Being Bad
S14E02 Episode aired 27 September 2016
- Episode centers around a theft ring which forms as a chance encounter at Saturday Detention in High School a la "The Breakfast Club"
- The "Breakfast Club" consisted of the following stock characters: jock, prom queen, nerd, misfit and the punk. Prom queen even gave the punk her diamond earring.
- The line "You see us as you want to see us" that is said during the investigation is actually a line from The Breakfast Club movie.
- Breakfast Club parallels: the analogue of the Judd Nelson character shows signs of having been burned with cigars and his youth, which parallels a story told by the character in the film and backed up by showing his classmates the scars when they believe he is exaggerating.
- This is the first episode of the entire series without any reference, direct or indirect, to Tony DiNozzo.
- There was a "Breakfast Club" alumnus in the episode, John Kapelos. Devin Sidell, on the other hand has a passing resemblance for Ally Sheedy.
- When being questioned, Victor Castor John Kapelos says he was stuck for eight Saturdays in a row with the victim in high school, and is corrected by the agents that it was seven. He quickly asserts that is was eight. This mirrors The Breakfast Club (1985) where Vernon asserts it's eight weekends after Brian said it was seven.
- The year 2015, marked the thirtieth anniversary of its theater debut.
- There are several movie references by characters which link back to Michael Weatherly's Anthony Dinozzo.
- The five suspects closely resemble the characters from the movie "The Breakfast Club", Palmer almost gives it away, but a glare from Gibbs shuts him up.
- This episode has similar traits to the 80's movie 'The Breakfast Club'. Casting even went so far as to have John Kapelos a.k.a Carl the janitor as a substitute teacher who supervised Saturday detentions.
- Neal Sherwood takes his own life with a flare gun. In the movie "The Breakfast Club" Brian the Nerd got sent to Saturday detention bause he got caught with a flare gun that he was contemplating taking his life with
- Breakfast Club parallels: The Ally Sheedy analogue carries a huge slouch purse full of stuff. She has considerable dandruff, a nod to the famous scene in which the Ally Sheedy character shook her hair to create snow on a winter image. At one point the prom queen character insults her by saying, "Go eat a Pixy Stick"; the Ally Sheedy character in the film dumps the powder out of Pixy Sticks into her sandwich.

- The specific quote from Torres that makes a veiled reference to "That '70s Show" is this: "Maya, I always liked that name. You know, when I was undercover in Wisconsin ... I had a contact named Maya. She could kill you with a nail clipper and a corncob." As mentioned in a previous comment, Wilmer Valderrama played Fez on "That '70s Show" from 1998-2006.
- Agent Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) references being under cover at one point in Wisconsin; Valderrama played Fez on That 70s Show (1998-2006) which took place in Wisconsin.

- The Vietnam Wall where Henry is making the rubbings of his team member's names is likely the same prop used for various episodes of JAG, as you can clearly see Harmon Rabb Sr as one of the names on the wall. Gibbs and the team travel to Val Verde, Paraguay, for their mission. This name may have been selected because Val Verde (California) is located in the Santa Clarita area and was probably used for outdoor scenes in the past.
- Erin Krakow played a character that was at first thought to be the widow of a sailor. On Army Wives (2007) she played the widow of a soldier.
- As Wilmer Valderrama and Jennifer Esposito had both signed one-year contracts, the finale was written with potential exits for both of their characters should they not sign on for another year. This was actually the case for Esposito, who's character Quinn was written out due to issues with her mother. Had Valderrama not renewed his contract, Torres likely would have died in Paraguay.
- Jennifer Esposito's final appearance as Alex Quinn.
