- There are 128 episodes between the original Slutty Pumpkin episode and this one.
- This episode features two songs parodied by 'Weird Al' Yankovic, who appeared in the previous episode How I Met Your Mother: Noretta (2011). Barenaked Ladies' 'One Week' became Yankovic's 'Jerry Springer' and James Brown's 'Living in America' is parodied as 'Living with a Hernia'.

- Last episode in which Barney appears without a suit.

- The opening Barney action sequence contains a couple of nods to Indiana Jones: the man wearing the fez in the alley and the rescuing of the young boy referred to by Barney as "the kid".
- In the cutaway scene with Lily and Marshall in the bathtub, Lily is reading a book titled "Pamela Was Robbed." This is likely referencing director Pamela Fryman's loss in the Outstanding Directing category at the Prime Time Emmy Awards (for the episode "Subway Wars").
- In this episode, Barney claims that he is older and taller than Ted. Ted denies that Barney is taller, but agrees that he's older. In real life, Neil Patrick Harris is a year older than Josh Radnor, and the two men are the same height.
- In the scene where Marshall is going through his Edgar Allen Poe phase, there is a raven figurine on the shelf behind him. This is a clear node to Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven".

This small box contains just 4 frames as compared to a permanent box hive which most commonly holds 5, 8, or 10 frames, with 8 and 10 frames being most common. A typical established colony contains between 20,000-80,000 bees depending on many factors including such things as maturity, time of year, health, availability of food, and size and number of boxes comprising the modular "Langstroh-type" hive.

- When the camera cuts to Ted and Robin's apartment after Barney finds the sex tape, onscreen reads "46 minutes later", which is exactly how much time it takes to get from Marshall and Lily's place in Long Island to Ted and Robin's place. We found this out in Episode 14, called "46 Minutes".
