The One After I Do
S08E01 Episode aired 27 September 2001
- This episode was "Dedicated To The People Of New York City" following the attacks on 9/11
- When Monica and Chandler get engaged, Monica finds Rachel and Ross kissing in the hallway and accuses Rachel of stealing her thunder. To get her back, Monica states that when Rachel gets engaged, Monica is going to announce that she is pregnant - thereby stealing Rachel's thunder. However, it is Rachel that announces on Monica's wedding night that she is pregnant.
- Phoebe lies and tells everyone that she's pregnant with James Brolin's child only to be told that he is married to Barbra Streisand. 'Elliot Gould' (who plays Monica and Ross' father, Jack) was married to Barbra Streisand before she subsequently married Brolin.
- When announcing that he had been taking dance lessons and before Chandler says he can't dance because the dance floor is too slippery, you can see that Chandler missteps and slide on the bottom of Monica's wedding dress.
- Spoiler: The final scene in which Rachel discovers she is definitely pregnant was shot after the audience left to keep the suspense.
- In the beginning, Joey hears about Monica's pregnancy. She explains she's not pregnant. Joey replies "Oh, slow swimmers?". In season 9, it is found out that Chandler indeed has low sperm motility and Monica is unable to get pregnant as well. This would appear to be a foreshadowing of a future story arc.

- (Episode #8.3), originally shot before September 11, 2001, Chandler and Monica couldn't get on their flight for their honeymoon because Chandler said the word "bomb" in the airport. After the terrorist attacks on the US, the story was rewritten and re-shot.

- The magna-doodle at the beginning of the show has a picture of The Empire State Building with King Kong hanging off of it.
- When Ross and Rachel are talking at the end of the show the magna-doodle has "I Love New York" written on it. This was filmed right after the 9/11 attacks and the doodle was a way of showing sympathy for the people of New York City.
- The show was rewritten after the 9/11 terrorist attacks because a subplot involved Chandler & Monica being arrested and detained at the airport when Chandler saw a sign saying "Do not joke about having a bomb" and promptly told a horrified security agent "I NEVER joke about having bombs!" The writers and producers unanimously agreed they could not keep this story and had the actors come back to hastily shoot a story where the newlyweds obsess over whether a cool fellow newly-married couple that they met on vacation would agree to meet up with them in NYC.
- One of the episodes that was submitted from the show at the Emmys for outstanding comedy series.
- Ross tells Rachel that she can't raise the baby alone because she can't even eat in a restaurant alone. In season 3, Rachel ate at a restaurant all by herself to prove a point.

- It's extremely unlikely that Ross, a well-educated scientist, wouldn't know about the 97% effectivity in condoms.

Captain Billy Burke (William F Burke Jr) was a NYC Firefighter who lost his life on 11 September 2001 at the World Trade Center.

- When Monica draws a bath for Chandler and says she has a surprise for him. He asks if it's "sex on the balcony" and Monica says "no" and seems like that would never happen. However, in season 2 episode 4, in the opening scenes several secrets are revealed including that Monica had sex with Fun Bobby on the balcony.
- While discussing possible names for the baby, Ross suggests the name Helen which Rachel vetoes. In the second episode of season one, "The One with the Sonogram at the End", Susan suggested the name Helen for Ross and Carol's baby (before finding out that the baby is a boy who they later name Ben) and Ross replies,"Helen Geller? I don't think so."
- When Monica suggests a facial while Chandler is in the bath for the first time, he replies with "I'm gonna need a bigger boat." This may be a subtle salute to Jaws (1975) when Roy Scheider says "You're gonna need a bigger boat" when he realizes how big the shark is.
- This is the third occasion a member of the gang is left out of a group hug on the celebration of a big and significant moment. The other two happened when Phoebe discovers she's pregnant and stays out of the hug for the safety of the baby, the other one when Monica and Chandler got engaged: Ross wasn't included on the celebration because David Schwimmer was actually working in a different project.
