The Good Son
S01E01 Episode aired 16 September 1993
- In the pilot episode, Frasier and Martin have a fight over Frasier just wanting to hear "thank you" from Martin for allowing him to move in. Before John Mahoney (Martin) hugs Kelsey Grammer goodbye in the finale, his line is "Thank you, Frasier."
- Peri Gilpin and John Mahoney also appeared during the final season of Cheers (1982). Gilpin played a reporter and Mahoney played a jingle writer.
- Jane Leeves's good friend, Valerie Bertinelli, was in the studio audience and her laughter can be heard throughout the episode.
- Roz's story about the suicide of Lupe Velez is factually incorrect. Lupe Velez died of self-induced Seconal poisoning, but was found lying in bed, not on her bathroom floor as Roz claims.
- First reference to Cheers (1982) as Frasier states he did not like the way his social life was nothing more than hanging out at the same bar every night.
- Griffin Dunne and Linda Hamilton would be guest callers here, and would later return in the series, he in "The Friend" and she in "Odd Man Out".
- It won 2 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series.
- The title of this episode is also the title of a thriller movie starring Macaulay Culkin who was not only one of the celebrity call-ins on Frasier's radio show, but also played both Ted Danson and George Wendt's son in separate projects. Ted and Macaulay starred in the family comedy Getting Even with Dad (1994) and George and Macaulay appeared in the music video Michael Jackson: Black or White (1991).
Space Quest
S01E02 Episode aired 23 September 1993
- The cue card "The best laid plans..." was from poet Robert Burns' Of Mice and Men. The year before in The Simpsons (1989) episode Black Widower, Sideshow Bob who is voiced by Kelsey Grammer, misquoted that same line.
- In Bulldog's first appearance, he barges in to use Frasier's radio broadcast booth saying the studio he broadcasts from (studio C) lost transmitter lmk power. In future episodes he's always broadcasting from Frasier's booth without explanation.
- First appearance of "Bulldog" Briscoe.
- In future episodes Daphne is seen in-house acting as Martin's physical therapist, but in this episode she brings Martin back to the house explaining to Frasier they had come back from a physical therapy session.
- Wizard of Oz reference, "I'll get him for this and his little dog too",,,
- When Eddie is on the chair staring at Frasier when he's reading the neuwspaper, and Martin is coming out of the kitchen, you can briefly see the dog's trainer's hand in the upper right hand of the screen.
Dinner at Eight
S01E03 Episode aired 30 September 1993
- Patti LuPone, who voices one of the callers, attended Julliard with Kelsey Grammer (although they were in a different class).
- Despite having a relationship that spans the entire eleven years of the show, Daphne and Niles don't meet until this, the third episode.
- Frasier is dressed to go to dinner at an upscale restaurant with Martin and Niles. Daphne, entering the living room where Frasier is waiting, comments, "Well, aren't you a bobby dazzler?" As Daphne has just moved into Frasier's apartment, Fraiser replies, "I'll go out on a limb and take that as a compliment," suggesting he and Daphne are still getting to know each other. However, Frasier comments repeatedly throughout the series that he is an Anglophile and has a degree from Oxford University. It seems Frasier would be familiar with British colloquialisms & would understand what Daphne meant by her comment about his dinner attire.
- Patti LuPone 'calls in' as Pam, a woman having trouble with her in-laws in this episode. In season 5 episode 16 "Beware of Greeks" she played Aunt Zora, the overbearing sister-in-law of Martin Crane.
- When Daphne is introduced to Niles she mistakenly calls him "Miles" a couple times before she hears the correct pronunciation. Actress Jane Leeves who plays Daphne formerly played Audrey Cohen on Murphy Brown where her boyfriend was the producer-character Miles Silverberg. Thus, it sounds very familiar to hear her addressing "Miles" with her English accent.
- The title is from the movie Dinner at Eight (1933). The play opened on Broadway in New York City, New York, USA on 22 October 1932 and closed in May 1933 after 232 performances.
I Hate Frasier Crane

- Kelsey Grammer and Joe Mantegna both play long-running recurring characters on The Simpsons (1989). Grammer plays Sideshow Bob, Bart's psychotic archenemy, and Mantegna plays resident Springfield mob boss Fat Tony. As an amusing in-joke to "Frasier", David Hyde Pierce and John Mahoney have also appeared on the show as Cecil and Bob Terwilliger, Sr. - Sideshow Bob's brother and father, respectively.
Here's Looking at You

- When Frasier asks Roz Doyle what her mother does, Roz replies that her mother is the attorney general of Wisconsin. In 1993, Wisconsin's attorney general was in fact James E. Doyle.
- The episode's title is a quote from Casablanca (1942).
- In Frasier: Here's Looking at You (1993), Frasier calls Martin "Daddy" when they bump heads to look through the telescope at a man apparently wiping up blood in another building.
The Crucible

- The title references Arthur Miller's play of the same title. The original Broadway production opened at the Martin Beck Theater on January 22, 1953, ran for 197 performances and won the 1953 Tony Award for the Best Play.
Call Me Irresponsible

- That's legendary guitar player Eddie Van Halen at the beginning of the show saying, "hello, hello can you here me".
- The title is from the song "Call Me Irresponsible" composed by Jimmy Van Heusen, with lyrics by Sammy Cahn and was made popular by Frank Sinatra.

- JoBeth Williams is the guest caller here, and would later appear in the next season episode Adventures in Paradise.
- In "Cheers" (1982) {Send in the Crane (#7.9)}_ Frasier attends a children's party in Woody's place wherein he wears quick release suspenders. Unfortunately, Woody forgot to give him the oversized polka dot boxers. In this episode, Niles mentions he is wearing quick release suspenders and oversized boxers.

- The caller with the boring voice is Henry Mancini, whose "Moon River" is played just after he calls.
- Fraiser's first caller, the 13 year old who has trouble at school and belittles his advice, is Elijah Wood
- Piper Laurie was a guest caller here, and would later return on a guest spot in, "Dr. Nora"
Can't Buy Me Love

- The title is from the Beatles' song of the same name composed by Paul McCartney and released in 1964.
- Frasier mentions that he lives on the Counterbalance. This is a very steep section of Queen Anne Avenue North on which cable cars operated on a counterbalance system between 1901 and 1940.
- Revisits the theme of a celebrity bachelor auction originally employed in Cheers: Bidding on the Boys (1987). Several behind-the-scenes people were involved in creating both episodes, particularly James Burrows and David Angell.
You Can't Tell a Crook by His Cover

- Actually, it should have been easy for Frasier to decide which of Martin's poker guests isn't a police officer, because that person is wearing a beard. The Seattle Police Department, like most US law enforcement agencies, doesn't allow its officers to grow beards.
- The title is from the proverb "You can't judge a book by its cover."

A Mid-Winter Night's Dream

- After Maris kicks Niles out, he shows up at Frasier's wearing a pirate outfit. The shirt is the same "Puffy Shirt" that Jerry Seinfeld wore in an episode of 'Seinfeld'.
- Niles states that Maris is in Arizona because she had to fly to her favorite spa. In a previous episode, Niles stated Maris was on a train to Chicago because she does not fly anymore after her harrowing experience of being bumped from first class.
- The episode's title references William Shakespeare's play "Midsummer Night's Dream".
And the Whimper Is...
S01E18 Episode aired 17 February 1994
- The title is based on the phrase "And the winner is..." which was made famous by presenters at the Academy Awards. The term became considered too competitive, and was changed to "And the Oscar goes to..". However in 2010, organizers said they had a "naughty treat" for Oscar fans, and the original term returned for that show.
Give Him the Chair!

- The title refers to someone's plea for the execution of a convicted felon when the chief form of execution was the electric chair, which was used through most of the twentieth century.
Fortysomething

- The Caller Rachel Is Voiced By Reba McEntire.
- When Carrie (Sara Melson ) is hit on by the overtly macho "Bulldog" Briscoe (Dan Butler ), she rejects him and after he leaves the room, she asks Frasier if "Bulldog" is gay, which is ironic because the actor Dan Butler is gay.
- The main theme of this episode revolves around Frasier, then 41, pondering upon his attraction for a 22 year old girl. He is concerned about the large age difference between them. In February 2011, Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) married Kayte Walsh who is 26 years younger than him.
Travels with Martin

- John Mahoney's favorite episode.
- During the beggining of the road trip as Frasier is driving, Martin instructs him to get over a lane for the upcomming exit. However, if you watch the backwindow you can see they are on a one lane road.
Author, Author
S01E22 Episode aired 5 May 1994
- During this episode as Martin is settling an argument between Frasier and Niles he says that he never had a brother. However later in season 5 "beware of Greeks" Martin's brother makes an appearance as Walt Crane.
Frasier Crane's Day Off

- Not the first mention, but the first appearance of Gil Chesterton.
- The first time Frasier's bedroom is shown.
- The dessert Gil recommends to caller Louis, the schwarzwälderkirschtorte, is German Black Forest cake.
- The episode title (Frasier Crane's Day Off) is a play on the 1986 film Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Unlike Bueller, who feigns illness to skip school, Frasier is really sick in this episode and prefers to not skip work.
My Coffee with Niles
S01E24 Episode aired 19 May 1994
- First episode where Frasier directly asks Niles if he is in love with Daphne. It is obvious he is.
- Fraiser and Niles joke about Niles potentially being a closeted gay man. In real life David Hyde Pierce is openly gay.
- In the beginning of the episode, Frasier states that it has been a year since he moved into Seattle. Niles says "it's seems like yesterday dad moved in with you", which insinuates that Martin (dad) moved in the same time Frasier moved to Seattle. However according to the pilot episode (very 1st episode), Martin moved in six months after Frasier had settled in Seattle.
- The episode title is a reference to the 1981 film "My Dinner With Andre," which consists almost entirely of two men conversing in a restaurant.
