentioned.) Despite the Marvel Netflix showrunners confirming that all Marvel Netflix shows take place within the main Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), many fans have debated whether or not this is true due to the lack of interaction and acknowledgment between Marvel Netflix and the main MCU. With the introduction of Kingpin and the other Marvel Netflix character into the main MCU, the Marvel Netflix series are now officially canon to the main MCU.
- The intro of this episode shows that Yelena was a victim of Thanos' snap
So This Is Christmas?
S01E06 Episode aired Dec 22, 2021
- The scene where Hawkeye faces off with an owl in the Rockefeller Christmas Tree: Hawkeye was shot in NYC in December 2020 (through April 2021). The tree brought to Rockefeller Center for Christmas 2020 famously did bring with it a tiny adult male saw-whet owl, nicknamed Rocky, who traveled 170 miles with the 75-foot Norway spruce from Oneonta in upstate NY. Rocky was rescued from the tree and sent to Ravensbeard Wildlife Center.
- Marc Shaiman, a composer known for Smash (2012), Hairspray (2007), Mary Poppins Returns (2018) and South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999) (not to mention the song "Save the Day" from this series) has a cameo as the conductor of Rogers: The Musical.
- In chapter 4, as they are decorating the tree/discussing trick arrows. Clint told Kate that it's possible to split an arrow in half, (first arrow has to be wooden so that the first is split by the second arrow) and says he's done it a couple of times. In this episode, he demonstrates this feat, using this shot to take down 2 guys with the split arrow. Kazi catches the third arrow.
- Shortly after they enter the party, Clint asks Kate to list all the threats and assets at the party. First threat she mentions is Gary, the only person who ever fired her. Gary was the Catering Captain in episode 1. Kate disguised herself as a caterer to try to sneak into the underground auction.
- One of the actors featured in the "Save the City" number from "Rogers: The Musical" (the one who opens his shirt to reveal the "I love New York" tee underneath) is Adam Pascal, who played Roger in both the original Broadway cast and film adaptation of 'Rent.'
- The back of Laura's watch has a S.H.I.E.L.D. logo and the number 19. In the comics, Bobbi Morse (a.k.a Mockingbird) was S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent 19. She was at one point married to Clint Barton. Bobbi Morse was played by Adrianne Palicki on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
- There's a mid-credits scene that shows the full musical number from the first episode .
- This episode features both Yelena Belova's theme and Natasha Romanoff's theme from Black Widow (2021), composed by Lorne Balfe.
