My Old Friend's New Friend

S04E01 Episode aired 31 August 2004
  1. Carla returns J.D.'s wedding present, a Sugarhill Gang clock radio. The following morning, J.D. wakes to see tiny versions of the actual group singing to him.
  2. The Dr. Cox rant in this episode is the rant referenced in Season 8 Episode 18 when JD gives Dr. Cox the book of rants.

My Office

  1. JD changes a name on the white board to "Al Coholic" but when see again just a moment later, it instead says "Dr. Assface"

My New Game

  1. At the beginning of the episode the janitor (played by Neil Flynn) asks JD why he's walking funny and he says he was taking a short cut through the quarry and takes of his sneaker and dumps out gravel. Neil Flynn would later go on to play Mike Heck in The Middle where he's a manager at a quarry.
  2. This is the 10th death in the series.

  1. The singer in the karaoke bar is the real singer of the song, 'Blue Eyes'. The song was also featured on the movie Garden State (2004) which was written and directed by Zach Braff.

My Cake

  1. The episode revolves around J.D.'s father's death; it is dedicated to John Ritter who played J.D.'s father, Sam Dorian, on the show. He died the year before the episode was made.
  2. The whiteboard in the break room says "Parking Lot Golf Friday".
  3. Sam Dorian is the third family member to die in the series the first two being Ben Sullivan and Carla's mother.

My Malpractical Decision

  1. Turk changes his cellphone number to 1-916-Call-Turk. Unlike other shows and movies, this number is actually a valid number that most of the times will take your to a voice message telling you the latest info about Scrubs (2001). However, as the phone is placed on the set where Scrubs is being filmed, every now and then, people from the cast or crew answers the phone to have a word with whoever is calling.
  2. The area code of Turk's new number, 916, is that of Folsom, California.
  3. Julianna Margulies, who plays the malpractice lawyer Neena Broderick, previously appeared in ER where she played a nurse. She then went on to play a lawyer again in The Good Wife.
  4. J.D. makes a reference to Superman when he says Mr. Steel's first name is "Man of". The theme song says, "I'm no Superman."

My Unicorn

  1. In addition to real father and son John Bennett Perry and Matthew Perry playing father and son, "Old Murray" is played by Tony Perry, their brother and uncle respectively. (Edited) Matthew is the stepson whom was adopted, there is no biological relation just like the characters, Matthew was 12 when his mother re-married
  2. Matthew Perry's character makes a joke about the TV-series "Friends", in which he played a leading role.
  3. When Murray Matthew Perry is chasing J.D. with his model airplane, it is reminiscent of a scene from North by Northwest (1959)

My Lucky Charm

  1. This episode is dedicated in "Loving Memory to Teddy Ebersol." The 14-year-old Edward "Teddy" Ebersol was killed in a charter plane crash on November 28, 2004. His mother Susan Saint James is the aunt of Christa Miller (Jordan Sullivan). Jordan is Dr Perry Cox's wife and Jack Cox's mother.
  2. J.D. and Turk attempt to goad Billy into naming the different components of the Lucky Charms cereal to prove he is Irish. However, Lucky Charms is an American cereal and is not widely sold in Ireland, outside of shops specializing in foreign foods.
  3. Dr. Kelso is from Monroeville, PA. Monroeville is a real town near the city of Pittsburgh.
  4. When he is describing his tattoo, Billy says that he sneaked onto a plane and thought that he was going to Belgium. Colin Farrell would later star in In Bruges (2008), a film set entirely in Belgium.

My Hypocritical Oath

  1. Kelso says the score was 98-97, Lakers. However, the actual score was 104-97.
  2. Dr. Cox eventually does get to watch the Lakers-Heat game only for Kelso to record over it and reminds him not to mess with his treadmill as well as giving him the score of the game.

My Life in Four Cameras

  1. While normally a single camera show, this episode pays homage to classic sitcoms by adopting a four camera setup. Ironically, it went on to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing.
  2. The episode centers around a fictional former Cheers (1982) writer named "Charles James". The character is named after the actual creators of "Cheers", Glen Charles, Les Charles, and James Burrows.
  3. Was actually filmed in front of a live studio audience.
  4. The four cameras in the title refers to the typical multiple-camera setup in a sitcom setting, where usually four cameras will be set up to capture different angles of a scene at one go.
  5. Sarah Chalke (Elliot Reid) is actually fluent in German (and French).
  6. Kenny, from the cafeteria, is played by American Idol winner Clay Aiken. Kenny wins a talent show by singing.

The quote Dr. Kelso says to Turk and his patient about the worthwhile things in life not coming easy is similar to Theodore Roosevelt who said "Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty... I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well."

    1. JD locks Eliliot's window to stop a messenger monkey from telling Turk he kissed Carla. Zach Braff would later play a messenger monkey in Oz, Great and Powerful.
    2. The hockey jersey Dr. Cox wears in this episode is for the Motor City Mechanics of the UHL. They played from 2004-2006 and had multiple NHL players on their roster during the 2004-2005 lockout including Chris Chelios, a jersey Dr. Cox often wears.

      2. The song "Closer to Spring" is written by and performed by Michael Zambrelli. Numerous sites incorrectly credit the song to a group, "Bang."
      3. James Michael Tyler is the second Friends (1994-2004) regular to guest star. First being Matthew Perry on "My Unicorn" S4 E11. Courteney Cox guess stars in later season.
      4. The name "Mildred W." can be seen at the top of the white board. Mildred W. is the grandmother of writer David Feinberg.
      5. Josh Randall (Jake) co-starred in the series "Ed" with Tom Cavanaugh, who guest stars in Scrubs as J.D.'s brother.
      6. Turk and Carla's couple's therapist is played by James Michael Tyler, who is most known for his role as Gunther on Friends (1994-2004)
      7. Josh Randall, who plays Jake, is ironically best known for his role as a physician who graduated from Johns Hopkins in the TV show "Ed".
