Season 12

Twenty Klicks

1. The coffee mug on Gibbs' table towards the end has the name "Ralph" on it, a tribute to the late Ralph Waite who played Gibbs's father Jackson Gibbs.
2. In some scenes Pauley Perrette's face seem to be puffy. This is because it is a allergic reaction to hair dye she had which nearly killed her.
3. "Twenty klicks" is slang for twenty kilometers. Though the United States is one of the few countries that doesn't use the metric system to measure distance, the military uses it almost exclusively in order to facilitate communication with allied forces around the world.
4. Opening credits were updated for season 12 to include showing at least four screencaps of the new episode (along with one screencap of Gibbs looking at his model boat from season 11). This occurs as the series title is displayed.
5. The working title of the episode was "The Most Dangerous Game", undoubtedly a reference to the classic story by Richard Connell.
6. The rifle Gibbs obtains from the Russian henchman at the helo is a Soviet Dragonov svd. It was designed in the late 50s, but adopted in late 1963 or early 1964; depending on which Soviet propaganda you believe. It is considered a squad support rifle; not a "sniper" rifle as some mistakenly believe. It once had 10,000.00 bounty for those who captured it. It is very rare in the United States, therefore it remains expensive. Though many have turned up in Afghanistan, presumably left over from the failed Soviet invasion.

The San Dominick

1. McGibbs rule no. 70 Keep digging 'til you hit bottom.
2. Due to the length of the first act, the on-screen credits do not roll until the second act, which is uncommon for any TV series. This is the third time this has happened on NCIS (2003).
3. The Naval Vessel used in this show is DDG 79 USS Oscar Austin which is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer (seen in the background when Gibbs boards the San Dominick.
4. Jim Beaver who played Captain Tom O'Rourke in this episode, previously worked with Mark Harmon on Reasonable Doubts (1991).

The Searchers

1. Tony has two fish named Kate and Ziva
2. Caldwell was the last name of Mark Harmon's character on St. Elsewhere (1982) (Dr. Bobby Caldwell).
3. Tyree Brown who plays Zak, one of the boys that find the body was also playing Jabbar Trussell on Parenthood (2010).

Semper Fortis

1. United States Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus makes his second cameo appearance on NCIS (2003) appearing as "Ray" who greets Gibbs in the diner. (Previously appeared in NCIS: Child's Play (2009)).
2. "Semper fortis" is Latin for "always strong", and is the unofficial motto of the United States Navy.
3. When DiNozzo jokingly accuses Bishop of cannibalizing her never-seen husband with fava beans and a Chianti, he is referring to Hannibal Lecter's confession in The Silence of the Lambs (1991).
4. Burt, the name of Abby's beau, is also the name of Abby's farting stuffed hippo

3. All three of the prisoners used to catch the hacker were arrested by the NCIS team within the last 3 years. Ajay Khan was arrested in NCIS: Canary (2013), Kevin Hussein was arrested in NCIS: Twenty Klicks (2014), and Stephanie was arrested in NCIS: Page Not Found (2014).

1. Diane's line when she finds Gibb's and Rebecca on the couch - "Holy 4th of July weenie roast, what the hell am I looking at?" - is the same line Fornell used when he found McGee and Diane on the couch together in NCIS: Devil's Trifecta (2012).
2. During this episode, the team puts together an infographic with information on Gibbs' ex-wives. The graphic has info the team "gathered" on each wife. We Build, We Fight

1. Rocky Carroll's (Leon Vance) directorial debut.
2. This episode makes numerous references to Breaking Bad. Matt Jones had recurring roles in both Breaking Bad (2008) and NCIS (2003). His characters in both series, Badger and NCIS Probationary Agent Ned Dorneget, were mentioned in this episode.
3. Berwyn, Maryland is actually Berwyn Heights, Maryland. It is adjacent to Greenbelt and College Park, Maryland.

Cabin Fever

1. The 3 Carriers in shot when Gibbs heads to the navy yard are the CVN 65 Enterprise, CVN 67 John F Kennedy and the CVN 75 Harry S Truman.
2. The "grenade" fragment that Gibbs shows to Vance actually only has the Russian word for "training" written on it, as in "training grenade" - a dummy used for military training and therefore it couldn't have detonated.

Blast from the Past

1. According to Sean Murray, Tony DiNozzo's quote of the line "In a world weary of wars..." from an unnamed movie was made up by Michael Weatherly.
2. When Abby and McGee are briefing Gibbs on the impostor's work at an IT lab, the music playing quietly in the background is the Knight Rider (1982) theme. Knight Rider was based around a man living under an assumed identity.
3. The house that they go into at around the 30-minute mark appears to have been filmed in the same house as the houses that appear in Season 7 Episode 21 and Season 9 Episode 15.
4. The episode's title NCIS: Blast from the Past (2015) is not only a reference to Gibb's past as an undercover agent, but also a reference to Mark Harmon's past as an actor. We see Harmon once again portraying a doctor, a role that helped start his acting career in the early 80's when he played the part of Dr. Robert Caldwell in St. Elsewhere (1982).

Patience

1. Abby references Gibbs' rule no. 22: Never ever bother Gibbs in interrogation.
2. At the end, the SEAL commander, recognising Gibbs as a Marine, salutes him with "Oorah", a well known U.S. Marines battle cry, rather than the Naval "Hooyah".
3. Some of the SEAL CMDR's medals would be impossible for a man his age. Included on his ribbon rack is the Navy Korea Defense Service medal. Nevermind the fact that SEAL's were not even commissioned until the early 60's. There were however UDT(Underwater Demolition Teams) in Korea.

Troll

The Lost Boys

1. On Abby's written summary of her analysis on Luke Harris's computer, she lists her full name as "Abigail Beethoven Sciuto."
2. Mimi Rogers and Jennifer Taylor have both been on "Two and a half men" at different times. Jennifer Taylor as Charlie's girlfriend, and Mimi Rogers as Walden's mother.
3. At the end of the episode, Gibbs has a vision of NCIS agents who have died in the line of duty. They are, from right to left: Chris Pacci (shot and killed by Amanda Reed/LCDR Hamilton Voss in NCIS: Dead Man Talking (2004)), Jenny Shepard (died of wounds from a gunfight against four unknown assassins in NCIS: Judgment Day (2008)), Ned Dorneget, Kate Todd (shot and killed by rogue Israeli-born Mossad officer and terrorist Ari Haswari in the season 2 finale NCIS: Twilight (2005)), Mike Franks (killed from being stabbed in the chest with a scalpel by Jonas Cobb, the Port to Port killer in NCIS: Swan Song (2011)), and Paula Cassidy (sacrificed her life to stop a suicide bomber in NCIS: Grace Period (2007)).
4. S-mines or "Bouncing Betties" were left all over Eastern Europe as well as other war battlefields such as Libya, North Africa and France. The mines were left behind after WWII and many still remain in those countries as a danger to farmers who would try to grow crops in those fields. They are reusable if carefully extracted from the ground and repinned. The market for a source of such weapons is ripe for those willing to take on the risk of locating and digging them up and repinning. The mines in this episode are not currently being made in Germany, they are reclaimed by black market arms dealers.
5. The show references Peter Pan on several occasions. Giles Matthey(the guy at the cairo hotel) played Peter Pan's grandson, Gideon, in Once Upon a Time

Neverland

1. Mike Franks mentions Gibbs' Rule 36: if you feel like you're being played, you probably are.
2. Gibbs' rule no. 10: never get personally involved on a case.
3. DiNozzo references Gibbs' Rule 45: Clean up the mess that you make.
