Don Juan in Hell: Part 1

S09E01 Episode aired 25 September 2001
  1. This extra long season premiere was dedicated to David Angell and his wife Lynn, who were killed on American Airlines Flight 11 when it crashed through the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 just a few weeks earlier. Angell was the creator and executive producer of the series.
  2. The title Don Juan in Hell refers to a play within a play performed in Man and Superman by George Bernard Shaw written in 1903.

  1. A similar plot can be found in "Jake's Women," a 1996 TV movie in which a writer Alan Alda imagines all the women in his past talking to him.

The First Temptation of Daphne

  1. Sherilyn Fenn originally appeared in this episode but wasn't available when they had to re-shoot some scenes, due to scheduling conflicts. She was eventually replaced by Michelle Stafford.
  2. In an odd coincidence, Martin brings home a gecko to consume the chirping cricket. Kelsey Grammar would be the Geico gecko's original voice, six years later.

  1. In the flashback scenes, Niles wears the same striped button-down shirt that he wore in nearly every episode of seasons 1, 2, and 3 of the series.

Love Stinks

  1. Jeff Perry (Cyrus Beene in Scandal) portrays the father of one of the other National Spelling Bee participants in the "War of the Words" episode. Bellamy Young (Mellie Grant in Scandal) was featured in the "Three Blind Dates" episode (just prior to "War of the Words") as the owner of a book store and prospective love interest for Frasier. Tony Goldwyn (Fitzgerald Grant in Scandal) portrays a (garbage man) love interest for Roz in the episode "Love Stinks".

Room Full of Heroes

S09E06 Episode aired 30 October 2001
  1. "Room Full of Heroes" (Season 9 Ep.6) is the first time we see the lobby of the Elliott Bay Towers.
  2. Throughout the series, Roz's daughter, Alice, is in 10 episodes. In 9 of them, she's played by Ashley Thomas. This is the only one in which she is played by a different child. (It is quite obvious, as she looks completely different than the week before.)
  3. This is the first episode in which David Angell's name has been removed from the Executive Producer's list in the end credits. Most shows begin production in April or May of each year and his involvement in the first five episodes is appropriately credited.

Bla-Z-Boy

S09E07 Episode aired 6 November 2001
  1. In the opening scene Niles is playing a Shubert piece on the Piano. This is the same piece used in the intro for the NBC comedy Wings (1990). Wings shared several staff members and a handful of cast members with Frasier over the years including David Angell. This was a tribute to David Angell who had died 2 months before in the 9/11 terrorist attacks when his plane crashed into the North Tower.
  2. It won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Multi-Camera Sound Mixing for a Series or Special.
  3. The title is a parody of La-Z-Boy Inc., a furniture manufacturer from Monroe, Michigan whose fame came from the manufacture of recliners starting in 1929. Also Martin Crane's favorite place to sit is his recliner that resembles a La-Z-Boy.
  4. Frasier says the carpet is Berber, named after Mersad Berber. As well as designing carpets, he designed forts, mixing salt with sand.
  5. When Daphne sits down at the table to play the practice pad, the keyboard is upside down when she plays it.

The Two Hundredth

S09E08 Episode aired 13 November 2001
  1. Per the title, as done with the 100th show, the 200th show celebrates Doctor Frasier Crane's 2000th radio call-in show.
  2. The cassette that Frasier adds to cabinet is the 840th tape in that cabinet.
  3. This episode features two guest appearances by actors from the hit NBC drama The West Wing (1999); Adam Arkin and Allison Janney. Arkin played a psychiatrist on The West Wing.

Sharing Kirby

S09E09 Episode aired 20 November 2001
  1. Much like Kirby's hair is a nod to Sideshow Bob, The Simpsons character voiced by Kelsey Grammer, the hair of Niles' new library assistant in the closing scene is a nod to Bob's brother Cecil, voiced by David Hyde Pierce.
  2. Opening scene, intern applicant refers to Dr Crane as a radio psychologist when he is in fact a radio psychiatrist.

Junior Agent

S09E10 Episode aired 27 November 2001
  1. Frasier makes the comment that Portia is Bebe's "flying monkey". In reality, Kristin Chenoweth played Glinda in the Broadway production of "Wicked", whose story serves as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz (1939).

Bully for Martin

S09E11 Episode aired 11 December 2001
  1. The song Niles plays at the piano is the theme for Wings, also created by Mr. Angell who died in the Sept 11 attack.
  2. M. Emmet Walsh and Robert Picardo both also guest starred on Home Improvement, although not in the same episode.

Mother Load: Part 1

S09E12 Episode aired 8 January 2002
  1. It won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series - Anthony LaPaglia.
  2. When Niles explains to Daphne the clothes he's planning on keeping at Frasier's, his 'clothes for any eventuality' the categories are, 'formal, semi-formal, dishabille, wet weather, cold weather, cloudy.' The definition of 'dishabille' is, the state of being only partly or scantily clothed.
  3. Per the title, the term is from the "mother lode" which is a principal vein of gold or silver ore.
  4. The license number displayed on Frasier's BMW is 330WPT.

Mother Load: Part 2

  1. The title is from an American game show that has been on for over 25 years and features competition between contestants to solve hangman type word puzzles.

Three Blind Dates

  2. When Frasier points to the skull to show it has been fractured, he refers to the portion as the temporal bone. However, he's actually pointing to the frontal bone.

    1. This episode was part of NBC's 75th Anniversary celebration, in which actors from previous NBC shows guest starred in current ones.
    2. One of the guests at Cliff Clavin's retirement party appears to be director James Burrows, who directed 32 episodes of "Frasier" and 237 episodes of "Cheers."
    3. Marks the exact 20 year period since Cheers (1982) began back in 1982.
    4. Walter Twitchell is wearing the uniform that he got Cliff Clavin to wear as a prank in Cheers: A Diminished Rebecca with a Suspended Cliff (1992).
    5. This episode originally aired exactly one week before the 15-year-anniversary of the episode of Cheers (1982) where grandfather Sam Malone (during a flash-forward sequence) asks Cliff Clavin when he's going to retire.
    6. Cliff's mom got on the wrong plane and ended up in Bosnia instead of Boston. In Frasier: The Show Where Woody Shows Up (1999) Cliff's mail order bride left him because she supposedly became homesick for her native Bosnia.

    1. The title is a pun on the phrase "Frasier has Spoken" but it is also because Frasier is broadcasting in this episode from Spokane, replacing a beloved, local radio host, while keeping his own Seattle-based show.

    The Guilt Trippers

    1. Brian Cox and Kelsey Grammer both appeared in X-Men movies as Striker and Beast respectively
    2. Frasier and Roz talk about wanting to see a Duck Boat in Wisconsin, but when this episode aired in 2002, a similar attraction "Ride the Ducks of Seattle" had been open in Seattle for 5 years.
