Table of Contents

The Work Outing

S02E01 Episode aired Aug 24, 2007
  1. Richard Ayoade's wife Lydia Fox plays Laura Knightley, the musical actress.
  2. When the cast is looking at the poster for 'Gay', the names of Graham Linehan, Jamie Glazebrook, and other members of the production crew are listed in the credits for the musical.
  3. Producer Ash Atalla (a wheelchair user) appears as 'rampant gay man' in this episode involving wheelchairs.
  4. Moss hears Jen and Roy debating whether Phillip is gay and, jumping to a false conclusion, says 'Everyone knows. And what's more he's been gay since Wham'. Moss is referring to George Michael, whose sexual orientation was a subject of speculation until 1998 when he was arrested in an L.A. public restroom for lewd behavior.
  5. The facade of the New Wimbledon Theatre was used for the outside shot of the "Gay!" musical venue. It is the same theatre used in The IT Crowd: Something Happened (2010).
  6. Katherine Parkinson (Jen Barber) and Jamie Michie (Philip) later worked together briefly in Humans: Episode #1.8 (2015). They play Laura Hawkins and Constable respectively.
  7. Before the group leaves for the theatre Jen suggests they walk instead of taking a cab, to which Roy replies that he doesn't like walking. Later in the episode Roy fakes being disabled after being caught in the handicap bathroom and is rolled around in a wheelchair.

Return of the Golden Child

S02E02 Episode aired Aug 31, 2007
  1. Matt Berry, who plays Douglas Reynholm, is only nine years younger than Christopher Morris, who plays his father, Denholm Reynholm.
  2. At around 1 minute as Denholm is speaking to his staff, a spider can be seen between him and the camera quickly ascending up its web. It starts at the bottom right half of the screen and up to the top right corner from Denholm's brown jacket ascending over his left shoulder.
  3. The painting that Douglas has on his office wall behind his chair (the one with the many vertical and horizontal line segments) is a print of one of Piet Mondrian's abstract paintings of a tree (the line segments represent branches and twigs).
  4. Roy's T-Shirt with the "I see dumb people" caption is a geekish reference to The Sixth Sense (1999) whose catch phrase is "I see dead people".
  5. Denholm Reynholm's widow, Barbara, is played by Belinda Stewart-Wilson, who also plays the estranged wife of his son, Douglas in series 4 and 5.
  6. The website predicts that Roy will die on May 3rd, which Roy says is a Thursday. This means that the year in which the episode is set must be 2007 which is the original transmission date.

Moss and the German

S02E03 Episode aired Sep 7, 2007
  1. During the closing credits Philip Rahm, a professional cellist who plays the German, plays the show's theme song on cello.
  2. The doorbell chime of the German's home is "The Chicken Dance"
  3. In the background of Roy's tiny apartment, a sheet of paper can be seen taped to the wall that says "Home Sewing Is Killing Fashion and it's Illegal". It is a geekish reference to an early anti-piracy campaign of the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) from back in the 80's. The British music industry trade group spread the slogan "Home Taping Is Killing Music". With the rise in cassette recorder popularity, the BPI feared that the ability of private citizens to record music from the radio onto cassettes would cause a decline in record sales. The logo, consisting of a Jolly Roger formed from the silhouette of a Compact Cassette, also included the words "And It's Illegal". Music and video "piracy" are of course staples of the geek lifestyle.
  4. In one scene with Jen, you can see Moss reading 'Mustard Magazine', a cult comedy magazine that IT Crowd writer Graham Linehan reads in real life.
  5. The plot mimics a real-life incident in which a German man, Armin Meiwes, posted an ad online looking for a willing victim to kill and eat. Moss places added emphasis on the fact that he was never in danger of being eaten by the German, as he would not give his consent. Meiwes' eventual victim had indeed given him consent to murder and cannibalize him.
  6. Moss states that the German is a "fine young cannibal". The Fine Young Cannibals were a British band in the 1980's best known for their 1989 hit "She Drives Me Crazy".

The Dinner Party

S02E04 Episode aired Sep 14, 2007
  1. The song that is playing on a stereo that Jen turns down and then back up at very end of the episode is Game of Pricks by the band Guided By Voices.
  2. Dolly Wells, who played Paula the model, also played Miranda the feminist in The IT Crowd: Jen the Fredo (2010).
  3. In 2013, Miranda (2009) aired an episode called Miranda: The Dinner Party (2013) with a similar scene wherein the hostess asks everyone to behave naturally only to have them strike odd poses and then take up even weirder ones after she re-emphasizes being normal. Sarah Hadland was at both dinner parties (as different characters).
  4. The Peter File joke is directly focused on the British pronunciation of 'paedophile' while the American is 'pedophile'. In fact, Moss thinks that Peter File should move to America.
  5. In this episode, a running joke is that Peter File's name sounds similar to 'paedophile'. In Brass Eye: Paedophilia (2001), written by and starring Christopher Morris (who played Denholm Reynholm in this series), a man called Peter File is attacked after being mistaken for a paedophile.

Smoke and Mirrors

S02E05 Episode aired Sep 21, 2007
  1. Moss being mistakenly interviewed live on BBC News 24 after a mixup over his name is a reference to an infamous incident in 2006. Guy Goma, who was at the BBC studio for a job interview, was accidentally interviewed on the live news channel after being mistaken for IT expert Guy Kewney.

Men Without Women

S02E06 Episode aired Sep 28, 2007
  1. Moss notes that while Jen was working for Douglas, they replaced her with an answering machine called Jen-Two. Gentoo is a very popular Linux Operating system developed in 2002.
  2. The blind Irish sorcerer is Graham Linehan, the creator and director of the series.
  3. The Reynholm Industries commercial shows video of the city of Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.
  4. While at first glance it appears that Douglas' PC desktop has four massive icons in it, on looking closer it is a standard Windows desktop with a row of icons on the left and the "Reynholm Industries" logo four times, as though the desktop wallpaper repeats rather than being centered or scaled.
