- The tape cartridge Michael found and is trying to read (which he incorrectly calls a "tape drive") is a digital linear tape (DLT). DLT was introduced in 1984 and continued through several generations of technology. New development ended in 2007.
- When David is trying to sneak out of the house, he mispronounces a medication called neurontin as 'neurotonin', even though the subtitles spell it correctly. Neurontin, trade name Gabapentin, is a medication used to treat epilepsy, depression and, more commonly, nerve pain.

- At one point, Kendra says "I've done the math." This is in reference to Navi Rawat's role as mathematician Amita Ramanujan in Numb3rs (2005), which ended shortly before her appearances on Burn Notice.
- Sam says to Michael at about 6 minutes 20 seconds "don't let him slip you any wooden nickels" - An American adage, "Don't take any wooden nickels" is considered a lighthearted reminder to be cautious in one's dealings.

- When Michael Westen reveals his driver's license, the picture is actually a photo of 'Jeffery Donovan''s character in Touching Evil (2004), a USA network show he starred in previous to "Burn Notice".
- According to his driver's license, Michael's birthday is Jan. 7, 1967.
- When Paul pulls out the driver's license for his new alias, "Paul Vandermark", the birthday (02-11) is Burt Reynolds actual birthday. Only the year is different (Burt was born in 1936, not 1953).
- Paul Anderson, the name of the character Burt Reynolds plays, is the name of the director of Boogie Nights (1997), in which Burt Reynolds starred.

- On Sam's prison uniform the last name "Campbell" is sewn into the name strip, clearly a reference to the actor who plays Sam: Bruce Campbell.
- In this episode, Juan Ruiz (Sam's asset in Prison) is played by Gabrielle Anwar's Ex husband
- Many of the actors who play Burn Notice's villains also played Terminators on film. Garret Dillahunt played Simon Escher on Burn Notice, after a recurring role as the evil Terminator on 'Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles'. Robert Patrick shot to fame after playing the evil Terminator in Terminator 2: Judgement Day; he joins the cast of Burn Notice as the villainous John Barrett. Terminator Salvation actress Moon Bloodgood plays Michael's nemesis Michelle Paxton in Season 3 of Burn Notice.
- Michael's dilemma of needing to break out of prison, very much resembles the circumstances of the main character (of the same name) from the series "Prison Break." In both instances, Michael needed to escape through the prison infirmary and his biggest obstacle was dealing with the locked door. Both were assisted by their girlfriends to that end.
