Season 3

Table of Contents

From Hell

S03E01 Episode aired Nov 21, 2008
  1. Creator Graham Linehan appealed to fans for old computers to 'litter the main set' in the third season. The Centre for Computing History took this request to the extreme and offered a collection of computers from the 1970s and 1980s. They included an Altair 8800, Oric Atmos, Amstrad CPC 464, Sinclair ZX81, Sinclair ZX Spectrum +2, Commodore 64, Commodore PET, Atari ST, Sord M5, Acorn RISC PC600, BBC Model B, an Astro Wars game and circuit boards from a Wang VS mainframe.
  2. Roy's T-shirt is a Venn diagram with legend 'music I like' and 'music you like' overlapping to give 'music I used to like'.
  3. The near-death scene where Douglas sees his father Denholm in the afterlife contains the only moment in the series where the two are on screen together.
  4. When Douglas asks Moss to call an ambulance, Moss briefly starts to sing the new, absurdly long emergency services number from "Calamity Jen" (2006).

Are We Not Men?

S03E02 Episode aired Nov 28, 2008
  1. The card Michael pulls from the hat during his failed trick is the three of clubs. This is the default card of choice for magicians Penn & Teller who chose it as being the most boring card in a deck.
  2. Seventeen police cars raid the robbers' hideout.
  3. The phrase "Are we not men?" is from the novel "The Island of Doctor Moreau" (1896) by H. G. Wells. It is part of the litany of the Law, spoken by the Speaker of the Law to the Beast Folk, creatures surgically force-evolved by the mad doctor.

Tramps Like Us

S03E03 Episode aired Dec 5, 2008
  1. When Roy loses his jacket (and ID and money) and is thrown out of his building, he wanders the streets, mostly in and around Northcote Road, Battersea, London; but at one point as he asks a passerby for "50p for a phone call", the building behind him (13 Tottenham Street) indicates that scene was recorded in Fitzrovia, London, some 5 miles away from Battersea.
  2. Katherine Parkinson (Jen) and Lucy Robinson (June) also appeared together on the TV show, "Doc Martin": Doc Martin: The Holly Bears a Prickle (2007).

The Speech

S03E04 Episode aired Dec 12, 2008
  1. When Douglas is interviewed and asked why he likes Churchill, he says "I just like the way he goes, 'Ah, yes. Ah, yes'". This is a reference to the Churchill insurance commercials, which feature a talking bulldog bobblehead for a mascot.
  2. The t-shirt Roy wears during Jen's speech is for the Overlook Hotel. This is the hotel from the Shining.
  3. Widely regarded as the best episode of the entire 25 episodes of The IT Crowd.
  4. When introducing the shareholders to the Internet, Jen describes the chaos that would erupt if anything should happened to it. In part she warns that, "society would tear itself apart like an angry child with a napkin". Then, during the ensuing melee, there is a very brief shot of a child literally tearing a napkin to pieces.

Friendface

S03E05 Episode aired Dec 19, 2008
  1. Roy's first T-shirt (which says "We can live. We can both live") is from the cult sci-fi movie Robot Jox (1989). The second is from the comic series 'Savage'; the main character, Bill Savage, says 'Laugh it off, Twinkletoes' before he shoots someone.
  2. This is the first episode to parody major brands, such as Facebook (Friendface) and Coca-Cola/Coke (Cuke).
  3. 'Friendface' is an obvious spoof of Facebook.
  4. At the reunion while pretending to be Jen's husband, Moss says that he is a professional tennis player and that he and Jen have two lovely children named Zeneth and Quazar. He also claims that Jen was the first ginger woman on the cover of Newsweek and that she has a bionic arm.

Calendar Geeks

S03E06 Episode aired Dec 26, 2008
  1. Due to a last-minute script change, additional calendar geeks were needed at short notice, so writer Graham Linehan invited real-life software developers - Rik Heywood and Tim Browse - who'd previously worked together on Starship Titanic (1998) to play the parts. A copy of the game itself can be spotted on the shelves, and the 3D glasses on Moss's desk were used during the game's development.
  2. The poster on Jen's door is a meme that says, 'I are serious cat. Please you step into my office now'.
