- Michael Scott (Steve Carell) calls Ryan (BJ Novak) a "Little Man" when he returns to the office. Little Man would be the same nickname that the nazi germans give to BJ Novak's character in Inglorious Basterds which would be released 2 years after this episode.

- The message with binary Dwight sends the computer "Why don't you 0111111011011" does not translate to anything as read. The meaning of the binary message depends on the character encoding that Dwight had in mind. It could not be encoded using 7-bit nor 8-bit patters of a ASCII Table which is the standard for computer encoding. As the code he sends is 13 bits long and is thus not divisible by 7 or 8.
- The binary that Dwight types "011 1111 011 011" doesn't translate to anything as read on screen. However there is a fan theory that sending on how "Dwight" wanted the code to be read. That if you add back the zeros left out due to them not being needed and reverse the order. You get "01100110" and "01101111" which stand for the letters "F" and "O". So Dwight would be telling the computer "Why don't you F O"

Female cats have three distinct colors, male cats only have two. On the very rare occasion that a male cat is born with three distinct colors of fur, he would be sterile and unable to reproduce.
- Michael references his movie "Threat Level Midnight", which is shown in a later episode in season 7.
- The TripAdvisor page for Schrute Farms that Jim and Pam read their review is an actual page on TripAdvisor. Although Schrute Farms is fictitious, fans of the show have added their own fake reviews over the years commenting on the establishment and on Dwight and Mose. There a disclaimer on the page stating that place doesn't really exist but that didn't stop a complaint from one person who wanted to book a room there.

- The telephone number of W.B. Jones Heating and Air, one of the "Five Families" mentioned by Kevin, is (800) 984-3672. If you had called the number you would get a prerecorded message encouraging you to keep your thermostat set at 67 degrees in the wintertime and 76 degrees in the summer to stay comfortable and decrease your carbon footprint. The message concluded with an invitation to wait for the next available customer service representative, but disconnected after about 30 seconds of elevator music. The number no longer works.
- In the scene with the "Five Families", one of the actors, Paul Faust was the only first-time actor. Faust is the cousin of writer Paul Lieberstein, and had been on a tour of the set and talked to many of the writers. He made a good impression and so the character of "Cool Guy Paul" was based on him. The day before they were scheduled to shoot, the show still had not cast anyone for the role, so they called Paul in New York City and had him read the lines into a camera and e-mail to them. In less than an hour, Faust had landed the part and was flown out to Los Angeles.
- Although B.J. Novak wrote the majority of the episode, Jennifer Celotta and Paul Lieberstein were actually the ones that came up with the graveyard scene in the end.
- Originally, Novak wrote for Jim to put Dwight through a "phony management training," but NBC pointed out that it felt like the writers had done it before even though they had not. As a group, the writers tried to think of a new idea for the plot; they considered having Pam move in with Jim, but they thought that first the two should be engaged.
- When Michael asks the office to set him up with one of their friends, Jim jokingly tells Pam that he is going to set up Michael with Pam's mom. Later in the series, Michael does start dating Pam's mom.

- The voice of the woman that Phyllis talks to on the phone about the anti-gravity machine is Amy Ryan (who also plays Holly Flax).
- Angela Kinsey is pregnant in the last few episodes of the fourth season. It is noticeable some of the time, especially in her face but there is always either something blocking her stomach or she is behind a desk or table. The only partial shot on her body was when the Office employee opened the ground floor door to the carnival party at the parking lot.
- This episode was Steve Carell's submission for Emmy consideration.
- In the Season 4 finale, when the office workers are watching the YouTube video of Ryan's arrest, you can see the the video was added on April 16, 2008; giving a clue to when the finale was filmed, and also slightly upsetting continuity (the episode was set in May instead of April).
- This is the 14th and final episode of the fourth season, which was shortened considerably by the Writers' Guild of America strike.

- In the cold open, Jim talks to Dwight's mother on the phone and tells her that he's become married. However, in season 4 episode 1 Fun Run, Dwight tells Angela that Sprinkles can be buried next to his mother, meaning Dwight's mother is actually deceased.
- On Toby's last day Michael Scott states, "I have a feeling that today is one of those days that you remember for the rest of your life." With this being the day that he met his future wife and mother of his children, Holly Flax, I would imagine that his feeling was absolutely spot on.
