- When discussing the photos of Roy (wherein his ex-girlfriend has been photoshopped out) Moss quips 'It's like someone broke up with Stalin'. Under Josef Stalin's oppressive rule, it was alarmingly common for those who fell out of favor with the Communist regime would simply disappear, and all records of their existence would be doctored or erased. Most notably, these people were often edited out of photographs, leaving obvious gaps where a person once stood.
- Dolly Wells, who plays Miranda the feminist, previously played Paula the model in The IT Crowd: The Dinner Party (2007).
- Roy says getting over his girlfriend will be 'simples'. This is referring to Compare the Market's 'Compare the Meerkat' ads, which feature a Russian meerkat whose catchphrase was 'Simples!'
- Roy's T-Shirt in this episode is a black r-Shirt with white font saying "NO."

- Moss's cool "I came here to drink milk and kick ass. And I've just finished my milk" is a nod to John Carpenter's They Live (1988) where Nada, the protagonist says "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum" upon entering a bank to shoot aliens.
- Gemma Chan and Katherine Parkinson also appear together in TV show Humans (2015).
- Roy's t-shirt in this episode is blue with a picture of a vintage orange tv set.

- Sweet Billy Pilgrim are an actual English genre-spanning band that adopted their name from the main character in the Kurt Vonnegut's novel Slaughterhouse-Five.
- The exterior of the theater where Sweet Billy Pilgrim plays is the same theater in The IT Crowd: The Work Outing (2007) where 'Gay, the Gay Musical' was performed.
- Roy wears a T-shirt that says 'LET'S SAY YOU'VE GONE BACK IN TIME'. Chris O'Dowd was in Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel (2009), a film where he and his friends travel in time.
- In Douglas' video, after he says "Every star you can see in the night sky is a wish that has come true", five bell notes form the alien motif from Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977).
- Roy's work t-shirt in this episode is a ginger cat, wearing a blue top, playing an electric piano.

- At around 12:50, the cup that Roy is holding is from the milkshake company Shakeaway. In order the cover the brand's name, a piece of red tape has been placed around the top of the cup.
Reynholm vs Reynholm

- The suit that Douglas Reynholm makes and wears to court is a nod to the one that Heather Mills wore for her final day in court during her divorce from Sir Paul McCartney.
- Belinda Stewart-Wilson played Mr Denholm's wife and Dougla's step-mother, Barbara, in The IT Crowd: Return of the Golden Child (2007) and played Douglas's wife, Victoria, in this episode.
- Gemma Chan and Katherine Parkinson would later star together in Humans (2015).
