If this is a flashback to one of Robin's breakups BS (Before Stinson), then Simon must have only briefly cleaned up and then moved back to Canada and regained weight after running into Robin. Maybe just a plot hole.
- The man who does a short rap sequence on the bus, Lin Manuel Miranda, also guest starred on House M.D. His character on House also tried to rap
- Although she has no lines in Barney's story, the girl in Barney leaves in bed is the college professor Ted goes on a date with.

- "Truth Serum Drunk" Barney gives the answer "Yes, but not while she was Secretary of State" and "Yes, but not while SHE was Secretary of State" to two questions we don't hear. - One of the first things Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) says when "Truth Serum Drunk" is that Ted (Josh Radnor) is taller than him, he wears lifts in all his shoes. In reality, Neil Patrick Harris actually is taller than Josh Radnor. Neil Patrick Harris is 6' 0". Josh Radnor is 5' 11.5".
How Your Mother Met Me
S09E16 Episode aired 27 January 2014
- This episode is the 200th of the series.
- This is the highest rated episode in the entire series, although tied with Season 2s Slap Bet
- In the scene where Louis and Tracy meet, you can see signs seeing "Save the Arcadian" in the background.
- The lottery reference that the mother states to Louis, is also mentioned by Ted in season 1 The Return of the Shirt.
- The "Save the Arcadian" posters show where Tracy's timeline aligns with Ted's. When she met Louis, he had just met Zoey.
- Prior to Cristin Mililoti's fame with HIMYM, she was best known for her performances on Broadway, where her singing and acting garnered high praise.
- The scene where The Mother plays "La Vie en rose" on the balcony is an allusion to the scene from "Breakfast at Tiffany's" where Audrey Hepburn played the ukulele in the window, singing "Moon River". Hepburn also sang "La Vie en rose" in the movie "Sabrina".
- Toward the end of the episode, right after the mother goes outside to pray for advice from her ex-boyfriend who had passed away, the piano melody quotes The Cure's "Just Like Heaven." This was also the end credit song for the very first episode of the series.
- When the picture of Tracy and Louis at the bar is shown, Robin can be seen in the background laughing on the left side.
- In the original airing, the scenes at the club on St. Patrick's Day were said to take place in April of 2008. Despite St. Patrick's Day actually being on March 17th each year. This mistake was soon noticed by producers and was amended to say, "March 2008" in later airings.
- Jason Segel wrote and sang the lyrics to "Marshall and the Machines" following the encouraging words of his first director Judd Apatow, who told him only original content would make him a success in the future (Segel has since also written for The Muppets, the Five-Year Engagement and Forgetting Sarah Marshall).
- This is not the first occasion where cast members employed their musical talents. Unlike other sitcoms that bring in singing voice-overs for main cast members, much of the HIMYM cast have lent their own vocal talents on occasion.
- When The Mother speaks to Max, she apologizes for interrupting Max and his father playing baseball. This is a reference to the movie "Field of Dreams", which has previously been established (along with the original Star Wars Trilogy) as one of Ted's favorite movies.
- Neil Patrick Harris and Josh Radnor lent their musical talents in "Time Travelers' For the Longest Time". In addition, Neil Patrick Harris has appeared on Broadway on multiple occasions, even winning a Tony Award for his performance in "Hedwing and the Angry Inch" and was the lead in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.
- The song The Mother sings as an English muffin, is a parody of the song "One" from the Broadway musical "A Chorus Line".
- This is the fifth episode to have an alternative title sequence after "Pilot", "Hopeless", "46 Minutes" and "Bedtime Stories". This one shows the Mother and her gang, which includes Louis, Cindy, Darren and Kelly, who may be another member of the Mother's band.
- In the Pilot episode, Yasmin - the Lebanese girl - is sitting next to Barney; however in the recreation of the scene she isn't there.
- In the season nine episode, "How Your Mother Met Me", there are "Save the Arcadian" posters on the wall behind Tracy when she is loading equipment in the car.
- Ted was wearing a sweater outside while listening to the Mother playing the ukulele, the next scene Ted is wearing a shirt.
- When the mom is in Ted's class, he announces the class is architecture 101. Shortly after, she scrambles to leave and once outside, she realized she was in the correct class and is shown rushing back. However, at the same time, we see Ted rush by to get to his class. In the original episode, Ted continues to teach for 20 minutes before he's kicked out. This means the mom was wandering outside for 20 minutes before realizing she was in the correct class, which may not seem believable since she simply had to look at her schedule.
- When The Mother meets Louis, who helps her load her music equipment in her van, she calls him "Superman". Louis is played by Lou Ferrigno, Jr., son of Lou Ferrigno, who played another superhero, The Incredible Hulk (1978).
- This is the second time the title parodies other people.
- This episode's title is a pun on the series' title.
- The show's opening theme song and the photos displayed during it differ in only four episodes throughout nine seasons. How I Met Your Mother: Hopeless (2011) shows the main characters playing various instruments, How I Met Your Mother: Bedtime Stories (2013) is played to the tune of a music box, How I Met Your Mother: 46 Minutes (2012) excludes Lily (Alyson Hannigan) and Marshall (Jason Segel) after they move to the suburbs with new photos of Ted (Josh Radnor) and Robin (Cobie Smulders) looking annoyed with Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and How I Met Your Mother: How Your Mother Met Me (2014) shows Tracy (Cristin Milioti) with several of her friends.
