- First time Monica screams her catch phrase, "I KNOW!!!!!"
- The first episode with Ross's name in the title.
- The line in this episode 'you have to stop the Q tip when there's resistance!' is Matthew Perry's favorite line of Chandler's.
- After Monica asks Phoebe to guess what she's thinking, the phone rings for Ross. While Rachel is on the couch, you can clearly see that her name tag on her shirt says "Tease".
- This episode kicks off Season 2 with new opening titles.
- Chandler speaks out lyrics from the song Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do) by Christopher Cross while commenting on Monica's new hairstyle. This song being the theme song of Arthur (1981), a film staring Dudley Moore, the person whose haircut Monica's is accidentally based on.
The One with the Breast Milk
S02E02 Episode aired 28 September 1995
- Emily Procter played an Associate White House Counsel in West Wing followed by Matthew Perry in almost the same role.
- The nametag shirt Rachel is wearing at the coffee house when Monica tells Phoebe they went shopping is the same as the one she wore in previous episode, in a different color. The nametag says "tease".
- Unofficially, this episode is also known as "The one with Hombre Man".
- Emily Proctor ended up starring in CSI Miami as Calleigh Duquesne along with Sofia Milos. Sofia Milos played Aurora, who Chandler dated, in The One With The Butt.
- When lying to Rachel, Monica hypothesises that her credit card has been stolen. This actually happened to her previously in "The One With the Fake Monica" (S1E21).
- When Rachel asks Monica who she went shopping with, Monica first says Judy, which happens to be the same name as her and Ross's mother.
The One Where Heckles Dies
S02E03 Episode aired 5 October 1995
- First appearance of Mr. Treeger.
- When Ross is explaining to Pheobe about evolution, he is clearly using a toy giraffe to demonstrate opposable thumbs. David Schwimmer would later go on to play Melman the Giraffe in the animated comedy movie Madagascar (2005).
- Mr. Heckles lives in apartment No. 8. Monica and Rachel live above Mr. Heckles in apartment No. 20 with Chandler and Joey living directly across the hall in apartment No. 19.
- Even though Mr. Heckles dies in this episode, this isn't the last episode we see him. He reprises his role in Friends: The One with the Flashback (1996).
- When Mr. Heckles comes upstairs to tell Monica and Rachel that they are being loud, he tells them, that their stomping is "disturbing his birds." Rachel then says, "You don't have birds" to which he says, "I could have birds." Later, when the gang is cleaning his apartment after he dies, you can see some bird figurines on the stacked newspaper, next to the door.
The One with Phoebe's Husband

- Matt LeBlanc has actually done soft core porn in The Red Shoe Diaries.
- Having an extra nipple is not as uncommon as people may think. As many as 1 in 15 people may have one, which are rarely fully formed, which means they aren't very noticeable, even on women. They do tend to occur on men more often than on women.
- The first episode with Phoebe's name in the title.
- In this episode Ross and his girlfriend Julie have sex for the first time. Ross states in the beginning of the episode that his ex wife, Carol, was the only person he had been with. Later, in the season when Ross and Rachel eventually date and do make love Ross again states Carol was the only person he had been with before Rachel. And, in an even later seasons 8 or 9 it is revealed that Ross had hooked up with a cleaning lady in college before Carol but she was his first!
- Rachel asks Julie "What's exactly in a Cobb salad?" Jennifer Aniston stated in a 2004 interview, that her and her co-star Courtney Cox had a Cobb salad every day for lunch on set.
The One with Five Steaks and an Eggplant
S02E05 Episode aired 19 October 1995
- According to script, Matt LeBlanc was supposed to grab the phone and say, "Bob here!" when Jade called. But when he jumped for the phone, he missed and fell. The editors chose to go with Chandler instead of Joey answering the phone.
The One with the Baby on the Bus
S02E06 Episode aired 2 November 1995
- Lea Thompson crosses over in her role from Caroline in the City (1995). The same night this episode aired, David Schwimmer appeared as Ross on The Single Guy (1995) and Matthew Perry appeared as Chandler on Caroline in the City (1995) (and also Jonathan Silverman from The Single Guy (1995)).
- This is the first performance of "Smelly Cat".
- The woman who is singing in Central Perk is Chrissie Hynde, singer and guitar player of the band The Pretenders.
- The second and final appearance of Terry, the owner of Central Perk
- Giovanni Ribisi makes an appearance as a guy who accidentally gives a condom to Phoebe, who was playing her guitar on the street. He later returns to play her long-lost brother Frank. Some fans suspect that it may be Frank, but this has not (and likely never will) be authoritatively confirmed.
- Ross says he hopes Ben has a little sister. Later on in the series, Ross has a daughter with Rachel named Emma. So, Ben does eventually get a little sister.
- Joey reveals he has "7 Catholic Sisters".
The One Where Ross Finds Out
S02E07 Episode aired 9 November 1995
- Schwimmer is actually allergic to cats.
- There is an alternate version of this episode where, during the final scene when Ross comes back to the coffee house, Rachel tries to let him in, but she struggles to unlock and open the door, and Ross says "try the bottom {lock}" from outside. It is unknown if this is cut from the syndicated versions on certain channels or why it is sometimes shown both ways.
- This is Ross & Rachel's second kiss. Their first kiss was when they do laundry in season 1.
- Technically this is Ross and Rachel's third kiss. The first wasn't the laundry room, the second was in Rachel's fantasy in her balcony.
The One with the List
S02E08 Episode aired 16 November 1995
- Season 2 is the only season in the entire 10 year run of Friends where the group does not plan or sit down to a Thanksgiving meal together. The holiday is only briefly referred to in The One With The List when Monica is at a job interview and later when she trying to come up with recipes for the 'Mockolate' chocolate.
- Monica claims to be allergic to cat hair, but in the previous episode, 'The One Where Ross Finds Out' she mentions that she once owned a cat. In the episode, "The One With The Cat", Monica is able to pet and be around Phoebe's cat with no apparent allergic reaction.
- In a previous episode, The One Where Heckles Dies, Monica mentions that she's allergic to shellfish.
- Unofficially, also known as "The one with the Mockolate".
- Chandlers laptop is a Compaq Contura 4/25cx.
- Mr. Rastatter, who was reviewing Monica's resume to work with Mockolate, has a degree from Cornell University on his office wall.

The One with Phoebe's Dad

- Since James Michael Tyler (Gunther) was the only actor who knew how to work a cappuccino machine, he became a series regular. He was an actual barista when hired. When he began to appear in more episodes, he quit to work full time on the show.
- Gunther, who was planned to be a silent cast member, has his first line in this episode.
- The only appearance of Phoebe's grandmother.
- Phoebe's grandmother's apartment is Phoebe's apartment later in the series.
The One with Russ
S02E10 Episode aired 4 January 1996
- First use of Phoebe's catch phrase, "Oh, no."
- David Schwimmer plays Russ, yet the character is credited as being played by "Snaro", apparently as a tribute to a friend.
- The first use of Monica's drink "scotch on the rocks with a twist".
- When Ross & Russ are doing the crossword puzzle with Chandler they disagree on whether the correct word is Card Shark (Russ) or Cardsharp(Ross). They are actually both correct terms with Cardsharp predating and giving rise to the term Card Shark.
- This is the first episode that mentions Joey's character on Days of Our Lives, "Dr. Drake Ramoray".
- Vincent Ventresca and Lisa Kudrow also co-starred in Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997)
- At the beginning, on the newspapers the gang is thumbing through for the review of Joey's play is a headline for Mark Messier scoring his 500th NHL goal. This happened on Nov. 7th 1995. The episode aired in January 1996. However, this episode was probably filmed in November, thus the "late" headline.
- In this episode Joey begins his acting job on Days of Our Lives. Jennifer Aniston's real life father, John Aniston, has been starring on the actual Days of Our Lives since 1985, playing the character of Victor Kiriakis.

The One with the Lesbian Wedding
S02E11 Episode aired 18 January 1996
- In one scene, Rachel said if her mother wanted to be like her she should consider copying her hairstyle. Besides the line being a jab at the trend of copying the "Rachel haircut" during the 1990s, nearly 30 years earlier Marlo Thomas (Sandra Green) became famous for a hairstyle that girls were trying to emulate when she starred on That Girl (1966) .
- Costume/Prop Tie-in: When Phoebe first tells the gang about Mrs. Adelman's spirit "coming into her," Phoebe is wearing an ankh around her neck, an Egyptian symbol for eternal life.
- Marlo Thomas (Sandra Green) received an Emmy nomination for "Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series" for her work in this episode.
- Shortly before the episode aired, NBC hired 200 part-time operators to take what they expected would be a flood of phone complaints for portraying a lesbian wedding. They only received eleven calls.
- This is one of the first gay weddings to feature in a tv show.
- Soupy Sales, a comic with a gift for slapstick who attained cult-like popularity in the 1960s with a pie-throwing routine that became his signature. As the star of "The Soupy Sales Show," he performed live on television for 13 years in Detroit, Los Angeles and New York before the program went into syndication in the United States and abroad. The high point of every show came when a sidekick launched a pie into Sales' face. Sales once estimated that he was hit by more than 25,000 pies in his lifetime. The gag became more than hilarious; it evolved into a hip badge of honor. Frank Sinatra was first in a long line of celebrities who clamored for the privilege to be cream-faced, including Tony Curtis, Mickey Rooney, Sammy Davis Jr., Dick Martin and Burt Lancaster.
- At the end of the episode, the gang predicts that Chandler will be the last to get married. However, in actuality, Joey was the last. By the end of the show, Ross had been married three times, Rachel had been married once, Chandler and Monica married each other, and Phoebe married a gay ice dancer, then Mike. Joey was the only Friend who remained single. Matthew Perry is however the only friend who has not been married in real life.
The One After the Superbowl: Part 1
S02E12 Episode aired 28 January 1996
- Brooke Shields won the lead in her own sitcom Suddenly Susan (1996) based on her performance here.
- Director Michael Lembeck won an Emmy for his work on this episode.
- The episode's title is based on the fact it was aired after Super Bowl XXX, where the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- The Zoo Owner, Dean Lipson, is named after a friend of some of the writers.
- In her fan letter to Joey, Erika Ford (Brooke Shields) enclosed 14 of her eyelashes.
- Chris Isaak plays Phoebe's love interest, Rob Donnen, in this episode. Isaak's famous song, Wicked Game, is playing during Ross and Rachel's date in the auditorium later in the season.
The One After the Superbowl: Part 2
S02E13 Episode aired 28 January 1996
- Matthew Perry and Julia Roberts were in a real life relationship at the time of this episode.
- The most watched episode of Friends (1994) in its entire run.
- The other production assistant that Julia Roberts's character is conversing with is her actual sister, Lisa Roberts Gillan.
- The man playing the director whom Joey attempts to impress is real life writer/creator David Crane.
- "Marcel" was played by two female monkeys, named Monkey and Katie. Katie also starred in Outbreak (1995).
- The episode's title is based on the fact it was aired after Super Bowl XXX, where the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- In the window of the record shop, on the movie set, a record by Chris Isaak is seen. Chris Isaak played Rob Donnen in the previous episode.
- Jean-Claude Van Damme mentions that Rachel told him that Monica (Courteney Cox) wanted to have a threesome with him and Drew Barrymore. Later that year, Cox and Barrymore would costar together in Scream (1996).
- When Chandler, Susie, Ross, and Joey were out to dinner, the restaurants name was Marcel's which is the same name as Ross's monkey in this episode and in season 1.
- In the window of the record shop on the movie set, the front cover of Frank Zappa's "Strictly Commercial" album is on display.
The One with the Prom Video
S02E14 Episode aired 1 February 1996
- David Schwimmer's favorite episode.
- The first time Courteney Cox wore her fat suit in "The One With The Prom Video", Matthew Perry walked by her without knowing who she was.
- During the prom video everyone notices that Rachel's nose was different in high school, and she says that she had an operation for a deviated septum. Some time after this Jennifer Aniston would herself get a nose job, which she publicly explained was because she too had a deviated septum.
- Considered by many critics and fans to be the best episode of the series.
- Lobsters are actually serial monogamists.
- During the latter part of the prom video, where Ross hands his dad his keyboard and runs upstairs to get ready to take Rachel to the prom, the next shot clearly shows Ross running in slow motion after he trips.
- When Chandler goes over to the woman who was checking him out she almost falls off of her chair while laughing but then catches herself.
- In this episode, Joey gets his first paycheck and pays Chandler back for everything he has provided for him, including his head shots.
The One Where Ross and Rachel... You Know
S02E15 Episode aired 8 February 1996
- First appearance of Tom Selleck as Monica's older love interest Dr. Richard Burke.
- Phoebe demonstrates her waitressing skills with the phrase "Adam & Eve on a raft and wreck 'em!" In diner lingo that means two scrambled eggs on toast.
- This is the episode in which Joey and Chandler acquire the leather armchairs in which they spend most of the series watching TV.
- At the museum, when Ross lights up stars for Rachel, the song "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak is playing. Isaak previously played Rob Donnen in Friends: The One After the Superbowl: Part 1 (1996).
- When Richard answers the door, Phoebe says it's James Bond. Tom Sellek was considered for the role earlier in his career.
- Monica tells Phoebe that Dr. Richard Burke is "like 20 years older" then her. Later, he says that he is 21 years older than Monica. In real life, Courteney Cox and Tom Selleck are 19 years apart.
- This is the first episode to contain two of the friends' names in the title
- Rachel says she didn't want to wear her glasses on her first date with Ross. She has never worn eyeglasses on the show.
- The set for Richard's office is the same set they used for Barry's orthodontist office in the first season.
- Also SPOILER for future episodes - In this episode Rachel is laughing while goofing around with Ross. It's not the only case when Rachel do strange things during kissing - in the last season, when Rachel and Joey will be together, she will slap Joey's hand while he put it on her leg.
- Ross would fantasize about the planetarium as the place where he would propose to Rachel. This is revealed in "The One In Massapequa" (S8E18).
The One Where Joey Moves Out
S02E16 Episode aired 15 February 1996
- The first episode with Joey's name in the title.
- Rachel gets a tattoo on her hip in this episode and it is never mentioned again.
- At Jack's birthday party he has a signed Harmon Killebrew baseball bat. Killebrew played for the Minnesota Twins who are at times called "The Twinkes" the same nickname unknowingly given to Monica for dating the much older Richard.
- Jack says: "It looks like a scene from Cocoon", Courteney Cox appeared in Cocoon: The Return (1988), the sequel of Cocoon (1985).
- While Phoebe picks out which lily to get tattooed she mentions Foghorn Leghorn. Foghorn Leghorn is the name of a Warner Brothers cartoon rooster.
- Rachel apart from Chandler and Joey, is the one of the characters who never lived alone throughout the series. In Season 2 Episode 16, Joey Moves out of Chandlers Apartment until the end in Episode 19.
- Judy asks Richard if his son was single to go out with Monica. After Monica and Richard break up, she ends up dating him.
The One Where Eddie Moves In
S02E17 Episode aired 22 February 1996
- First appearance of Adam Goldberg as Eddie, who would also appear in the spin-off series Joey (2004) as Jimmy.
- In the credits at the beginning of the "Smelly Cat" music video, the producers of the video is listed aw "BKC Records". "BKC" stand for the producers of the show Bright, Kauffman, and Crane.
- Chandler being obsessed with Yasmin Bleeth on Baywatch is a reference to the fact Matthew Perry was dating her at around this time
- DeeDee Rescher, who played the Record Producer in this episode, later appeared in Lisa Kudrow's HBO series The Comeback (2005) as Donna Franklin in the episode The Comeback: Valerie Relaxes in Palm Springs (2005).
The One Where Dr. Ramoray Dies
S02E18 Episode aired 21 March 1996
- When Chandler puts his hand on Eddie's arm you can clearly see part of Matthew Perry's middle finger is missing. He lost it when it was accidentally shut in a door when he was 3-years old.
- Ross asks Richard if he was in Vietnam. Tom Selleck, who plays Richard, also played Thomas Magnum (Magnum PI), who was a Vietnam veteran (Navy SEAL).
- Tom Selleck served in the 160th Infantry of the California Army National Guard during the Vietnam era (1967 - 1973), however, was never deployed to Vietnam.
- James E. Reilly, the writer who wrote Joey's character out after he read in Soap Opera Digest that Joey wrote most of his own lines, was a writer for Day of Our Lives, as well as General Hospital and The Young and the Restless. He was the head writer in the majority of the Days of Our Lives episodes from 1992 to 2006. Reilly died October 12, 2008 at age 60 from complications after cardiac surgery.
- When Dr. Ramoray falls down the elevator shaft, his 6 second fall means he fell approximately 580 feet before hitting the bottom, or about a 50 story hospital.
- During Ross and Richard's argument on who is right about Deer Hunter and Coming Home, Richard is correct. Deer Hunter was John Savage losing his legs, and Coming Home was Jon Voight as paralyzed.
The One Where Eddie Won't Go

- The "Wind Goddesses" book Rachel finds inspiring is a parody of mystical self-help books such as Clarissa Pinkola Estes' "Women who Run with the Wolves".
- The second episode Gunther has spoken lines.

The One Where Old Yeller Dies
S02E20 Episode aired 4 April 1996
- According to the gag reels on the DVD, the cast had to retake the scene where Ross and Ben first come into the coffee house to see Rachel several times because the boy who played Ben actually began saying "Dada" when prompted by David Schwimmer.
- This title references the Disney movie Old Yeller (1957).
- When Ross tells Rachel he planned their future and had kids names planned out, he said Emily. He would later marry a British woman named Emily. In addition, Ross and Rachel have a daughter named Emma, which can be a diminutive of Emily.
The One with the Bullies
S02E21 Episode aired 25 April 1996
- Giovanni Ribisi's first appearance as Phoebe's half-brother, Frank. Although he did make an appearance as a guy who accidentily drops a condom in Phoebe's guitar case in an earlier episode.
- Monica says she buys CHP stocks because she had a crush on Erik Estrada, a reference to the show CHiPs (1977). Nicky Katt, who plays one of the bullies, had one of his first on air appearences on "CHiPs".
- Phoebe first learns she has a brother in this episode, but her twin sister, Ursula, has previously mentioned having a brother on Mad About You: Pandora's Box (1994)
- In this episode, Monica becomes obsessed with the Stock Market and eventually loses all of her money in it. Guest stars Nicky Katt (Bully #2) and Giovanni Ribisi (Frank Jr.) also starred together in Boiler Room (2000), in which they are Stock Brokers who work for a corrupt company that cheat people out of their money in the Stock Market.
The One with the Two Parties
S02E22 Episode aired 2 May 1996
- For Rachel's birthday party all of the main cast wear green in this episode: Monica and Rachel wear green dresses, Phoebe wears a half green/pink blouse and pink slacks, Chandler and Joey wear green shirts, and Ross wears a green tie. Rachel's mom wears a hot pink satin jacket and Rachel's dad wears a red and white nautical outfit.
- When Monica is going over the guest list for Rachel's party, she mentions a woman named Emma, which is the name that Ross and Rachel would name their baby in season 8.
- In an earlier episode (S1E11-TOW Mrs. Bing), Joey says to Ross that you should never kiss your friend's mom but sisters and hot aunts are okay. But he kisses Rachel's mother in this one.
The One with the Chicken Pox
S02E23 Episode aired 9 May 1996
- In this episode, Phoebe says she met Ryan when she was playing guitar at the park and he threw in salt water taffy because he didn't have any change. However, in season 8 episode 15, "The One with the Birthing Video", Phoebe tells Ross she's never had salt water taffy before because her mother, "Was too busy planning her suicide to provide saltwater treats".
- "Ryan" (Charlie Sheen) is supposed to be an officer on a submarine; however, he is not wearing dolphins above his medals. Dolphins are worn by all qualified submariners, both enlisted men and officers.
- The rank insignia on Ryan's collar indicate that he is a Navy Lieutenant Commander.
- Guest appearance of Charlie Sheen as Phoebe's love interest, Ryan.
- The military awards on Ryan's uniform are not in the proper order of precedence. An example being the blue and yellow ribbon on the lower right corner of his awards rack. This is the navy distinguished Service medal and is the highest award on his uniform, but is placed last.
The One with Barry and Mindy's Wedding
S02E24 Episode aired 16 May 1996
- In this episode, Mindy is played by Jana Marie Hupp. Previously, Mindy was played by Jennifer Grey in Friends: The One with the Evil Orthodontist (1995).
- Monica and Richard attend Barry and Mindy's wedding yet there is no evidence to suggest that Barry or Mindy know Monica or Richard.
- The singer at the wedding reception is the same singer from Chandler and Monica's wedding.
